Possible Redskins cap casualties
After a year off, the Redskins and every other NFL team will now have to deal with a salary cap. This means that there could be some veteran players released or tradedto create cap space or just to save on some salaries. Here are some players who could get the ax shortly after the start of free agency.

Donovan McNabb (approximate net salary cap savings $4.75 million)–It didn’t work out for a variety of reasons but the good news is that the Redskins will knock nearly $5 million off of their cap number by trading or releasing him.

Albert Hayneswoth ($3.4 million)–Another easy one here. It is fortunate that the Redskins paid him about $21 million of his guaranteed money in a lump sum during the uncapped 2010 season. Otherwise they would have to deal with a huge dead money hit to get rid of him. As it is, it’s just a hole in Dan Snyder’s bank account.

Maake Kemoeatu ($2.5 million)–He wasn’t the answer for the Redskins at nose tackle last season and if they decide not to take the risk that he’ll be able to remain healthy and regain his effectiveness they could decide to release him.

Artis Hicks ($1.4 million)–If the Redskins think that Eric Cook or someone else can provide depth at guard, Hicks could be sent packing.

Phillip Daniels ($1.25 million)–Although he provides great veteran leadership, the Redskins could decide to go younger and cheaper.

I don't see any of them as cap casualties. McNabb & Fat Albert would be leaving even without a cap. Kemo was resigned before the lockout. The others don't make enough to really impact the cao & I think we have a lot of space.

Here's the rest of the list:
Vonnie Holliday ($1.25 million)–See Daniels.

Josh Bidwell ($1.5 million)–He is still on the roster after spending much of last season on injured reserve. It would not be surprising if they looked at his 41.7-yard punting average, his propensity to get injured last season (remember he hurt himself in warmups before the Rams game, forcing Graham Gano to punt), and the salary and decide to move on.

Mike Sellers ($950,000)–The Redskins used a fullback on about a third of their plays last year. If the 2011 game plans call for them to utilize the position less than that, they might wonder why they would pay someone almost a million dollars to play it.

Roydell Williams ($640,000)-Yes, he is still under contract despite the fact that he played 25 percent of the offensive snaps and managed to catch just eight passes.

Sellers may be the only one on this part of the list that makes the team.
Williams won't be needed with all the youth drafted at WR.
Vonnie Holliday will not be back and Bidwell is a toss up

You're right that they may not make the team, but it won't be because of the cap.

It's fair to say that we look like we're in not bad shape as far as the salary cap goes (at least as far as the 'reported' salary cap) and that's a step in the right direction for this franchise

I hope this FO continues to rebuild and try and get as many young guys competeing for positions here - we are still not close and need a lot more parts to ensure a really good offensive and defensive line with decent depth

gone are the big spending days of the Snyder/Cerrato era

age might be a good thing for wine but not for a football franchise

Yep, again the inane media. They like the term "cap casualty." So they use it for anyone cut rather then using it correctly. Just like the other thread quoting a moronic reporter that used the term "bait and switch" because they liked the way it sounded, not because it actually was a bait and switch.

Two of my favorites recently with media stupidity are using "begging the question" wrong and using the word "I" wrong. Though the "I" think goes beyond the media.

Right on point.. its quite annoying to hear them say the same crap over and over
