Inadequate equipment...

Am I the only person was downright infuriated that there wasn't an apparent cleat swap for the players?
Helu, Hightower, D-Hall were slipping left and right. Especially our RB's, because they like to plant and make that initial cut. The running game was abysmal last night and that did not help.

All teams in the NFL should play on natural grass.

That's just no realistic. I want to know if and if not, why longer cleats weren't given to the players...

Looked like it got slightly better second half CLL, maybe half time they did change them?
I was wondering the same thing though, like why didn't they try to do cuts and stuff in pregame warmups to get a feel for the field? That way they could've changed before the start of the game.

I was also getting exceptionally annoyed at the inability of the players to keep their footing and make cuts.

Longer cleats would have done nothing for you on field turf.

I did find this information that the Cowboys stadium has three different surfaces they can put down.

I think last night highlights that the Redskins need to have an astroturf training field to practice on when going against turf teams or when it rains and they can't practice outdoors.

It shouldn't even come to a swap out.
If every time you visit turf you go slip sliding away, you either need to remember to wear the right shoes to begin with, or you need to have a comparable surface to prepare on. A loud crowd is homefield advantage enough. Keep notes. Remember what style cleats worked last time you were here. 3 or 4 blown plays can make a huge difference. Personally, I'd put the equipment staff on notice.

I did not see one Dallas Cowboy slipping on the turf. Did anyone see a Cowboy slipping? They knew something about that turf that we didn't.

There shouldn't be any excuse for them this week since OJ and Carriker both have played a tuon of games there.

Shanahan: "Equipment manager... my office... now." Who knows how much yardage and momentum that cost in the first half. Clearly, they made a correction at the half... but, come on, man...

I believe the issue was that the roof was supposed to be closed to keep the stadium comfortable but about 20 mins b4 kickoff, they opened the roof. So who knows.

Yet somehow had no effect on the Cowboys?
Come on, man

IMO, the inadequate equipment is secondary to the inadequate playcalling.
Kyle needs to understand that he's not playing Madden '12.
I mean, are we REALLY pinning lack of performance on the EQUIPMENT GUY??

A one cut offense is totally dependent upon the cut. If you are wearing skates, it is a problem. A corner trying to follow a pattern slips. The Redskins were at a huge disadvantage because of it in the first half. The playcalling outside of the Redzone was fine. The play calling in the Redzone remains shakey... but opportunities were lost because of footing as well...
The equipment guy gets to take his lumps, too.

Listen, having played in college, cleats were never an issue, and if they were, we wouldn't wait until the half to make adjustments. Further, you are responsable for the cleats you wear. Coaches will advise which ones you should wear based on proven research on the particular field they're playing on, but ultimately, it's on the player. You bring two or three pairs to the game, a couple molded cleats and a pair of screw in's (1/2 inch maximum is optimal for field turf). You would make a swap for better grip on the sideline during the game. In grass, you would switch out the spikes. Field turf, they're tearing off the tape, changing pairs and retaping. The process takes the equiptment manager, oh, at MOST, 3 minutes. This is actually laughable that this is a topic. What do you think they're doing before the game? Picking their nose and watching people fill up the seats? No, they are taking snaps, warming up, taking handoffs, cutting, etc. If it's a problem, they would make a change before the game and if conditions change, they're making changes on the fly. Come on man

You don't think that might have been an intentional act by the Cowgirls trying to gain a compuserve advantage.
Maybe, just maybe, they played a game before in their own stadium where they opened the roof just before kickoff and realized that it made the field slick. Since, they had this past experience it was easy for them to plan for the proper shoe.
They opened they toys knowing they would have the right shoe and that the Skins would have footing problems for a while.

And this is why it's a topic. They didn't make the changes on the fly, they waited until half time. Helu, Tim and Hall slipped multiple times through the 1st two quarters. Whether or not you played collegiate ball doesn't negate the fact that they didn't make the changes that needed to be made quickly. You said that it's up to the players, well as a coach if ur players aren't doing the right things, you take them out the game. As the coach, you call the timeout and tell that person to get their equipment together before they miss out on an opportunity.

First off, playing in college is only relevant because it gives me an insight into what happens during the course of a game. I have first hand experience into this matter. Secondly, you are acting like they waited until halftime to make changes and that's speculative at best. Experience tells me that if the cleats were an issue, there would have been wholesale changes to their cleats BEFORE the game, or on the sidelines during the game, and to be honest, unless you were AT the game, you probably don't know if that happened on the sideline or not. How do you know if they changed spikes at halftime, or at any other time. Fact is YOU DON'T. Thirdly, this thread is about someone suggesting the players waited until halftime to change their spikes, as if they were in the locker room and helped retape the players. So, unless you were a fly on the wall in the locker room at half, or you heard one of the players speaking about it, or you WERE the equipment manager in the locker room at half and you helped replace the shoes, you have no business discussing something you have no idea about. THAT'S what's laughable. Until I hear one of the players stating that's what happened, it is far fetched to think that's what actually happened...based on my in game experience

Sorry Chief but college aint the big leagues doode. The players aren't responsible for a dang thing that's why the staff is so much larger then at the U. Then put on what ever is provided... If changes need to be made the staff needs to step up. Its possible the "right" cleats weren't on the field or the stadium for that matter. W the roof closed whod expect turf to be any different from last time? I don't know what happened but it is a good topic and food for thought. I KNOW Jerry boag of bones would do ANYTHING to beat us and not go 1-2. Pay off refs spike our Gatorade and yes mess w the field conditions. Valid topic to discuss I think. What's laughable OS skins fans bickering like girls... If you disagree w the thread whyd you post? Multiple posts? I'm not hating on ya love your avatar pic it is seriously awesome. Do I need to pay or something to have one?

I was actually hoping someone would point that out, because that's even more to my point. HS is HS and we all knew to switch up spikes depending on the surface. College is college, and it was part of game planning pre and during the game to cover shoes. We knew ahead of time what cleats worked on the surface at hand, even broke it down by position. We also brought two other sets just in case surfaces changed during the game. Pro is pro and is probably OVER the top with how much they put into equiptment preperation, so I HIGHLY doubt this was not covered at length by staff during the week, pregame, during the game and certainly questioned after each slip. Also why have we heard NOTHING from the team or players about it. Can we move on for Gods sake. This is pathetic

Sounds to me the staff made a poor choice in what cleats to help with... And weren't quick enough to make the change. I imagine it was harder to Ee the slipping watching on the sideline and the first couple might assume cleats are fine they just slipped then they realized conditions changed and FINALLY made the switch.
From what I gather these guys show up in street clothes/ expensive suits and diamond earings then suit up what ever is put in front of them. Don't think they are carrying 20 pairs of cleats off the bus
