On the blog yesterday J.I. Halsell broke down the market for cornerbacks. One of the guys he mentioned happened to be former Redskin Champ Bailey. He's 32 now, and might benefit from a switch to safety, but couldn't the Redskins use a respected veteran to mentor guys on a defense that needs plenty of work?

Mike Shanahan coached Bailey for five seasons in Denver, so he's familiar with the professionalism and talent that Champ brings. Maybe Washington would be a good fit? I've been an advocate of investing in young players over veterans, but could see making an exception for Bailey, at the right price.

How about you? Would you prefer the Redskins re-sign Carlos Rogers and his bad hands?

I wouldn't mind him coming in to tutor Barnes, Westbrook, and the other young guys on D. He isn't going to be cheap, but he could play CB for another 2 years, then move to safety. I would love seeing Champ back in Burgundy and Gold.

Hail Yeah bring back Champ!! He was my favorite Redskin when he was here. They should probably bring him back just for that alone, but I agree with the other upside posted above as well.

I'm not really convinced from those numbers that Champ brings enough to justify the salary he will likely demand. Carlos may not catch anything but he is pretty good at keeping the opposition from catching the ball. Guess it depends on how much each player wants ...

$$$. I personally wouldn't like us to give him as much as he'd require to come here.

As long as he gets back his old # 24 so I can bust out his jersey from the bottom of my "redskin jersey drawer" I'm in!!

Yea, sorry about that. I am used to a different forum software and the tags I used here don't seem to automatically align the columns. Maybe a staff member can fix it or tell me what to do the next time.

:D My thoughts exactly. Bring him back, it can't hurt to have a good corner teaching Carlos how to catch.

I said something about this earlier, he was coaches by Shanny, and I remember reading somewhere that he loved playing for Bob Slowik, who was the defensive coordinator in Denver, and now is our secondaries coach.

Plus he is familiar with the team, area and tradition. I would LOVE to bring him back as the #2, but we would need to get a discounted price. He could command alot of coin, hopefully having Slowik and Shanny will get us that discount.

He could start at CB or FS for us next year. That would be phenominal is u ask me.

Sadly, Carlos is never going to learn how to catch. If he has a hard time holding onto the ball it would be one thing, but he catches like an excited two year old trying to catch a ping pong ball

He needs to practice volleyball instead. It seems the only time he can catch it is when he bats it up to himself.

Agreed, but we will probably never get to see those Vball talents as I am confident he will move on this offseason and give new fand heart attacks when he drops INTS in the 4th qt

I wonder if Champ would even want to come back here? Maybe with Shanahan I guess.

You have that right. Most people forget that Bailey was not going to stay with the Redskins no matter what. He made that clear several times.

Which is why I don't care to see him in B&G ever again. He left... it was HIS choice to do so, and in the process he handicapped the greatest coach the team has known. Made the transition that much more difficult...

Had he stayed, I think it could have been very different. For the want of a nail, a shoe was lost... What Greg Williams could have done with him, AND with ST...

CT, that's one of the downsides to having TALENTED, STAR-CALIBER players on your team. You have to deal with the egos from time to time.

That's better than having a team full of zombies who have no personality or star power, like some other teams I could mention. At least that's my opinion on it.

I wouldn't mind seeing Champ back in DC. Especially if it meant that Los got Los-t.

So... I take it that you didn't get your fill of Haynesworth?

I would have cut "Big Al" LAST FEBRUARY. There's a difference between having an ego and insubordination.

What I can't stand is coaches and players who have no personality at all. Guys who give the most worthless answers in every press conference. The ones who just aren't worth even listening to.

It's the difference between a Bill Bellichick press conference and a Rex Ryan press conference. There's no reason to pay any attention to a Bellichick presser whereas Ryan's are "can't miss tv" for Jets fans.

so you would rather get rid of a younger under 30 Carlos Rogers who is a very underrated cover corner whose only real problem is his inability to hold onto interceptions for a 32 year old corner going on 33 who over values himself..

we have the oldest roster in the NFL and want to go younger as stated by the head coach but you suggest we let a young talented corner leave for another aging over the hill vet who will demand an unrealistic contract

In a single word.... YES!!! In multiple words.... HECK YEAH!!!!

Cornerbacks MUST be able to catch the ball. It's a PRE-REQUISITE. At least where I come from. Los' inability to catch balls makes him as expendible as a used napkin in my mind.

I have little to no interest in watching a team of rookies and guys who have not PROVEN they can both PLAY and SUCCEED at the NFL level. I absolutely HATE the NFL Draft. It's a massive waste of time in my mind. I'd trade away every draft pick we have if I had my way. That's also why I abhore the NFL Salary Cap. It keeps teams from being able to build a roster of talented veterans and forces teams to utilize rookies and unproven players to stay under the cap.

Though I'm still looking for that "young, talented corner" you're talking about.

Dude you should hope he does change his number. Then you can have one of the "ultra rare old school" 24 Jersey's. :D

Overpaid aging veteran whose prime is in the past. Absolutely, bring him in, but for some reason, I get this weird deja vu feeling, like I've experienced this before. No matter, I'm probably just not over my cold yet.

You got halfway there by using the "[code]" tag.

What you'll need to do next time (or do now by editing your other post) is use the "preview" function. Your stats will then appear as they will when you post them, and you can play around with the spacing until you get it right.
