Los Angeles soon to have NFL team....???

But first the league must resolve the labor issue with the players and their union.

AEG president and CEO Tim Leiweke said his company has "huge admiration" for the NFL and will wait for a new collective-bargaining agreement before focusing on the relocation of an existing franchise.

Leiweke told The Associated Press in a phone interview that his group is focused on a number of initiatives, including a naming-rights deal for the proposed downtown stadium. He said AEG will "worry about the team at the appropriate time."

The NFL hasn't had a team in Los Angeles since the Raiders and Rams left in 1995. Both AEG and Majestic Realty Co. want to build primarily privately financed stadiums and eventually entice a team to move there. Majestic has the necessary approvals to build in Industry, a suburb 15 miles or so from downtown Los Angeles.

Come what may.....I won't be rooting for the team. I'm a DIE HARD REDSKINS fan. Bleed B&G.

Shouldn't they just move the Jaguars out there? Then possibly change the division to make sense GEOGRAPHICALLY????

:hmm: Dag, SD has a GREAT football following from what I've seen on TV.. that would be a disaster if they did that because isn't SD like at the end of California down south?

Not really. I get the SD radio stations and they can barely fill the seats. Stadium there sucks and is old.

Chargers were originally from LA....so welcome back.

I'll root for the Skins...!!!

I've always liked SD. I thought their uniforms were cool. Then, when Bobby Beathard went out there, I kind of adopted them as my AFC team. It'd suck if they moved.

I'm hoping that SD moves up here instead of Jville. But the city & NFL want two teams in LA. We have the room, money and ability to fill the stadiums. There are currently two real locations being proposed - LA (downtown next to Staple Center) and City of Industry (20 mins east of outside downtown). That would mean a def. re-seeding of the AFC which would probably have SD, Jville, Oakland and either the Bronco's or KC staying in the division. Not sure which team, would move to the AFC South to take Jville's spot though. There's always Miami moving from the East to the South, KC or Denver going to the North and Buffallo ..... uh nevermind. This is getting too complicated.

I actually sat down one day and put it all together.. I'm @ work and the doc is on my home computer. I'll try and look for it to show you how I did and this time I'll do it with Jags up there. Wouldn't need to do anything if SD was to move up north, they could remain in the AFC.

Is that true? The Chargers were once in LA. So that means LA has had three nfl teams it didn't support!

I think SD gets more support than any of the three florida nfl teams. Move one of them to lala land. Florida just doesn't support the nfl. Most of the diehard nfl fans in fortis are snowbirds that root for some northern team.

Yes, Chargers were in Los Angeles in 1960s.... Look at link on right box half way down.

That's odd about Florida and the NFL. College and High school teams are strong in Florida. Many good to great players come out of there.

Downtown Staples center? YIKES...that's a traffic Nightmare waiting to happen.

I don't see much free space or land there. Are they proposing to Bulldoze some old housing tracks???

Just my My 2 cents

I think the NFL's main deal right now is to get the new CBA finished and that almost certainly will include an 18 game season THEN I believe they will not only look at the LA deal but also Europe - these guys are very focused on adding franchises IMO

everything has to do with putting dollars in their pockets

Yes, college football is huge in the south! NFL, not so much.

WRONG - I'm sorry - BOTH college and NFL games are very big events in the bottom half of the USA

Having lived in Georgia, Virginia and my current home of North Carolina, I agree with Jock that the NFL is actually big in the south, but skinsfan#33 is right in the sense that college football is a lot bigger. Particularly the deep south in the SEC. Even in North Carolina where college basketball is king.

You know me, always the peace maker!

or is that piece maker?

College football definitely trumps the NFL in SEC states.*

*Not for me, though; I like the top tier league best.

I will add that football in Texass is unbelievable from high school on up - it's almost a religion down there and I know a lot of people in states like GA, TN etc. etc. are almost maniacs about the SEC games

SD has the small advantage that they were the LA Lancers for a year or two in the early AFL.

Realistically, I don't seem why the NFL needs a team in Tampa, Miami, Tennessee, and Charlotte. (Confession: I always mix up the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Carolina Panthers.)

LA is a giant market...strange that it has been left empty.

It is hard to imagine it went on this long. If LA gets one team, the Jaguars seem like a no brainer. It's a tiny market. But wow, half of LA is way bigger then so many other NFL markets that have teams. I don't see two teams from the South moving to LA though, the South is a growing area. Personally I think the Rams should move back.
