This is why the Skins will be much better this year

The cohesive play of the O line.

There is a Washington Times article breaking down the Hightower TD run against the Ravens.

The offensive line made Hightower’s run possible, just as it did for his 58-yard scamper against Indianapolis the previous week.

The Redskins lined up with a tight end on each side of the line, so there were seven blockers up front. All seven executed their blocks, which provided Hightower a lane through which to cut back to the left and into the open field.

“A lot of those plays, if the front side is not there, we’re counting on the back side being open as much as the front side,” left guard Kory Lichtensteiger said. “Everybody down the line knows that it could be their block on any play that springs him.”

The play started by flowing to the right. Right tackle Jammal Brown squared his shoulders to Baltimore’s Terrell Suggs, who was playing defensive end, and blocked off Suggs‘ path to Hightower. It helped that tight end Mike Sellers chipped Suggs before proceeding to block linebacker Jameel McClain.

Center Will Montgomery and right guard Chris Chester double-teamed three-time All-Pro lineman Haloti Ngata, pushing him to the right off the line of scrimmage.

The back-side action was even better. Lichtensteiger’s cut block actually took out two Ravens linemen and put them on the ground. That opened up the cutback lane for Hightower.
and the best part,
Left tackle Trent Williams sealed the lane by running five yards past the line of scrimmage and mauling Ravens Pro Bowl linebacker Ray Lewis.

I raise my glass to the O line and Hightower and to paraphrase a quote from the Most Interesting Man in the World and say, "stay healthy my friends, Go SKINS!"

i like! but, cautiously I whisper "pre season".... :)

It looks good, just dumping AH made a world of difference and now we are filled with young hungry guys. So far Shanny has done what he set out to do. We might not be great, but we will be competitive.

Both teams were working hard this past week. We were also pretty chippy with each other so you know it was bragging rights on the line. My gut says that if we had picked one qB to play, we would've won that game. And I don't think it mattered if it was Beck or Grossman.

We're not going to be "much better" - we're getting there

this franchise is going through a complete re-make - the Shanaplan is in place

We still need a little more time to add some key pieces (QB plus depth)

ref the last scrimmage in Bal'more - We did what we wanted to do - in that sense we "won" the game

Preseason games are just a form of practice and are most important for "evaluating" what you've got

the guys that will most likely be a part of the Redskins this season played better than their players

many players that will not start for either franchise were involved in a part of the game that ended with the Ravens having more points

WE "WON" this scrimmage - nobody on the Ravens can be happy about how they played

bot - we are looking better - I am cautiously optimistic because we do not have a lot of depth, especially the bigger guys

The hell with all the cautious optimism. We are winning the division this year. This year the Redskins will be that team that emerges from nowhere. This year the Redskins will be the 1999 Rams or the 2001 Patriots. This year John Beck is Warner or Brady, or Grossman will be Rich Gannon circa 2002. This year will be our year.

x2 what cleg said...
Name one area we didn't improve on at list a little? Db lb nose and ends Oline Rb wr even qb situation looks better then mcnug and rexy. Special teams needs discipline but the push on the gayvens line during the roughing the kicker call was nice to see close to blocked maybe even points. Need some big play makers to get healthy and stay healthy but over all w the added players AND depth we look much more confident and improved iin shannys schemes on both sides of the ball. I'd bet any puke fan I know that we have a better record and or take the east.

Since 1993, an average of 6 new teams make the play-offs each year. HTTR

I love seeing a WORK ETHIC evident in every interview and every play from every position. As long as everyone is giving their best effort, I will be content with how the chips fall. The shape of a football creates a random factor in how the ball bounces and brings the element of chance squarely into play. Chance favors the prepared mind, and this rendition of our team seems better prepared than any other in recent memory.we were close in most games last year, close enough that small improvements could pay big dividends. Sure hope so, anyway!

You guys are taking way too much stock into the preseason. Lets see what the o-line does in the regular season, I think it will be terrible again like last year.

WHY - I mean WHY - you should just let it go

these are just fans getting excited about their team's prospects

leave it alone - you can be critical without being so VEHEMENT

Geez louise

He's kind of right and kind of wrong. I'm getting excited for the season as much as anyone and I do see improvement, but to put this much stock into the preseason is setting yourself up for disappointment. 8-8 is a realistic target, but to say it's going to be terrible is just being a pessimist.

And by the way, close games are the norm nowadays. Every average team is in almost every game they play. It called parity

Actually, the average margin of victory in NFL games hovers around 11.5. To. 12.5 this decade, with a peak of 12.97 in 2009. In the past decade, 45.7% of games have been determined by y7points or less, and 23.1% by 3 points or less. Last year, the Redskins had 12 games decided by 7 or fewer points, or75%, and 9 games which were decided by 3 or fewer, or 56.25%. While parity is a stated goal of the league, the Redskins have far more close games than the norm. This is one of the reasons that I believe relatively small improvement across the board might be enough to bring major improvement in record.
