Just heard on NFLnet that the Skins may move up to get Gabbert. This could be a sign that Dmac is a .....GONER.

I don't know much about Gabbert, but is this really the biggest NEED that we have...........???

IMO this would be a dumb move, we need those picks. Unless they could trade McNabb in order to move up.

If its our # 10 and D McNabb for Zona's 5th and that's it, i would do it immediately. If Gabbert is Shanny's guy, then he needs to go get him. If we have to throw in any other picks we will be leaving ourselves extremely short handed. Too many holes to fill.

It was reported by our buddy JLC so I wouldn't put too much stock into it. If they move at all, I'm betting it will be down and their trade partner would be the Pats.
Peter King says one team already has a deal on the table to move up in the draft and SB Nation thinks it is the Pats.

IMO drafting any QB would be a poor move ](*,). Whom ever we would draft wouldn't stand a chance. & giving up more picks to get a QB would be the ultimate in stupidity.

We have limited resources this year so we must be very careful as to how we use them. "O" & "D" lines would be smart & relatively safe.

This would make sense if it didn't take time to groom a QB. However, it does. Your way not only do we not have a QB but we aren't grooming a QB so down the line even if it works we have a team and no QB.

If they like a guy's potential at a pick we have they should grab him. Particularly since every QB in this draft seems to need to be groomed.

It's a quarterback driven league and if the Skins are convinced that Gabbert is going to be good, they should go get him. Just like they should have gone after Cutler and Sanchez in past years. Look what those guys did for their teams.

I haven't seen many Missouri games, but I'm not convinced Gabbert is potentially elite. And Newton just scares me.

It's unlikely the lockout issue gets resolved in time for the Skins to trade McNabb by Thursday. So we're talking about trading future picks. They'd better be darn sure Gabby is the real deal.

I'd prefer they trade down myself. Perhaps they could trade with St. Louis if Julio Jones is still available at 10, and then even with a team like the Steelers who are rumored to want to jump up and get Pouncey. Skins could potentially add a 2nd and 3rd pick and fortify either of their lines. Then maybe draft Locker or Ponder late in round 1 or early in round 2.

I really don't think that the Redskins will trade up for a QB - there's no QB in this draft that is worth close to what that would cost PLUS I'd be happy if we did not use the #10 pick on a QB no matter which one is available

I'm with you. I'm good if we feel a QB is worth whatever pick we're at, but I really don't want to give up multiple picks for any of them

We're not going to give up the entire draft to fit one position of need. No thanks. BTW - no QB is ready to go NOW and with a shortened offseason, you have to have a guy who can play NOW b/c he's not going to have time to learn the system. That's why I think that Grossman is back next year.

You don't think that whole benching him for Rex Grossman thing was enough? :)

I just hope that Mike is not planning on doing this - that would be crazy

EVERYONE that knows anything about the QBs that are in this draft seems to think that they will NOT be ready to play for at least 1 season - and that was given a normal training camp and regular season prep time

I don't think that Mike and Kyle are looking for a QB OR have been planning on getting a QB in this draft that is ready to go sooner than later this season AT THE EARLIEST

This is why we have been discussing Beck as the only QB that is signed and seems to be the only choice if we don't re-sign Grossman - most here agree that McNabb is gone

btw - there are some here that agree that Beck could in fact be the starter in the first game this year as Beck has himself said that he WILL be the starting QB

the QB situation here is going to be a fun thing to watch for the next few months - especially if we cannot trade McNabb in the near future

Just sayin, but who really felt that Joe Flacco was NFL ready when he was drafted in the 2nd round. He had a decent year as a rookie. Just sayin.

In fact, If I remember correctly, he wasn't pegged to go as high as he did either.

I'm not an authority on this but there are no Flacco and Ryan type QBs in this draft

in case you missed the memo on QBs this year - there is a consensus from the QB gurus that these guys will not be ready to start for a while and maybe should sit for a year or 2

not all Qbs are ready to go and a lot of franchises would do better to hold them back for a year - this draft is filled with QBs like that

I don't think that any of the QBs that Mike is looking to get will be ready to start until 2012 and that is about when we'd need a new QB anyway

For not being an authority you sure are making a definitive statement. None of the "experts" expected Flacco to be able to start year 1 either.

From the USA Today back in 2008...

Most draft experts view Flacco as a possible first-round selection but more likely an early second-round pick. The Delaware product could become just the third non Division I-A quarterback taken picked in the first two rounds since 1984 — following Tarvaris Jackson (Alabama State, 2006) and Steve McNair (Alcorn State, 1995).

"Brian Brohm from Louisville is my guy at No. 2 (at quarterback)," said ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper. "Joe Flacco from Delaware is right in there with Chad Henne. You could go any one of those three at No. 2. If you want the upside guy, it would be Flacco."

There was also consensus in 2009 that Josh Freeman was a "project" qb that would take time to develop. Yet he was starting his rookie year and tore it up in his second year in the NFL. The consensus of draft experts doesn't mean a damn thing. All that matters is what the Skins think. However, since you've already definitively told us what John Beck thinks about his chances of starting next year, maybe you can definitively tell us what Shanny thinks about the available qbs.

man, wouldn't it be great if Beck started, played EXTREMELY well, and we picked up Gabbert who ended up being a stud. We would be in the cat birds seat. Similar to the Pats with Bledsoe, Brady and Cassell. Or the Eagles with McNabb, Vick and Cobb.

au contrair - you are preaching to the choir here - in case you were not aware, I did not think that Beck was going to be "the starting QB for the Washington Redskins in the first regular season game" - I was reminded by fans of John Beck that Beck himself thought he would be the starter

take it to the Beck fan club :)

I like John Beck and hope he can help this franchise, however, I think Mike & Bruce will bring in a QB that they hope can play some QB later this season - I think that this QB will not be rushed into the starting job

I think that they understand that NO QB in the top 10 QBs of this draft is close to being ready to be a starting QB

hopefully Mike gets the future great Redskins QB in this draft and then gives him a season or more to get ready

This is the strategy. I agree with Mike Jones. They will pick at 10 PROVIDED that they do not get an attractive offer to trade down.

The FO's preference is to trade down. But you need an offer to do so. Let's hope somebody is desperate at 10 to help us trade down, or ...

if that does not happen, let's hope that somebody of great value drops down at 10. (wishful thinking)

Ever read a comic called "What If" by Marvel? If they had a sports version my friend, I'd tell them to hire you as a writer.

Lol you picked out Cutler and Sanchez as your examples? Really?

Until this year, Cutler had never had a winning season. His overall record is 35-34. Irreplaceable, right?

Sanchez has thrown 29 TDs and 33 Picks. His team wins despite him, not because of him.

You should have gone with Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, or any other example rather than those two. I guess I should just be happy you didn't use Alex Smith as another "support."

Flacco was pick 18 in the first round, fyi.

I chose those two examples because the Skins were reportedly going after them. They didn't get them, and I think the team would have been better off at QB if they had gotten them. Like it or not, both QBs had great years this year...

The Ryan and Flacco examples don't really apply because teams didn't trade up to get them. You could look at what the Giants did with Eli, they were convinced he was the real deal and mortgaged their future to get him.
