I don't know if God had any hand in this, but I feel compelled to thank Him anyway. THANK YOU, LORD!!!!!!
I'm actually up in Massachusetts for the summer right now. I can't WAIT to see all of these Patriot fans around here today. He's their problem now!
They had a big issue with no pass rush last year, so Big Al is probably worth some risk for them.

That he's no longer our headache (and that we got more ammo for trading up/building our franchise in the future), but

that it was to a team like the Pats that will probably get something out of him (e.g. Randall Gene Moss). I wanted his career to be a black hole for the crap he put my team through, still hoping for that, just a little less sure it'll happen now.
But don't the Pats run a 3-4 defense?

Wow I really thought the Skin's would be lucky to get a ham sandwich for him. A 5th round pick I'll take it.
This is good addition by subtraction.

I'm surprised he's going to a 3-4 team. Although the Pats play 3-4, 4-3, 2-5, 1-5-5 and all sorts of other lineups, but their base defense is a 3-4. Maybe Albert will learn how to be a teammate in new England.

YES!! YES!! YES!! I almost couldn't believe it when I heard this at 6:45am on WEEI in Boston.
Not only have the Redskins been cured of the CANCER known as Albert Haynesworth, the New England Patriots have been diagnosed with the CANCER known as Albert Haynesworth. That couldn't have worked out better in my wildest dreams.
The Boston sports radio folks are a little shocked. He's going to be a major thorn in their asses, since they don't play a 4-3 defense very much and we know how Al LOVES the 3-4.
I'm happier than a Hog in slop right now.

Haynesworth will probably perform very well in New England. BB seems to get the most out of people. But, it is what it is and he is gone from our team so that is good.
I am glad McNabb and Haynesworth are gone but I can't help think what might have been if those two had played well and followed simple directions. No matter what McNabb is better than Beck (and I agree with trading him) but the cancer analogy is best - we lose a lung to save our life, it is hard to be excited about that.

No he won't. Bill Beliscum isn't going to change his system for ANYONE, and they play largely a 3-4 hybrid defense. I doubt they're looking at paying him $5Mil to play situationally in their occasional 4-3 front. He's going to throw a fit at being required to pass their conditioning test (which is pretty nasty from what I hear). He'll have the same problems in NE that he had in DC. Couldn't happen to a more deserving team either.

Neither one of them was willing to conform to the system. The coaching staff is like the guards at a prison. You do what the hell they tell you to, or you're going to face the consequences. Both of those players are now facing the consequences. Too bad for them. Maybe they should have gotten on board with the program.

Who saw a trade to the Pats coming - a 3-4 team? Obviously, after taking on Randy Moss, Ryan Mallett and Albert, the Pats are becoming the Boystown of the NFL.
One last point, the deal ain't done untll the physical is done. Big Al don't get hurt until after the physical!
The compensation for the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year is a fifth-round pick in 2013...
Haynesworth, who will have to pass his physical for the trade to become official, is scheduled to make $5 million this season.

The Patriots play a lot of four-man fronts, but he's still going to have to play the 3-4. That being said, no one is better in the league at fitting his scheme to his players than Belichick.

Now, how did that go?
Shanny won't find trading partners to trade down...
Shanny won't get anything for McNabb....
Shanny won't get anything but a ham sandwich for Big Al...
And do do all of the above so fast.
Our FO is definitely not perfect, but these are signs that we are headed in the right direction.

He got a 5th round pick in 2013, two years from now. It's good that Big Al is gone but let's not pretend that we got any sort of value given what we paid for him.

Who's pretending? Under the circumstances to
get anything, to include a ham sandwich, is some sort of value. Geez, we should have given them the 2013 draft choice, for helping us avoid the Big Al Camp Drama II.
Oh no, we are going to celebrate this one, period!!!

My guess is that Belichick sees value in Haynesworth as a project more than what he'll contribute on the field. He'll give up a 2013 5th rounder. In the mean time he'll get Haynesworth to contribute some in situational packages. He's banking that Haynesworth gives the Pats one problem free season with a few sacks, maybe a highlight play or two. In 2013 when the Pats surrender that 5th round pick, they'll trade Haynesworth to someone for 3rd rounder. That's my prediction. Typical Pump and dump, create value tactic.

And we get to play the Pats this year. People say that we need to be afraid of Big Al being fired up. Big AL needs to be afraid, it is pay back time for our players for what he put them through last year.

Very little risk. They have a NT and they don't need him to play every down. For what they are paying, it could work out. And if it doesn't they can cut him and be done with it. It's a good move for them. They're also an organization that can handle more issues then we can at this time. We've struggled on and off the field and Al is far more distraction then he will be there. They also if they cut him don't have to explain eating a big cap hit or why they paid a high draft pick. I get the Patriots as a Red Wing fan. Once you're on top you can get away with things teams trying to get there can't.

It's just slightly short of a miracle we were able to even get a worthless 5th rounder for him*.
We had zero leverage for a trade; we didn't want him at all on our team, but also didn't want to cut him and let him choose his destination (Philadelphia).
*Yes, I know that once upon a time, one 6th round pick turned into Tom Brady, but let's not fool ourselves. 5th rounders
have a 20% success rate, according to a 10 year retrospective analysis, so it's not a lot of value.

Yeah, it would be TERRIBLE if he accidentally got chop-blocked and blew out his knee.

I agree. I just think that we could have gotten more value in return for him if a) Shanahan hadn't gone through the whole pissing contest with Haynesworth (i.e., the conditioning test, etc.), which greatly contributed to his lack of trade value and/or b) we had traded him before the draft.

Yeah, right. If Shannahan hadn't stubbornly insisted he show up and play then no one would have known he was a problem...
