Who's going to carry the rock?

What is the current temp on the RB situation for us? I see it going this way:
Torain will start the season and get about 15 carries per game. At some point, (maybe 5 weeks into the season) Torain gets hurt. Then Hightower takes over and doesn't look back. The rookies still get touches, but Hightower keeps the starting role.
This is murky! I just think the whole thing is up in the air. What I don't see is either of the rookies taking over as the goto guy.
What are your thoughts.

I'd like to see Torrain and HT split carries with Torrain getting a bulk in the 1st three qtrs. Then let a fresh HT/Helu finish off a tired defense at the end. Just pound them into submission.

We have a load of one cut, downhill backs who are tailor made for Shanny's ZBS... There will be no rest for defenses in the 4th quarter... as long as the passing game is able to keep them from loading the box early on. That's the real question.

As long as Hightower doesn't revert to his fumbling ways, I see him as the starter, but Torain will get his carries as well. In addition to his running, I can see Helu being brought in to catch passes out of the backfield to get him in space to take advantage of his speed.
Definitely a backfield by committee.

The good thing is that we'll tire the defenses out by making them run. Those fat boys will get gassed. Especially teams with no depth...

I thought that Shanny named Hightower the starter already. Maybe I'm wrong.

Hightower and Torain will split carries, I didn't even think this was a question.

He hasn't and that'd be very much unlike him.

Good to know the decision has been made already.

What decision? It's like asking who is going to play 3B for the Nats.

Hightower is starting.. the real question is who is backing him up?

I had Hightower and Torain on my fantasy team and traded Hightower because I thought Torain would be our starter. Oops. Did I make a mistake? We'll see what Torain does against Indy to see if he solidifies his standing.

I know Torain has returned to practice but I don't believe that he is scheduled to participate in the Skins-Colts preseason game.

Correct. Torain is out for today's game.

You hit the nail on the head. It really doesn't matter who the starting back is if Beck/Grossman can't do enough to keep defenses from stacking the box against us. You can bet that defenses are going to keeping stacking the box until we show that we can consistently make plays in the passing game.

Well, Grossman is good enough to keep the honest. Sure they may cheat a bit but he'll at least move the chains in those situations.

Good stuff. It seems like Hightower might be getting the edge right now, but that will be opened back up if Hightower has any fumbling issues.
I saw Hightower as RB28 and Torain as RB35

And here a little lower at RB33 and RB42 respectively.

Hightower - #1
Torain - #2
and save some of that rock for Helu at #3.
That's quite a backfield speed and power!

Good call on Helu!

After last night, I'm really confident Helu is our #3 and pushing Torain for that backup spot.

It feels really good to know that we have a crowded backfield and the coaches are going to have a tough time deciding what to do with all of our running backs. I am really impressed with Helu and Hightower. I hope Torain can get (and stay) healthy to be our big bruising back while the other guys and be the all purpose guys. Of course I saw that when Helu was making big time plays with his power last night.
I know one thing though, #36 is going to be our new fullback. That guy has pretty good moves when he gets the rock.
And not throw Portis under the bus, but it is nice NOT to see guys flop down when they are about to get hit.

That is Darrel Young... and he is also a very effective lead blocker and reciever out of the backfield. Did you see him literally THROW off that tackler in the backfield? VERY impressive.

Roy Helu could send Ryan Torain to third string—The rookie out of Nebraska could have the second-most carries from game to game behind Hightower. This is far from a lock since Torain was the team’s leading rusher last year and he was very effective at times. But Helu has a burst that no other back on the roster has and it would be hard to keep him on the bench.
This is being said before the Ravens game. We will need Torain's hard running against them. If Helu has a big game against the Ravens then we might be talking about elevating Helu to #2 but Torain will not be cut. The Cardinals might be eyeing one of our running backs for trade to replace Matthews.

Yeah, I couldn't think of his name when I was typing so I said #36 haha. He looks hungry and dude seems to be a more complete player than Sellers and sellers is pretty good. I hope Sellers catches on at tightend, because we would have a pretty sick heavy package that can stuff it and PA pass it. And my name is CapPster
