Shanahan: Cooley has a sore knee and is being monitored closely. Said Malcolm Kelly was held out with soreness, too. Kelly said his foot.

RickMaese

Team has been monitoring Cooley's knee. Shanahan doesn't seem too concerned

Russellmania980

As for Malcolm, he was sore, trainers said to hold him back..Cooley has some swelling issues. #Redskins

Rich_Campbell

FYI, Shanahan said Kelly's injury was a hamstring/groin, but Kelly told me it was his right foot...so I'll take the player's word.

Shanahan on Kelly: "Obviously if you keep on getting hurt, it's not going to help your chances of making the football team." #Redskins

At this point in his career, saying "not going to help" is an understatement, to say the least.

Goodbye, Kelly: thanks for the . . . uh . . . well, good luck, anyway. You'll need it.

The Malcolm Kelly injury is a foot injury, not a hamstring or groin as Shanahan had thought. No timetable for return

I gotta say, the Kelly injury is a shocker. I thought it was totally safe to depend on his health, just like the redskins apparently have for 5 years.

2. Banks (knee) returned to full go, but Kelly (foot) out at least another week per Shanny.

Can we just get our money back from this guy? Like.. isn't there something in the contract saying you have to play a certain amount of games? *shrug*.. Nice pickup Vinny.

I actually don't blame Vinny for this one. Everyone on the boards was pretty happy with the selection of Kelly, and while there were some injury concerns, I don't think that anyone expected this from Kelly.

I suspect the most disappointed person about this is Malcolm Kelly...

I'm sorry Canes - NOBODY on the boards here has anything to do with selecting players

Kelly looked promising but if he's not playing up to expectations - he was a bad mistake by Cerrato and his group - not anyone here

Really? People on the boards have nothing to do with selecting plays? Wow, I never knew that

The point I was making, which clearly you missed, is that the pick of Kelly was widely regarded by fans, as well as the media, as a good pick by the Skins. Kelly had a very good career at Oklahoma and was known as a high character guy. He did have some injury concerns, primarily because of an injury to his knee his junior year, and as a result he slipped to the second round. Vinny did a lot of idiotic things when he was here, but I'm not going to blame him for Malcolm Kelly's hamstring and foot injuries. I take far more issue with his drafting Devin Thomas than I do the selection of Kelly.

I take issue with EVERYTHING that idiot did - nothing good that he did makes up for all the things that he did here

I liked Kelly coming here - now I think it was a mistake - that is Cerrato's fault NOT mine

we are fans - we are entitled to say whatever we like

Cerrato was hopeless at what he did

I am sure that Shanny doesn't blame Vinny for taking Kelly either, so you are in good company, Canes. Kelly always had a lot of upside to him and still does. That's why Shanny won't just drop him already. The injury concerns were there at the time of drafting, but in the second round sometimes you have to take that chance. Problem was Vinny took three chances and struck out - three strikes Vinny's out. In hindsight, it was a bad pick, but at the time, I couldn't fault any GM for taking him at that position in the second round. Even the Mighty Steelers drew a bust on Limas Sweed.

How does Kelly measure up in his draft class?

SampleScouting report on Kelly.

Malcolm Kelly Scouting Report by Kendall

Pros: Size, Speed, Soft hands, Intelligent route runner. Malcolm is simply a Magician when it comes to ball security and catching skills. I have never seen any receiver catch so many uncatchable balls as Kelly has done, from at the feet to 3 feet behind to fingertip drills he simply snags everything in his path. Match his size his routes and the fact that he was double covered most of his career due to his threat then you see why he as a Jr. is the best Receiver in the draft reguardless of any other pro days.

Cons: Injury he must stay healthy. (prophetic?)

Overall: 6'4" 220 runs 4.4 in teh 40 great vertical leap catches everything thrown his way. 1st rounder should be first receiver taken, whoever gets him needs only a quick counterpart at slot to coimpliment Malcoms ability. In stride he is a threat to score at any moment. He has a lot of Jery ricelike qualities with the potential of a terrell owens physique.

I'd ABSOLUTELY love it if Kelly could come through both for himself and also for Mike for seeing something there and keeping him around and giving him another chance

FACT IS - this player should not still be here and it was ANOTHER mistake by the idiot Cerrato and his advisors

KUDOS to Mike and our FO for keeping and "developing" a player that should not, by rights, still be in the NFL

GOTTA LOVE THIS FO

You do realize that our current Director of Player Development, who plays a major role in the draft, Scott Campbell, was also the Director of College Scouting during Vinny's tenure too, right? So I'm just curious who they "advisors" are that you are talking about?

Dan Snyder is still the owner here too

What does 1 guy who is still here from that stupidity have to do with ANYTHING that is happening here today

If Scott Campbell gave advice to Cerrato and he did not heed it - is that Scott's fault

OBVIOUSLY this FO knows the cause of the stupid decisions and they are NOT a part of the process here anymore

THANK THE LORD
