Where should our expectations lye????

As well as many of you I took am looking forward to the 'skins marching out on the field and relinquishing hell on every team that we come up against. But, are my expectations too high. Gibbs is an accomplished coach and Williams had an excelent defence last year. Where does that leave Washington next year?
I would love to say that we are going to be in the nfc championship next year. But, how long does it take for a team to adjust to new coaching? How long does it take for team-mates to bond and understand how each other plays? Will Washington be as fortunate as KC was this year?
These are the questions that i have. I am a person that steps into every season with high hopes. I only know the 'skins legacy of the 80's and early 90's. Thats sets a pretty high bar. Gibbs was the coach but i have to remind myself. He went 0-5 his first season with the 'skins.
Basically, what i'm looking for is some cold hard fact from you guys to support my ever wanting need for the 'skins to be a super bowl contender. Because, last year i thought thats what we were. Atleast for the first four games.

He went 0-5 until he learned that he couldn't just bring the Air Coryell system in and have it work. Keep one thing in mind - he has learned from experience that he has to adapt to his players to some degree.

Also, with Ernie Zampese helping design the offense and Williams throwing everything including the kitchen sink at the offense I would expect the offense to progress rapidly. The defense is always ahead of the offense at this stage of the game - and to be blunt - if they, by the end of training camp, are just beginning to break even with Williams' defense, I will be comfortable going into the season.

I don't expect better than 8-8 or 9-7, but that would be a 3-4 game improvement. If we go better than that, and we could with our talent level I would be ecstatic

Hey, it's never to high with Gibbs. The last ten years have tempered me, but I remember when every year I was saying "Skins are going to the Superbowl this year!" or "Skins are going to the Superbowl again!"

Don't question yourself and let yourself get down because of the last ten years. What Gibbs has brought most of all is the right for all of us to dream again. And if you're going to dream, dream BIG.

i,m still saying that we will go 8-8 with the chance at having a few more wins . we will have a shot at the playoffs this year.cautiously optimistic.i,m just greatful the joe is giving this franchise a little direction once again.

Hey, it's still early. Feel free to dream about parades in the Nation's Capital for the next 5 years. Once the real training camps begin, after the draft and such, let's not fall into the media hype, which tells us we're gonna be unstoppable and stuff; then, we can make educated guesses once the full Gibbs squad is in place. For now, I say, '72 Dolphins will not be poppin'champagne corks this year.

I think that there is alot of pressure to perform big. I just hope that they just go out there and live up to their potential. If we were a team with no talent or terrible coaching i could see it but we arnt. I just want to see them perform. I think that this year we'll go 10-6. With all the aquisitions that we've made, i think that this is a realistic number.

I'd say 5 games to gel in all three phases (O, D, ST)...An experienced coach will get three wins off of gametime decisions...lessee, add one for being a 'Mark', and I'd say 9-7, a tangible improvement.

I'll drink to that!

I still feel like we weren't that far off last year - some bad coaching, some close games. Could go 10-6 or 8-8. I vote 10-6 and in the playoffs.

I swear to God, this is the very last post about 'how we'll do next season' that I will answer. Strike me dead if I lie. This is it. This is the very last one. At least, until the next one pops up. :)
We are a gimme for .500 ball. We're looking fair for 9-7. 10-6 is a slight possibility.
That's it. My crystal ball is clouding up.
I have no hard numbers or team breakdowns to back it up. My enthusiasm is tempered by fear.
My faith in Joe is unshaken, but I want to not dump all the agita of the last 11 years in his lap all at once. There's bound to be some growing pains. One thing you can be sure of is that this will be a better disciplined team, with good enough ST play to win the close ones.

Think about this... Last years Cowboys went to the first round of the playoffs, with little to no roster change, what was the winning factor? Why the coach I would think, the Tuna came in and made it happen for them... So now that we have our true coach back why with upgraded and true "Redskin" talnet that Gibbs hand picks should we not get as far as the playoffs? I have been waiting for to long to not think that we are right at the door waiting to come in...

i am right there with you 79. We should go to the playoffs. From my standpoint, had we scored one more time in everygame last year we would have gone to the playoffs. For sure.
