End arounds...Coles will stretch the field while Thrash runs for 20+ yards

Red zone...Thrash has been a reliable red zone target for McNabb in past seasons

Play book....Thrash rejoins the Redskins from a NFC East rival (3 time champions), he can let Gibbs know the details of the Eagles achilles heal.

Work ethic...busts his ass in practice and games, weight room junkie

Cons:

Age....his best years are gone, he is a Kurt Warner type "try hard" player, good story coming from nowhere

....thats about it, now that I think about it.


With Coles being the clear #1 and McCants and Jacobs stepping up, Thrash will find his niche in this offense.
End arounds, returns, etc.
Not to mention he has been to the NFC Championship game 3 years in a row...he know how to step it up in December.

Maybe giving up next years 5th rounder for Thrash isn't so bad. He is a hard worker and a Gibbs type player.

I am officially on the fence about this one. Give me a few weeks to decide.

James Thrash will be used effectivley on special teams but I can barely see him as even breaking into the top three recievers. I have a feeling Taylor Jacobs might be huge surprise this year esspecially if we trade Rod Gardner. Thrash and Mcnabb connected for one touchdown last year, so I would not exaclty call him a real red zone threat.

Honestly I am going to be kind of sad to part with Rod Gardner if we do trade him, but assuming we can get a second round pick for him I think in reality it would be a smart move. With a second round pick we could draft Sean Taylor with the 5th pick and perhaps grab a DE like Lamar Odom out of Alabama. A little speed from the outside would be a huge help for our defense. You really have to assume Coach Gibbs and Greg Williams have a clear vision for where the team needs move.

Thrash was our Achilles heel.

PROS: We don't have to worry about who to draft with that silly fifth round pick.

CONS: We now have James Thrash on our team.

I believe in Gibbs, and if he thought this was a good move, then it's good enough for me. But if it was anyone else...

I seem to remember Philly turning into a playoff team once Thrash arrived. Now, I know Thrash isn't a superstar like McNabb, Owens, Kearse etc... And it's not like he carried them. But, Philly won a lot of games with Thrash on the team.

BTW, the eagles let J. Trotter go for nothin'. They traded Thrash for a 5th rounder. hmm...

I am surprised Reid let Thrash go to another NFC east team, though.

I think the Eagles are going to miss Thrash more than they think. Same as when the skins lost him to Philly.

PS. Didn't the 49ers almost trade owens to philly (before baltimore stepped in) for Thrash and a 5th rounder?

Remember that's a 2005 5th rounder. Equivalent to a 6th or 7th rounder this year. (Meaning someone would probably trade a 6th or 7th this year for a 5th next year.)

Yeah, that was the rumored deal. The 49ers deny any such deal was in place though.

Anyway, Thrash and Pinkston were an upgrade of Torrence Small and Charles Johnson. They were okay during the season since the ball gets spread around so much, but during the playoffs they were shut down year after year.

no, that's WHY owens got traded to the ravens because that was such a weak offer. a 2nd round pick vs. j. thrash and 5th rounder...c'mon, that's a no brainer

He never worked out in philly GF because you tried to make him a #1 WR, obviously now you can attest to the fact that he's just a good slot receiver and ST player... exactly the role he will play in Washington.

McCants is going to be signed and promoted to #2 and Gardner will be dealt IMO.

The only con to getting Thrash is that we may get less for Gardner with such an obvious glut at receiver.

guess i should have read the article first... Do you really think someone would be willing to give up a 2nd for Gardner? I find it hard to believe... I just didn't see any consistancy in Gardner over the past 3 years and I can't see anyone giving up a 1rst or a 2nd for him.... I hope i'm wrong of course

bahhhhhhh... first season they sat on the fence whether it was Thrash or Pinkston but thrash was McNabb's favorite target regardless of which exact 'position' he was lining up in.

Gardner has 2.2M left in bonus money over the next two seasons and counts about 2.116 this year... so we wouldn't make any cap money by trading him and we wouldn't lose any either. There would be the added cost of signing whatever draft pick we received in return.

If he plays for us in 2004 he will cost $2.116 M -- 1.1M in signing bonus and 1.06 in annual contract.

If we trade him we have to eat all of his bonus money at once (1.1M in 2004 and 1.1M in 2005) which equates to 2.2M. So he will cost us 2.2M even though he is not here.

But the 2.116M for his annual + the 2004 portion of the Signing bonus are already calculated into our cap.

So we actually lose about 84,000 in cap space
