Fred Davis will only get better and better. Now Cooley sounds off about his desire to contribute big this year. I really like Cooley and Fred and I hope BOTH can have LONG careers here with the Skins....

Is CC feeling the heat...kinda...??? Davis is truly a young gun coming up.

Cooley: 'I think I can be one of the best'
By Ryan O'Halloran
CSNwashington.com

Tight end Chris Cooley held court for what felt like 25-30 minutes in the locker room Monday morning and was clearly excited about how his knee reacted to playing against the Giants. Some of his leftovers:

* On his 2011 prospects: “To be honest, I think I can be one of the best tight ends in the league. I have no doubt about that. The work ethic will be there more than it ever has been this year.”

* On the wrap he looked ‘hobbled’: “That was the common word used – hobbled. I watched a lot of the routes and a couple seam routes and I looked back at last year and I’m running down the seam faster than I was last year.”

* On the early vibes: “It’s so important for me to play for this team, I’m not willing to miss time or sit out. I want to make a difference on this team. I know a lot of guys are saying this and it’s still early, [but] there’s something special happening in our locker room and I’m not willing to not be a part of that.”

Both Cooley and Davis will help this franchise - they are both very good TEs, that offer different options for Mike & Kyle's offense

Cooley is a fantastic "clutch" player

Davis will get more catches and yards

We need both - they need each other

stats don't always indicate the true value of a player

Production wise Cooley is a top five TE, there is no debating that.

However there are two reasons, some less productive TE are often seen as better than him by morons in the media and fans.

The first is his TD numbers over the past few years. In hours first four seasons he was a six to eight TD a year guy. The past few years, not so much. But that is a product of poor QB play and different systems.

The second reason is, he just isn't flashy. People like flashy things.

A lot of people never mentioned Marvin Harrison as one of the best WR in the NFL, even though for a five year stretch there wasn't anyone better. Why? He wasn't flashy.

Same thing for Santana Moss.

Since he has been with the Skins find me a NFC East WR that has had had more catches and more yards during that time. You can't do it. Sure some have had more productive single seasons and there are some with more TDs and higher yards per catch, but boone have moved the ball more than Tana. Yet, Moss is always questioned as being a legit #1 WR and never mentioned as one of the best in the division.

The difference is that they have Tom Brady and we have Rex Grossman, plus Cooley knee is going to bother him all season long.

THE SAME AS LAST YEAR!!!!

His knee was bothering him almost ALL of last year. Yet, he still was a top 3 TE last year.

Cooley will be fine. He is a proven stud, unlike your man crush and potential dud, Luck.

Yeah I don't see why he should be feeling heat. Is Cooley is anywhere near as productive as he has been in the past AND Fred Davis takes off, what exactly is supposed to happen? The Shanahans are going to decide, "Oh no, we don't really want two hot TEs in our offense"????

I used to think they couldn't co-exist. But, the Patriots are proving that 2 TEs can do just that. Especially if one of them is athletic like a big WR. For them it's Hernandez, for us it's Davis.

Of course they have a guy named Tom Brady whose decent.

We do have to be realistic, this is what, his 8th year? He's technically "old" as far as football age is concerned. He probably only has a couple years left in him.

Even so, I don't like thinking of Cooley in another UNI.... stay a Skins for life....!!!

I don't want to hear any of that "old" stuff about my favorite Redskin.

He's a spring spring chicken compared to Tony Gonzalez. He is a couple of years younger than Gates and the same age as Witten. Sure Gonzalez is near the end, but I don't think anyone is accusing Gates or Witten of being close to the end.

I've been on the this site for years, and this is the first time I have ever responded to the one they call "The Troll". I can't hold it in any longer. I absolutely cannot stand seeing what you write about on here. I don't care if im "attacking" you. You are a pathetic excuse for a fan and a human being. Everybody on this site hates you and everything you ever write, because all you do is wallow in negativity. Have you ever been laid? Do you have friends. You are a piece of cr*p. I hope you die of shame.

Rather then feeling like he needs to rush back, I hope Cooley feels like he can get healthy. We need a healthy Cooley, not a wounded one. Davis takes some pressure off.

That's a good point - we need a healthy Cooley for the long haul

Hopefully in a few hours this troll will be history

This troll is NOT a Redskins fan - no fan wants their team to lose any game, let alone "tank" a season

we all would love to get a great QB (hopefully Andrew Luck) but to think that the franchise can ONLY get better by tanking a season is just STUPID

He has also broken rules here with posts that are clearly flaming - IMO the STAFF here have done a great job - he's the one that made the mistake of saying he would leave if we did not win 2 of the first 5 games

that time looks like it's here - TODAY

we would definetly be helped by getting Andrew Luck or whomever Bruce & Mike really like

fact is we will NOT "tank" a season to do that - NO WAY

bye bye RR56 - you are NOT a fan of the Washington Redskins

I'm on record this past year as saying I wouldn't mind see Cooley traded. I think he still has a lot of value that would help us if we went that route, and compared to the production I'm personally expecting out of him over the next few years (keeping in mind we've got Davis to turn to) . . . well . . . I trade him.

It wasn't exactly a popular position to hold back then.

It's too late to do that now, of course, and by this offseason I suspect his value will have gone down by quite a bit.

Of course, I love having Cooley on the team, anyway. He's still a great player. But I do think he'll be feeling the heat with the way Davis has come on lately.
