Kyle's Playcalling

I have seen a lot of messages back and forth about Baby Shanahan's playcalling. Well, I think this latest quote sums up Kyle's mantra:

“I’m confident in both of our quarterbacks, I like both of our quarterbacks and think we can win with both of them,” he said. “I think they’re similar. There are obviously some things one guy does better than the other and vice versa … but I don’t change.”

Okay people, he doesn't change! No matter who we put in at QB, RB, OL, WR --- Kyle will not change!

I mean... What is he supposed to say? I agree he doesn't focus on the run as much as he should but of course he is going to stick to his plan.

As long as Beck doesn't turn the ball over by throwing boneheaded INTs, I don't see what is wrong with Kyle Shanahan saying he won't change his offensive playcalling. I just wish we would go back to what we did against the Rams in terms of pounding the football with the run game, but I digress.

OK, that is just a bunch of crap!

Would Kyle have called that QB drawl with Rec in there? No frakin way!

Where were all of those bootlegs that we saw during preseason? I guarantee we'll see them this weekend.

With that said, there are things that Kyle feels he needs to do in order for his offense to work and I think Rex was missing on a, lot of them or simply couldn't run them.

Now I'm sure there are things that Rex could do that JB isn't good at.

I know Kyle is a an easy target for some people that are obsessed with blaming the team's talent short falls on play calling.

The Rams run defense is epiccally bad this year. Carolina isn't very good against the run, but the Rams are on a hole other level of bad! There are plenty of College teams that might have better run defenses.

I'm sure of we could play the Rams every week, Kyle would call a lot of run plays.

I can't help but wonder what results the playcalling might have achieved had Rex been able to move around and posed a threat to pull it down and take off. You rarely get to see the whole field on broadcasts, so its hard to know what has or hasn't been there for the taking. I thought Beck should have gotten the nod all along, I hope he proves me right. Until we pose a threat downfield we will have a hard time running. Beck didn't underthrow his deep shot, and that's a great improvement in my book.

A good coach changes to suit his players.

Taking this out of context much? At least post all of the relevant quotes...
“You always want to put guys in the situation to make them most successful,” Shanahan added. “I think there are things that both guys do well. … It always changes a little...based on game-planning. But everything’s built into the offense. You don’t have to make the change from week to week. We didn’t have to make a big change in the fourth quarter when we put him in, we just expected that he could make the plays when he was in.”

Trivia

This year who fumbled the ball in the fourth quarter with a minute left against the Cowgirls to lose the game?

Also this year who threw for a whopping four INTs against the Eagles?

Hint, the answer to the above questions equals the reason for the Redskins first two losses.

he alone is our turnover problem
without putting drive together there is no offensive flow to our O

Play calling is not the issue, it's the personel and execution.

Last year, defensively people whined about the play calling. What did they do? They got better people. Now we're the #1 defense in the NFC no matter what the whiners say. We're #1. Last year we were 2nd to last...

Kyle has proven his worth this the Texans. But look at what happened to them last week and the previous week without Andre Johnson. Matt Schaub looks like garbage without that guy. So until they're able to address the offense, it's going to be bumpy.

This is only the second year, what happened to stability and all that other stuff you guys yearned for? Now people want to toss it out the window. I'll tell you who's more detrimental to this franchise than anyone else, the fans. Dan Snyder is a fan too and he's the worst thing that's happened to this franchise. At least he learned his lesson....

You can't blame Kyle for calling a play and the offense (i.e. Grossman) not being able to pull it off effectively. But you can blame him when he continues to call passing plays when we are not moving the ball at all, especially with Grossman taking the snaps. Hopefully Beck will do 10x better.

Mrs Shanahan? Is that you?

Look... Grossman is not capable of scaring teams... yet, Shanahan dropped the run in the first quarter against Philly. I fear that the "I don't change" quote is reflective of stubborn arrogance... I hope not... and I hope that we find that Beck is much better suited to Kyle's programming... but the bottom line is, a good coach finds a way to take advantage of the strength of his talent, and hide the weaknesses.

Now, I freely admit that I don't have the full context of that quote... but that doesn't sound like the tone of an adaptive coach.
