Oakland Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski was charged with misdemeanor battery and false imprisonment against a California woman stemming from an alleged incident that occurred a year ago.
According to court documents in Walnut Creek, Calif., Syrena Nicholson alleged that Janikowski did unlawfully violate (her) personal liberty" and "did willfully and unlawfully use force and violence upon (her) person" on Sept. 24, 2010.
The alleged incident occurred one day before the Raiders traveled to Arizona to take on the Cardinals.
Nicholson filed her charges after the fact, which is why no arrest was made at the time, the Contra Costa Times reported.
The Raiders, who are traveling to Buffalo for a game Sunday, were unavailable for comment.
Attorneys for the veteran kicker and Nicholson met in court Thursday for a pre-trial conference, the newspaper reported.
Janikowski could face up to 18 months in prison and a $3,000 fine if convicted of the charges.
Last week, Janikowski booted a 63-yard field goal to tie an NFL record for the longest kick in NFL history.
A former first-round pick, Janikowski was arrested four times in a three-year period while a student at Florida State.
Well, this does not surprise me. I can't remember but didn't he get involved with a date rape drug and assault a woman before?
