26 players attended the workout

Linebacker Lorenzo Alexander said approximately 30 players attended the workout at a local high school – around 20 on offense and 10 on defense. Coaches are not allowed to attend.
The quarterbacks? John Beck and Rex Grossman, who is a free agent. Albert Haynesworth did not attend.
Linebacker London Fletcher organized the event and took charge of the approximate 70-minute workout. They ran through some drills and then did seven-on-seven work. Alexander said they’re hoping more of the defensive backs show up Wednesday to make the seven-on-seven more effective.“It felt like a workout,” Armstrong said. “My legs are tired after it. It’s a little competition because it’s offense vs. defense and you want to find a way to beat those guys regardless of the situation.”
Alexander said the session wasn’t about gauging who is, or isn’t, in shape.
“Most guys were in shape but we didn’t do enough to really tell if guys have been working out or not,” he said. “Most said they’re doing their own thing. But it’s not about that. We’re not trying to patrol anybody, but if anybody had looked horrible we probably would say something. It was more to get together as a team and having the experience and working on our craft.”
Here's a list of those players who attended

Grossman attended despite not being under contract with the team. His deal expired in January and he is due to become a free agent. Inside linebacker Rocky McIntosh, who also is due to become a free agent, attended the workout as well.
“Those are some great guys. They’re football players, not worried about business side of it,” Alexander said. “They just want to get in some work and play football like we do. We’ve been together. Rocky, especially, is like family, so seeing him didn’t surprise me.”
Other free agent players, Santana Moss and Jammal Brown, weren’t in attendance on Tuesday. Fellow quarterback Donovan McNabb, whose future with the team appears to be rather unlikely, also was not on hand.
The Redskins plan on having a second day of workouts on Wednesday, and more players are expected to attend.

See, that's what I'm talking about

I'm
very glad to see this. This is what a sub .500 team should be doing. I'm also glad to see the leaders of the team doing it in stead of the coaches. Let's just hope this does some good

, after all, it can't hurt

Yeah. Kelly was there today. He could be a big player for us this year if he can stay healthy and get his head wrapped around this playbook.

Dude, don't you think Kelly has had enough time to "wrap his head around the playbook?

Shanny just came to the Skins last year. So no, I don't think Kelly or any current Redskins player have had enough time to wrap their head around the playbook.
Keep in mind that most coaches/players say that it takes roughly 3 seasons to fully install an offense. So being that we're moving into year 2, I would say we're getting there but not close.

OK, I see what you're saying. I was only thinking about how long he's been on the team. I guess M.S. did institute a new playbook. But still, if he wants any chance of making the team he better learn that playbook FAST! Not to mention he better stay healthy.

I think his length and playmaking ability allow him to not know the playbook as much as his ability to stay healthy. I personally would LOVE for Malcolm to get healthy and be a valuable contributor on this team but as the saying goes "Can't make the club in the tub."

I have yet to see him make any plays. Everyone says he has talent & potential but I have yet to see it.
I too would love it if he could contribute, but honestly I have very little faith in his ability to stay healthy.
"Can't make the club in the tub" I friggin love that

. I've never heard that one before. Good one.

That's going to come down to how he's working right now. If he's smart, he's working with the top guy b/c this is his final opportunity to make a push to be our #1. Moss isn't under contract and our current #1 would be Armstrong if we don't resign Moss and cut Kelly. So he has a great opportunity here.

I would venture to say that this is his final opportunity to MAKE THE TEAM! let along be our #1.
Honestly, I think Moss comes back. I think he knows he has a good thing going with us & he'll want to finish off his career in DC. If anyone deserves to "see the money" it's him.
& you know what? I'm totally OK with Anthony Armstrong being our "go to" guy. He's shown enough skill set for me to have confidence in him. The one thing he needs is MORE experience. Give him that & we'll all be asking "Kelly who"?

You have no idea whether he has "wrapped his head around the playbook" or not... I'm, frankly, far less concerned about that than I am his ability to stay healthy. Everything flows from time on the field. If you can't stay on the field, nothing else matters... and nothing else happens.
Word was, both Shanahans were quite high on him... but he just couldn't work.

Give London Fletcher and his Redskins teammates credit for making an effort.
Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports that 30 players showed for the second day of their player-organized “minicamp” on Wednesday. Some flew in from all over the country, like John Beck from San Diego.
“It’s that important,” said Beck. “It’s about coming out here with your teammates and getting better.”
Players from Texas, Florida, and Lousiana flew in for the event, which was organized by Fletcher. The group was deep at certain positions like tight end. It was thin elsewhere.
Jones writes that defensive lineman Kedric Golston had to line up at free safety at one point. Nose tackle Ma’ake Kemoeatu became a receiver so linebacker Rob Jackson had someone to cover.
The minicamp was only scheduled for two days, but plenty of players will stick around and continue to workout together. It’s an impressive show of unity.
We can almost hear it now, if the Redskins make a surprise run to a playoff berth: ”It all started on that high school in Northern Virginia, with no coaches in sight.”

Well... that's pretty much how it began in 1987...
