He is either going to be a spectacular football player... or a spectacular catastrophe...
If the roll of the dice comes up wrong, some team will suffer the consequences for years.

I hope he is off the board by the time the Skins draft!

I have NO DOUBT WHATSOEVER that he would have been the Draft pick of Dan Snyder and Vinny Cerrato. The PERFECT controversial player to stir the media, attract attention and fans to the Stadium just to see the whole thing come down in flames and burn. That says enough.
If the Redskins pick this self-indulged who-has-proven-nothing-to-anybody-yet guy, I stop following the Team until anew Front Office or new owner comes along. I have had it.
I have faith that Shanny and Bruce will not do that .... or else.

If Cam Newton turns out to be a great football player for somebody else, then so be it. But I don't want him anywhere near the Redskins.

Agreed. He has all the potential in the world, but he isn't worth the risk. There are too many red flags with this kid to use a top 10 pick on him.

TADAAAA.
Which is why I like the kid who went to a Christian school (Dalton) or the other QB getting little attention ... Ponder.

Dalton is a late round guy I think. Ponder has started getting attention after the Senior Bowl and his combine performance. The issue with him though isn't really his ability, it's whether or not he can stay healthy. Shoulder and forearm issues aren't a good sign for a qb.

I hope he is off the board by the time the Skins pick. I want nothing to do with this guy. His attitude, the way he carries himself just irritates me. He comes off as extremely arrogant.
I heard he didn't impress many coaches in the interviews so I think every team will hesitate before they take him. I would rather have Gabbert at 10 if he is there. Or wait until the 2nd to get Locker if he lasts that long.

Ryan Leaf who?

Ponder has demonstrated that the shoulder issue is resolved. The forearm issue was superficial... no involvement of muscle, tendon, cartilage or bone... It's a non issue. Ponder would be good to go... problem is, I don't see us getting him...

Or else MS and BA aren't much different than the idiots we had running this franchise before.........

I just hope we trade down and pick up an extra pick or two unless somebody like Patrick Peterson or Von Miller just falls in our lap which I very highly doubt would happen. We just have too many holes and such little depth.

No sure that will happen. At #10, we are sort of stuck -- unless, as you said, one of the major guys falls into our lap. There just doesn't appear to be one of the can't miss players at #10. It appears almost certain that Gabbert, Peterson, Miller, Quinn, Bowers, Amukamara, Fairley, and Dareus will be off the board by the time we pick. Jones/Green may be there, but anyone whose been paying close attention to recent drafts knows that first round WR are a waste, so I am not sure that anyone will trade up for JJones/Green -- unless it's a team like the cowboys or bengels, but they have earlier picks....

His father and him would get thrown through the meat grinder with the DC media. I can see it now, his father going on 106.7 the fan and ripping the coaching staff, and Cam just saying "I support my dad". Being upset being behind Rex Grossman. Getting in trouble in DC night life, oh yeah and did I mention the DC media which if he were on the Skins, all these quotes would be 3 page stories, and all day radio shows worth of segments. Soo yea....thanks but no thanks

I HAVE NO DOUBT WHATSOEVER that this new FO will be replaced fairly quickly if they bring in Cam Newton to play QB here - maybe ... after the 2011 season
at the latest
I TOTALLY agree that dumb and dumber would have brought him in, and MAYBE even have traded up for him
Cam Newton is NOT HAPPENING - these guys will not take that chance

Me too - I have nothing against him and I really hope he becomes a great QB - just NOT here
we are not close to being a consistently good team and cannot afford to make this mistake

Dag, I like the guy.. I can care less what he says, as long as he puts up numbers. I personally like Ponder from FSU but I wouldn't mind having Cam either but just not at the #10 spot. I feel we can get a QB in another round. Plus you people seem to care more about controversy than players skills. I'll take a loud mouth ignorant SOB who can put up numbers for us and help win us some games anyday.

Problem is that a QB that is "a loud mouth ignortant SOB" will NOT put up the numbers.
They are losers who only care about themselves and their public persona. Again, just look at the sucessful QB's in the league: Brady, Manning, Breese, Rogers... they downplay their greatness... plain and simple.
That #10 spot has to be a sure thing, and Cam-eo has too many personal issues, going way back to before he played at Auburn, to take him at 10.
HAIL.

To me, it's not about whether he can be good or not - it's really simple - we have too many issues and we are not close to being where we need to be - this kid is not fulfilling his potential quickly enough - IF at all
I really think and hope that Cam Newton will eventually become one of the great QBs to ever play the game - I also think and hope this FO will not take that chance
with all that is happening right now, I just hope we have a free agency period and a draft - I also hope we continue to see major changes in players on our roster
we don't need to trade all of our good players but I hope we find a way to move a lot of them and a way to bring in a lot of younger players to make this franchise be full of younger guys eager to play hard and be coached to make the other players around them better
a few great players cannot consistently win against a team full of average players playing really well together
we need to have room to grow and get away from that old mentality "we can be competitive, we just need a few good players"

I like Cam but don't see us getting him, for one reason or another. With that in mind, and the QBs we have on the roster, I see a 4 win season in 2011 (if there even IS a season).
I'd just try to get some value for the pick, trade down out of the first round, and be done with it. Nothing of value will be there at #10, so even a trade is not a given potential. The Skins got too many wins last year and screwed themselves over interim of the draft.

Why would you want to trade out of the first round? That's makes absolutely zero sense. Trading down in the first round, if we could find a trade partner, would make sense. Completely trading out of the first would be stupid.

It has to do with the philosophy I have for First Round draftees. I am of the belief that they need to be able to come in and make an impact at a position of Primary Need, IMMEDIATELY. If there isn't someone at #10 who can do that, I don't see there being anyone there later on in the round.
