The Redskins will host free agent CB Kelvin Hayden and LB Lofa Tatupu.

Interesting. Good player, been to two or three pro bowls. I think he's had some knee problems recently and not sure how healthy he is expected to be. I wouldn't pay a mint for his services, but he would be good depth and training camp competition if the price was right.

Hayden... was he with the Colts at some point? His name is ringing a serious bell (can't research now at work)

good news is he's a CB from the Colts and that he's 'visiting' - bad news is that the 'news' is from JLC

Thanks bro!

Yea he was pretty decent if I remember correctly. Playing against the Texans twice a year was probably good experience for him too. If we sign him he should be ready for the NFC East WRs.

Not that excited about the CB. However Lofa Tatupu is a former Pro Bowler. If he can get healthy again? Well we would have our eventual replacement for FLetcher. Love Fletcher but seriously how much longer can he play? Lofa could line up next to Fletcher. Lofa is very similar to Fletcher. Lofa actually gets turnovers though. He can cover and if the ball is thrown his way can actually pick it off. I am not sure what kind of money he is looking for?

I wouldn't mind either signing but Hayden would have to be a one year deal since we have quite a few CBs in now with Bucky comin back so somebody will eventually get cut.....At the right price Tatupu would be a great signing excellent size at 6' 250 LBS for a 3-4 ILB maybe a 3 year deal along the lines of Barnetts 3 yrs 12 mil is more than reasonable while we groom Riley or he could even take Fletchers place down the road in a couple years....Who knows....

Why did Pete Carroll cut him? He played at USC...something must be wrong...any idea?

This is the story that's out there....
Tatupu met with coach Pete Carroll on Saturday night and asked for his release after the Seahawks asked him to take a pay cut, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Tatupu was then cut by Seattle on Sunday morning.

It was announced as a "mutual decision," a line that was regularly repeated by Carroll following practice on Sunday afternoon.

But throughout his explanation, Carroll never gave a clear reason as to why the decision was made to part with Tatupu.
Or it could be because he was scheduled to make $4.35 million in base salary for the 2011 season and needed surgery on both knees this offseason.

There's surgery... and then there's SURGERY. While his injury last year ended his season, I believe this was of the lower case variety. Tatupu is bona fide, and would fit nicely.

Is Seattle in cap trouble?

They were OK right after the lock out ended, but then they went crazy giving
T. Jackson and Alan Branch both $8M for 2 yrs, Robert Gallery $14M for 3 yrs and Sidney Rice $41M for 5 yrs.

After that they talked to Tatupu, since then they've been doing one year deals with their own FAs

I hope we find out a way to keep this LB

I cannot believe they paid Rice that much - big risk IMO

About $10M under the cap

Sign Lofa ~ he's only 28. He had arthroscopic surgery which, for a Linebacker in the NFL, is like having your wisdom teeth pulled (almost everyone has had it).

We need another leader with experience at ILB.

When I first heard about Lofa being released I was all over it, until I did a little research and he hasn't had a good year in three years.

Of we get him at a good price I would be OK with it, but I almost would rather go with what we have.

Better sign him before the freaking Eagles do.

I hope they get Tatupu. His dad was a popular New England Patriot special team star and he spent his freshman season at the University of Maine.

Granted, I think Reily could be a player for us but Tatupu is 28. Even if he starts for a year and Riley is a backup we still have depth and insurance for Fletcher.

Even if we get Tatupu I would think Riley would get lots of playing time

I'm not sure what you consider a good year. He was injured in 2009 but in 2010 he had 88 tackles, a sack, a ff, an int and a defensive touchdown. He also had 6 passes defended. Seems like a very productive year to me. Fluctuations in defensive stats can vary based on how they are used in the system. Personally, this is all I needed to hear from his scouting report (courtesy of Scouts Inc.):
He is a leader on and off the field and sets the tempo for the whole defense with his attitude, performance and effort

You'd sign him because we need more than just 1 good guy at each position. Rocky is probably not coming back. If you add Lofa, you have a quality guy who can step in if either he or Fletcher goes down (Perry Riley or Horatio Blades).

Either way, he's 28, is a leader, and is versatile. London is a machine, but it would be nice to have quality depth.

Just re-signed
