Patriots will need more from Haynesworth

One of the more head-scratching things about the Patriots' defense in going over the television copy of the Patriots' win over the Chargers was the lack of an impact by DT Albert Haynesworth.

He was the most impactful defensive player in the season-opening win against the Dolphins, with two run stuffs, two hurries, and 1.5 knockdowns (two holding penalties drawn are included in those numbers).

Against the Chargers, Haynesworth didn't have one impactful play. He didn't even show up on the stat sheet.

Haynesworth wasn't terrible or anything -- he competed fine (although his final two plays were a little suspect) -- you just expect an obviously talented player to have some sort of an impact.

They expect some sort of impact from AH :shock:

WHY, didn't they see him play last year?

Haynesworth's two final plays were his poorest. He was knocked to the ground for the seventh and eighth time in the game and didn't make much of an attempt to get up. Check the footage at 14:13 of the fourth quarter to see what I'm talking about. Here's a screen grab.

That play did come five plays after he came out of the game to be stretched, so maybe Haynesworth has an injury. But it didn't look good.

He had fallen and didn't get up? Who would have thunk it? I bet there has to be film of him doing this in his past.

Belicheat is caught between the rock and a hard place here

He can't cut the fat slug - that would be admitting he is not that good an evaluator OR coach

Bill has to hate playing the lazy, fat body that doesn't give a damn & who can't even run onto the field he's so out of shape

Albert does have his moments, though. I don't he's worth the cost, either in dollars or locker-room morale, because he takes so many plays off. But I don't think Belicheat is in that tough of a spot.

Yeah... I don't see Belichick as hamstrung in any way. If anyone in the league is likely to pull the plug on a name player, it's him.

I'd love him to cut the fat slug & he should - giving Haynesworth was a mistake

small but - Bill the cheat is still a great coach - maybe just a good evaluator

Haynesworth is not helping the defense and Bill just needs to admit he was wrong

Bill's not going to lose any sleep over it - AND he's still a cheat :roll:

no big deal at all - just love the small 'victories' :wink:

it's the tall poppy syndrome - just love cutting the tall ones off, just for spite :twisted:

Fat Albert isn't competing with the starters to be on the roster, he's competing with the lowest backup on the roster. I can see keeping a guy who can make three awesome plays a game and is winded the rest over a guy who's only going to see the field if three guys get injured.

My eyes glazed over at this guy's repeated use of the word "impactful." Just dreadful writing.

But more on point, I'm not sure what it was New England fans were expecting. A change of scenery and playing for one of the best teams in the league was always going to boost Haynesworth a little bit. But when has the guy ever showed that he had the raw desire to be the best? He's always been pure talent without the work ethic, focus, or desire to make something special happen.

that's the thing - when fat boy was brought in, all the expectations were for a lot more than what they're now seeing

to Kaz's point - NE have a guy that is 'competing' for the chance to make a couple of plays - he's not exactly breaking the bank here

this is NOT the Haynesworth that the media expected they would see under Bill's guidance :lol:

Fat slug's got talent - he's just not capable of playing much each week

I didn't watch the game, but I don't see Haynesworth's name in the game stats on NFL.com. Not even an assist on a tackle. Did he even play?

Nope

The New England Patriots are without three starters on defense — defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth, safety Patrick Chung, and rookie starting cornerback Ras-I Dowling — in Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.

Haynesworth has a bad back, Chung injured his thumb in last Sunday’s win against San Diego, and Dowling has a hip injury. Haynesworth and Chung were declared out on Saturday.

And now he's not even travelling with the team to Oakland this week.

One-quarter of the year will be gone and Haynesworth will have contributed a whole 2 tackles and zero sacks to the Pats D. I guess there's still time for him to make something of an impact, but . . . at the very least it's not looking good.
