Portis and Iffy in the ring?

Running back Clinton Portis now says he won't pay safety Ifeanyi Ohalete for the chance to wear No. 26, Portis's old number in Denver. Portis requested a boxing match, with the winner getting the number. Ohalete -- who also rebuffed Chad Morton last year -- declined.

A friggin boxing match!!?? Hey Clinton, you're willing to harm your teammate just for a stupid number that you only wore for 2 years? You wore 28 in college and Iffy wore #26 for 3 years which is 1 more than you. Wear 27 or 30. Just get over yourself!

What if he meant those big gloves that you blow up with air (LOL)? You can't get hurt with them. Or those Hulk gloves?

Exactly (I forgot about them), no one gets hurt with those. Well I bet "the house" on Portis, his neck is thicker than his head, he's built like Mike Tyson.

You would think with all that money Portis got he would have no problem paying Iffy for the Jersey, but thats just Portis's ego talking to him. He just wants to show out and be able to talk junk afterwards.

He offered Iffy money already!

Probably. I think he did offer money but Iffy said "No", that's why he said the boxing thing.
I think it's funny that he held up #26 at the Press Conference, now he's gonna wear #3? I don't even care if he wears a #! Just get at least 1500 yards & 10 TD's!

I think Iffy should keep the #, It's not like Portis has been around all that long.

I don't really think that Portis was serious about having a hard core boxing match, with the winner getting the number. Gibbs and his staff would not have allowed it, and if he and Iffy were to really fight, I'd pick Iffy.
If for nothing else his buddy Matt Bowen would work with him, and be the trainer in Iffy's corner. Portis being the new guy doesn't have nearly as big a possee, and isn't as strong as Iffy.
I think Iffy would knock him out in one punch, although Portis is quick and can probably pack a punch. Don't want to see them fight, but it's an entertaining idea.

I think it was all tongue in cheek personally.

Geez Jake, calm down...
I think that this was in fact, tongue in cheek...
It's not like Clinton wanted to have a bareknuckle boxing match inside of a ring of cars with their lights on in the middle of a rainstorm

"but i bet he needs the number for endorsement deals and the like."
Yeah, if Nike has a Clinton Portis #26 trainer coming out... how dumb is old Clint gonna look wearing a different number?
"didn't he have an action figure coming out this year as a bronco?"
Yes, Todd McFarlane's famous line of sports collectables has a Clinton Portis figure coming out... it happens all the time though, they had a Stephen Davis one when he went to the Panthers...

I can understand wanting to have #26, but if it were me I'd feel weird asking someone else for it. It kinda makes you look like you think you're better than them. If it's offered, then yeah, take it. If not just get another number. After all, the man makes the number, the number doesn't make the man. I say he should be #00 just to be different...

Portis getting his butt kicked might not be a bad thing... Remember how much better Brian Davis got after being dropped by Westy?

Ball players do this number thing all the time. Roger Clemens gave players rolex watches for his number in Toronto and New York...

At first I was Like "Brian Davis?" "Westy?"
Stephen Davis and Westbrook is what you meant...
And even if it would make Portis better wouldn't it also make Iffy worse? ala Westbrook....
We don't want that now do we

Sorry, just pent up frustration. I was guessing (and really hoping) that it was just tongue in cheek.

Don't understand the "Brian Davis" reference, but I guess someone does need a tail-whuppin'to get their act together. Back in Norv's days, Ol'Westy was the enforcer; with Coach Gibbs walkin'the sidelines, he rightfully assumes that role. The increased discipline has got me so psyched!!!

OOPS... Brian Davis was a draft failure (cornerback) a few years back... please forgive my gaffe. I meant STEPHEN...
And I wouldn't worry about it's effect on Iffy... he's already 5 times the player Westbrook was...

A defensive player ought to welcome a bout anytime with an offensive player! They're supposed to be tougher.....notice I said supposed to be...that's the image they should try and portray. Particularly a db vs a tb...give me a break. Iffy should have said, you're on, and if I win I get the # and the $$$.
