Fox, a seven-year veteran, spent four seasons with the Chiefs before playing for the Steelers over the last three. Fox served as special-teams captain in 2009 and 2010.

Good solid signing that will help the STs even more also a good vet that will help the locker room. I'm sure Spano(spell) is fairly familar with him too. Sounds like we'll have some beasts on the KO and Punt coverage.

A core special teamer and reserve linebacker in Pittsburgh the past three seasons, Fox will have a pretty good shot at making the Redskins roster. He's being reunited with Redskins LBs coach Lou Spanos, who was a defensive assistant for the Steelers from 1995-2009.

Is he an ILB?

Perhaps this is why Henson was released.

Love the Pick!

Pittsburgh Steelers 2011 Free Agent Analysis: Keyaron Fox
Fox has proven to be well worth the investment this past three years. James Farrior and Lawrence Timmons have hoarded the playing time at inside linebacker, but Fox has been productive during his limited snaps on defense. His 82-yard interception return of Brett Favre helped seal an early-season win against the Vikings in 2009, and in each of his three seasons in Pittsburgh, he's recovered at least one fumble.

Fox's primary responsibilities though came as the captain of the special teams last season.

What I'd do: Most people believe Fox has played his final snaps in the black and gold. I'm not one of them. If you look at the Steelers depth chart at inside linebacker, it doesn't make much sense to let Fox go. James Farrior will be 35 during the '11 season, and though Potsie had a very nice bounce-back season a year ago, it would be foolish to not have a solid, proven insurance option behind him in the event that he finally hits the wall physically. Lawrence Timmons meanwhile emerged as one of the game's elite 'backers, but I think the Steelers coaching staff would be wise to spell him a bit more frequently in future years. Timmons was absolutely beastly to begin the year, then faded just a tad down the stretch. A capable, veteran player like Fox to relieve both Timmons and Farrior would be a nice asset to have.

So, I personally would try to re-sign Fox to a reasonable deal that ensures the Steelers have competent, proven depth at ILB for the next two seasons

Good pick up, Sounds like a good special team guy and he won't hurt you when he's in on defense.

1. I don't think that they are bringing him in for the strict purpose for being a back up and special teams guy. Fox backed up Farrior and Timmons - two outstadning linebackers in the 3-4 system. He will be competing against Rocky who is not of those guys caliber.
2. I believe that one of his incentives for leaving Pittsburgh, a Super Bowl team, was to come here for a chance to start.
3. Fox has more experience at ILB and knows the type of 3-4 Haz runs since it is modeled after the Steelers.
4. Redskins LB coach, Lou Spanos, was his LB coach in Pittsburgh
5. Shanny loves competition between players- let the competition begin.

Tale of the Tape

Fox - 29/ 8 yr/ 26'3" 235

Rocky - 28/ 6th yr/ 6' 2" 239

Rocky would have to be the underdog here, but what do you expect with a guy named "Rocky."

Fox could compete for the starting inside linebacker spot next to defensive captain London Fletcher. The Redskins re-signed last year’s starter Rocky McIntosh to a one-year deal, but he isn’t as ideal a fit in the 3-4 as coaches would like, and second-year pro Perry Riley has been auditioning for the job. But defensive coordinator Jim Haslett this week indicated that Riley still is a ways off in his development.

This team will have depth. Finally.

Then once we wave some young, solid depth on the roster, and starters emerge we can spend next offseason finding a QB in the draft or free agency and adding star power to the roster with all our cap space. In 2012 the Redskins are going to be a force to be reckoned with.

This was a good signing in terms of depth. He isn't a starter, but good teams have these types of players on their rosters. On good teams, their reserves are the type of guys that could start on lesser teams. Depth is a huge part of building a winner so I like this. I just don't want the FO to think they are set because of this guy. They need to continue to find solid reserve players that can step up and play in games when starters go down.

I hope the Redskins make their own stars - "stars" from other teams rarely are as good when they are taken away from the players and systems that make them "stars"

this is a team game - a good team will always be better than a group of "stars"

PATIENCE - we are making our own stars - it takes time

this franchise is going to be a force in 2012 with our own stars and a new QB

"star" players are for the fantasy football fans not this franchise

we just need to keep bringing in younger players and growing back into a team with solid depth behind good starting offensive and defensive lines
