LaRon Landry - DB - Redskins
The Washington Post gets "the sense" that SS LaRon Landry (Achilles', hamstring) isn't close to returning at full strength anytime soon.
Landy is one of the most talented and effective safeties in the game, but hasn't played since Week 10 of last season. Reed Doughty is a reasonable replacement as he kicks O.J. Atogwe to the strong side, but he's not the difference-maker Landry is.

I'd be more comfortable with Dejon Gomes getting in at Strong Safety. Reed Doughty is just awful and teams know it. Great ST player and teammate. Horrible SS.

Was there anyone that was actually expecting him back soon? No way he plays this week. Hopefully he'll be ready for Dallas in week 3.

Based on week 1, I expect we'll get a good dose of an air attack from Kolb. Last week he completed 18 of 27 for 309, 2TDs - and you know they'll target Reed.

Reed will have to play more consistently and not make the same errors.

Some of his problem is lack of talent. He's just slow and unathletic. He looks like he's running with scuba flippers on his feet.

I'd go with Gomes over Reed as well. At least he has got some speed. I would like Landry back to knock out some Cowboys in 2 weeks but he shouldn't be rushed.

With Gomes the idea is to have him practice more and more situations. You don't want him to play every down because too often he won't know what to do. Particularly with the very short off season.

Doughty is a solid SS, who is not fast. He does not make mistakes. He does not arm tackle. There is a reason that
1: He led the team in tackles, and
2: The team has not found a way to replace... or to bench... him. You will get a generally consistent and error free performance.

With Gomes, who will (eventually) take over Doughty's role, you get a better athlete, with a rookie's mindset, knowledge, and propensity for errors. Either way, you get what you get... the difference is, Doughty always knows where he needs to be... he just can't always get there... Gomes is going to be out of position at times because he's simply lost.

Like when the Dr. asked my dad before an exam if he wanted a laxative or an enema....Dad says "either way it's gonna be messy."

You know I'm getting really tired of people bashing Doughty over that one long pass play and one run. The pitas is exactly the type of play Landry would have gotten best on and he has been know to come up too aggressively and miss rb too.

Daughty is not as bad as people make him out to be. If he was he wouldn't be playing.

I kinda of agree on Reed, but you gotta know when teams are breaking down film.......his 2 big gaffs are going to stand out like the perverbial sore thumb (or in this case hamstring).

I completely agree, however those aren't the type of plays that RD gets beat onk. They're however exactly the type of plays LL gets beat on. Doughty typically gets best due to his physical limitations and those were mental gaffs.

The one big pass play he was caught defending the deep right half and he bit own Nicks' fake on the deep come back our curl. He aggressively played it and got burned. Ll would have gotten burned 9 out of 10 times on that same play.

I've heard that leading the team in tackles is not something to brag about as a safety. Like it means you're not doing a very good job in coverage.

I admit, i know little about the scheme, but watching the game, they sure went to reed's side a lot, and he seemed out of position a lot. Landry may not be disciplined, but he makes up for it with speed and instincts more often than not IMO.

And on that long ball, reed definitely turned to the outside receiver giving eli the read to go inside.

What makes you believe that he's not disciplined?
