QB Poll

I can't believe we don't have one of these yet.

So, it's obvious that one of these guys is going to start. Despite who you THINK is going to be the guy, who do you WANT to start at QB?

Nice job waiting until we had more gametime to watch to give you an honest answer. Good poll..

I say Beck. Watching how the OL picks up a bit more when he's in is obvious to me. Plus I like the fact SexyRexy is a veteran and a veteran with Kyle's offense already programmed. If Beck gets hurt, we're in good shape.. heck I actually like Clemons as our third QB as well. Things look promising with our QBs, still rather have Peyton or Rivers or Brady or Brees though

Yeah, I picked Beck too. I believe in his upside. Seems like a funny thing to say about a 30 year old QB, but I love the redemption story. He looks like he'll get a bona fide chance to start and I'm hoping he makes good on his big break like Trent Green, Kurt Warner, Brad Johnson, Steve Young, and others who didn't get to play until later in their careers.

He's got a good arm, he's athletic and he seems to have a total understanding of the system. He'll have an easy job filling McNabb's shoes.

Beck's short drops and quick releases were buring the Raven's D last night. I think ANY team will have trouble defending that....

Early in camp I was thinking Rex, but Beck has won me over. He seems very comfortable running the offence and I think he might have a greater upside with his mobility.

Speaking of old timers someone needs to print up: "I'm for John", "I'm for Rex" t-shirts

Wow, It's tough, I think it's close, almost interchangeable. Rex has more experience as a starter and with the offense. Beck appears to hold the ball to long sometimes. I was at the game last night, gotta watch it on the TV this weekend, had my wife DVR it for me. I'm impressed with both...

I hope Mike starts BOTH of them

I know only 1 QB will "start" against the Giants and from what LITTLE we've seen, I'd go with Beck
We are lucky to have both - we're going to need them

The 'suck for Luck' crew must be having a hard time with the encouraging signs from the players AND the coaches
unlike what some here are hoping - these guys are going to give us a lot to be happy about

I can hear it now - "it's ONLY pre season"

THANKFULLY - Mike & Bruce are in charge here - they will find us a great QB

I'm all for the theory of he's playing both of them in preseason that way because he wants to use both during regular season. I'M ALL IN!... I'm all in no matter what they do! .. but I'm all in on playing both, defenses wouldn't get a read on them.

If we played both in aGame I thi k Ds would blitz Rex and watch beck for the deep ball.... Good way to switch it up let rx air and beck run it.. If we can keep them always guessing itd be nice to run em as qb and q spell b. Really excites to have some wide outs AND both qbs are the best we've had in years!

Grossman looked GOOD....nice accuracy, nice touch to the endzone.

NICE...!!! Beck is pretty good too. It's Shanny's decision.

During the broadcast, either Jaws or Gruden said Grossman himself mentioned "Good Rex" and "Bad Rex". He knows he needs to be more consistent.

Mark Schlereth made an interesting comment on Sports Center that he gave the edge to Beck in the competition because of how Mike Shanahan's system works. He loves to get the QB out of the pocket and since Beck is a better athlete he's a little more mobile and better at those types of plays. Grossman would make a hell of a backup IMO.

I also like how Beck can scramble when in trouble to open something up. He seems to have one of the smoothest bootlegs I've seen in DC in a very long time.
I voted for Beck to start with Joe's reasoning of a good veteran backup.
Hail!

What you said and what was said by the announcers last night - Beck seems to energize the team when he comes in - I gues that would fit under leadership.

C'mon CT - Kilmer's the guy, he took us to the Super Bowl.

On second thought, I have always believed that had Sonny not been hurt, we would have won the Super Bowl - He would not have hit the goal post on that pass to Jerry Smith.

C'mom Tribe, we all know it is Kyle's, I mean, Mike's decision and he won't be voting on this thread - so have a go, why don't ya? Rex or Beck? :)

Man this is the craziest QB competition ever. I really have no strong opinion on this at all. You should add a third option like "I'm cool with either one."

Fixed it for you... and I agree... Don Shula said as much, as well...

Gruden on Beck:

Beck’s First Throw

“Excellent throw, great start for John Beck, who’s one of the best-kept secrets in pro football. Nobody knows much about John Beck.”

Tim Hightower’s Long Touchdown Run

“That says a lot to me, not only about Hightower but John Beck. He came in here and got this offense going. Three plays, 80 yards, touchdown....Phenomenal run by Hightower, but I just felt John Beck came in there and shot this place full of energy. You saw a different job in the play-calling, they took the shot, you see the stronger arm of a John Beck, you see a go route, you come back with a deep pass to the left, it sets up the defense for the running game.”

Back-to-Back Completions

“I’ll tell you what’s impressive about these last two throws of John Beck: you see the athleticism. You don’t know what happened to John Beck in the last three years, but you do know he acquired knowledge, and he may have gotten a lot stronger. But watch the athleticism, to throw the ball from an awkward delivery and accurate. That’s back-to-back throws from John Beck. Impressive after an interception.”

A Completion To Terence Austin

“John Beck, five-step, no hitch, BAM, ball’s gone. Ball’s thrown perfectly a foot in front of Austin’s number.”

A Short Hightower Run

“I just know what John Beck and Rex Grossman bring to the picnic here. Above the neck intelligence, total system understanding. Kyle Shanahan, Mike Shanahan’s son is the offensive coordinator. They ask a lot of these quarterbacks. They’re very fortunate to have two guys that can manage their system and play the game. Not a lot of guys can say that. I haven’t seen two quarterbacks come into a preseason game this year and look this sharp.”

A Touchdown Drive

“Everything Beck did on that drive, I liked. He scrambled for six yards, he beat the blitz, he audibled, he managed the running game. I’ve seen enough. I’m going on record tonight: that’s the starting quarterback of the Washington Redskins. I like the way he moves around. The guy really looks sharp to me. I’m going on record, I’m going with Beck. He impresses me....I just think physically, he’s the most impressive guy I’ve seen tonight.”

I picked Beck. Among other things, I think he's got the tempermentfor the job.
