Marshall Faulk comments on the Skins....

Mr HOF said: "Listen, the Redskins and John Beck are for REAL"....he said this just today on NFL Network....

He went on to say that Hightower, the coaches, etc....are looking impressive, in his opinion. Frankly, I value Marshall's opinion.

HAIL YEAH....!!!

I do too. Can't say we'll close games out but we've managed to move the ball effectively vs some pretty good defenses. Of course they're vanilla but we're running stretch right, stretch left, bootleg right and bootleg left. Sometimes just doing your job get's the overall job done. Just need to do it in the season and in the redzone.

He also mentioned that Beck throws a "pretty" ball with zip and accuaracy...... or something like that.

he is also a phony. met him in person and he couldnt have been more of an ass.

grain of salt. faulk was a great player...doesnt mean he can evaluate. like all commentators he throws s against the wall and sees what will stick.

Its not like Marshall is an idiot. Most of what he says make a whole lot of sense. Obviously we are homers but I think this team could go 10-6. Wild card team. I have no logic or sense when making predictions with my team. Seriously though I am thinking 10-6.

Doesn't matter if you like him or not. People are going to start paying attention to the Redskins if we keep playing at this level. The truth is we have played some well disciplined football against some very good teams in the preseason.

All of these analysts are looking for a sleeper around this time of the year. You look really good if you can say in December that you called it in August.

Disciplined football.. now that's a phrase we haven't heard around DC in a very very long time.

Just because somebody is an a$$ doesn't mean he's a phony or a poor analyst. I think he's a lot better than any of those bums on ESPN who all think it's just the Jets and Eagles in the NFL.

I've met him and he's a super nice guy. Sat down and talked with me while I was in a waiting room. Didn't have to. And more importantly, he was the one who said hello. Not me.

Who cares what his personality is like? I think he is correct in this analysis, and that's whart matters.

For all the accolades about Gibbs and his offense in the 1980s, and the genius of his use of movement of the WRs pre-snap (mainly Art Monk), the truth is that every team knew exactly what the Redskins were going to do. It didn't matter - either you stop it or you lose. Most lost. Execution was everything. Doing your job indeed gets the job done.

First off, I find this thread a bit comical in that people are instantly supporting Faulk as an analyst merely because he said he believes the skins are for real. Although, if anyone told me that Beck had "zip" on his throws I would laugh at their face -- especially when 90% of his throws went under 10 yards.

But to the comment above, I agree. All the analysts are looking for the potential "sleeper" team -- and right now the skins have looked solid.

I am still not sold on the fact the skins are a sleeper team -- they still have issues at QB AND they are in one of the hardest divisions in football. I would love for it to work out that way though...

I don't think the guy is a good analyst though. He does seem to be very much like any other bafoon that's in the media

If you don't think Beck has serious zip on his throws, you need pay closer attention. He has a history of decent downfield arm strength as well. But zip generally means, good velocity on short to intermendiate throws using a short/quick delivery. Beck has this in spades.

Agree about Faulks personality, it means little or nothing to me with regards to his intelligence and analytical skills. he is clearly one of the most intelligent analysts and was one of the most intelligent football players in the game. his opinion carries some weight.

I do agree that Beck has a quick release. I also agree that he is a solid short yardage passer.

I am not sold on the fact he has good velocity on passes ranging from 10-25 yards. In terms of "zip", Beck did have a couple nice side-arm style passes in the preseason game, but the vast majority of his throws were short yardage (I try to stay away from the term "dump offs"), thus I am not sure how anyone can affirmatively say he has good velocity or zip from watching the most recent preseason (as Faulk appears to do) -- unless you are saying he has "zip" on throws between 5-10 yards -- and if that is the case, then who really cares. Any QB worth a dime should have zip on short yardage passes.

From Beck's scouting profile when he was drafted:

With one question mark answered, that left the biggest knock on Beck – arm strength. After watching some film on him, this writer wonders where those questions arose in the first place. There are numerous occasions where Beck gets the ball 40+ yards down the field with what is a seeming flick of the wrist. Film also shows good escapability and a willingness to deliver a throw knowing a big hit is coming. He further answered arm strength questions by recording the second highest ball speed at the combine with a 61.1 mph throw and then throwing the ball very well at his Pro Day.

I heard an interview with Beck where he was asked about his arm strength. He said he has always been taught to throw a "catchable ball" when possible. So he doesn't throw 100% velocity unless he has to. I think if you watch his throws he does exactly that. he throws a catchable ball most of the time. Every once in a while, he'll throw a 30 yard pass on a freakin rope and you'll do a double take. He's got plenty of ball velocity.

For comparison to Beck's 61.1 mph at the combine, here's some of this years rookie QB numbers. Many of you have gushed about how much you would have like the Redskins to draft on of these "strong armed" passers. ;)

Colin Kaepernick (Nevada): 59 mph - I believe he rated fastest at the 2011 combine.

Ryan Mallett (Arkansas): 58 mph

Cam Newton (Auburn): 56 mph

Mis-perception is a bitch ain't it? lol
