Team stats

Redskins are #1 in offense and #1 in defense. Enjoy this sight while you can, everyone. It's only preseason, but it still feels good, and likely won't last very long into the regular season (not saying we're going to be lousy, but #1 in each category is a pretty tall order).

Hey DcD,

Glad you are starting to look at the glass a quarter full. :)

I think you are safe to say that the number 1 rankings won't , as opposed to saying likely won't last very long. Our defense has improved but we are not going from worst to first yet. I can see us sniffing the top ten as the season progresses. Likewise for our offense who was, I believe 18th last year.

Back to preseason - We all know that the Ravens play to win preseason games. Harbaugh bragged about running over "that team" (The Redskins) after last year's preseason game. They beat us 23-3. We couldn't run period and gave up on it.

These are our rushing stats c/yards

C. Portis 2/14
K. Williams 2/6
L. Johnson 8/4
R. Torain 1/2
W. Parker 1 -1 0 -1
25 yds rushing

If we can run against the Ravens on Thursday, even being a preseason game - it will be meaningful.

even though its just preseason it represents such a huge improvement that I can't help but believe we are seeing a renaissance. the future
seems brighter.

Yea I've never really been big on preseason until this year when we needed it the most with all these new players. I hope we can continue making progress through the last 2 games and hopefully carry it into the gnats game.

I'll take it! One nice thing about being at the bottom in defense last year is it will be a huge improvement if we finish #15 this year.

I'm glad we are #1/#1 in yards allowed in the preseason.

That is almost as impressive as our #1/#2 points allowed (off/def) in 1991 and our #4/#3 in off/def yards.

JUST KIDDING.

However, those are the best stats EVER for a SB winning team!

But what baffles me is no other SB team was ever that dominant and it gets any credit for being one of the best teams of all time!

Here is how little the preseason matters.

This stat by @AdamSchefter shows you how important wins/losses are in preseason. Since 2005, Colts 4-24 in preseason, 75-21 regular season.

Indeed- it's downright shameful that the national sports media gives NO RECOGNITION whatsoever to not only that squad in particular (they WERE one of the greatest NFL teams of all time--- factually. as you indicated), but to the Redskins of the Gibbs 1.0 era altogether. They can't stop going down on the 49ers and the (gag) the Cowboys, yet they completely ignore our DYNASTY.

The pathetic reason? We didn't have any "superstars". Which makes no sense, because that just makes it all the more impressive that we managed to have a dynasty without a star QB etc. You can safely bet that will never happen again-- no team will ever win 3 of 4 superbowl visits in less than a decade with 3 different QBs ever again.

But all they care about is "celebrity". "stars". Gross.

Facinating... nowhere does anyone mention the record... yet, YOU keep going back to it. You aren't paying attention.

Exactly. I keep wondering who he's supposed to be arguing against.
