Kyle Orton

Rumor is out there that the Redskins may make a play for Kyle Orton. Has anyone else heard this one?
Is there anyone else out there besides me that would LOVE having Orton here instead of having to rely on Grossman & Beck & Co.?!?!?!?

Depends... Beck is expecting to start and Shanny has talked him up. Going after Orton will send an interesting message to Beck.
I personally don't like the call. Orton is a solid QB but I think we should just play this season out with Beck and Grossman. Almost anyone can play behind a good o-line, lets work on that first....

I dont know, he's not a long-term solution. I'm comfortable with Sexy Rexy or Beck for this year. Next year, make a play on Luck or a FA QB that can be here long-term. I don't want anyone who doesn't fit the system or will have to be re-molded.

I'm also OK with staying with Beck & Grossman. As painful as that could be, if it is, it could lead to Andrew Luck. If Beck surprises, then all is good. I'm prepared to witness few wins this year. If we're competitive and clearly making strides in Defense and O-Line play, but we lose most of the games by a thin margin, so be it. We don't have a playoff team. The horses aren't there....yet. We need to BUILD a team and we finally have the Front Office and Coaching Staff to do that. I'm willing to take the lumps as long as we have clear indications that we're heading in the right direction.

Where did you hear that rumor? I just googled Redskins and Kyle Orton and didn't see anything at all. All of the stories out of Denver right now are that he's their #1 QB.
Either way, I wouldn't be all that psyched about bringing in Orton personally. He may be a better QB than Grossman or Beck, but that doesn't mean he can come in here a month before the season starts and run this offense better than those guys.

Tebow is doing everything he can in practice to make sure Orton doesn't go anywhere

from everything I've heard, Tebow has looked horrendous in camp so far, and the Broncos are unlikely to deal Orton. I think Orton is a good, not great quarterback and probably better than Beck or Grossman, but not the franchise guy Skins have been looking for for 20 years...
Maybe Beck will surprise or Grossman can find some consistency, but my guess is we end up with a high draft choice and make a move for one of the big name QBs coming out next year.
Was it Jason Reid who wrote today that the Skins aren't rebuliding, they're simply building. Rebuilding implies we were once good...

This is probably a rumor started by Orton or his agent and is just nonsense. The Bronco's want a 1st round pick for Orton. He is not worth it.
I agree with many others here that Shanahan is going to go with either Beck or Grossman. I also agree that the Redskins are not a play-off competative team this year but are in the building mode. I am interested in watching what they do with Chappel. He may surprise a lot of people if given half a chance.

Trading for Orton would be a mistake and would be another attempt at a quick fix solution at qb when what we need is a long-term solution. Go with Beck this year to see what we have and then make a run at one of the top qbs in next year's draft. Luck isn't the only top qb that will be available. Landry Jones is a senior and Matt Barkley could come out early too.

Not true, at least not anymore. Pretty sure Denver said they are no longer interested in trading him. Plus if we were to do it, I think it would have been done the second FA started. As Canes said though, no since in bringing him in if we want a long-term solution. Save the $$$ and picks for someone else.

Orton is only 28, I would think trading for him would be a long term move.

Well then sit back and relax. Despite an awful season last year, we were competitive (check out my stats below). With improvements to the O line and D line, you WILL see improved play. QB play stunk last year with a guy who didn't want to follow the OC's design. It should improve with two guys who want to run the O to precsion (Grossman proved last year in his three starts that there was no drop off from McNabb). Unfortunately for the Suck for Luck crew, next year's season won't result directly in Luck, but with a little bit of luck and magic, our FO might workout a way to legitimately get him without selling the house or get someone who fits our system, as well.

Which is precisely why
we won't do it. It
would be a long term move given his salary. It is probably a sure bet that Shanny has his eye on somebody in college for his long term QB solution.

It's not that Orton is too old to be a long term option; it's that he wouldn't be a satisfactory long term option.

Here it is... Rex has played in a Superbowl. I prefer him to Orton. Plus he is three years into the KShanny system. No, I say stick with what we've got this year and find out what we have.
Ok let the tomatoes fly.

No, hold those tomatoes!
Whether one likes Rex or not, your reasoning that Rex is going into his third year in the system is smart reasoning. If Orton did come here, it would not make sense to start the season with him only knowing part of the O. Almost everyone else would be way ahead of him. He would be just holding everyone back. He would have to since we have two guys that know the offense. We would then have a $9 million dollar QB sitting on the bench. AND what if we are doing quite well with Beck or Grossman, then what do you do with Orton? If we are doing bad, then by the time he knows enough to do better, we might as well leave Beck over Grossman to evaluate him. Still, what do you do with Orton next year, when you have at least three stud college guys woth way morte upside than him coming out? At this point, we go with what we have at QB. Let the competition between Beck and Grossman begin.
Oh, and besides holding those tomatoes, hold the rotten eggs and anything else that might fly SkinsHead's way!

He might only be 28, but talent-wise he is not a long-term solution. He's a solid qb, but you aren't going to build a team around Kyle Orton.

If we're going to pine for a quarterback we're not going to get why don't we make it Brady or Manning or somebody actually good?

We are not a "good QB" away from being a very good offense - Kyle Orton is NOT guaranteed to be a "good QB"
we need to keep rebuilding and hope that this FO can put a "good QB" on the roster next season
we need to keep rebuilding this offensive line with both good starting linemen and quality depth
THIS TAKES TIME and this was not a good offseason for us to add any
