It's Not Over Yet

According to multiple sources, including Redskins defensive end Vonnie Holliday, Albert Haynesworth will appear in person at Redskins Park on Monday in order to meet the requirements of CBA Article XIV, Section IX. Teams can seek a forfeiture of signing bonus money only if a player willingly takes action that undermines his ability to contribute in either preseason or the regular season. Of course, the season is over on Sunday. With the suspension and the non-injury grievance, Albert is playing it straight. Let's hope we can survive this without yet another media circus.

There is NO WAY the Skins are getting any of that bonus money back unless they cut a deal with him to release him early. Falcons couldn't get Vick's bonus back and the Wizards couldn't get Arenas' back. Shanahan and Allen would be wise to not bash Haynesworth to the media because you know that Haynesworth's agent will fire back and Donovan's agent will be watching closely to add his two cent and then it will be another media circus, but then again, maybe Shanahan likes the circus.

I'm all for whatever makes this guy 'uncomfortable' - I hope we just flat out cut him but then again I'd like to get something for him too
I know that it's highly unlikely that no other franchise is going to be interested so, in a peverse way, I hope that his NFL experiences from here on out are a reflection of the amount of effort he gave while wearing B&G

Unless a team is willing to do like Tennessee and make him the focal point of their defense and let him freelance, he will always be a poorly disciplined, poor technique, poorly conditioned D lineman who will give you a few good plays when he wants to. There is only one team willing to do that and that is Tennesee. Let's hope that Fischer is not fired. That is our only chance of getting something for him. Even his formerDC Jim Schwartz, HC of the Lions, didn't want him for the Lions. He said he didn't want Haynesworth's attitude spilling over on to Suh.

I'm not sure I could say Albert has meet the level of "playing it straight." There is so much he could have done to achieve mediocrity and be above the ability for the Skins to recoup anything. You should read what Nik wrote on Haynesworth, it sounds like we can go for something. He's certainly been the site guru on contracts. After a year of just flat out insubordination and failure to honor his contract or act in good faith over and over and over, I don't see how showing up changes anything at all. But I guess we'll see.
As for the media circus, since that's beyond our control I wouldn't worry about it. Worrying about things one can't control is a waste of time and energy. If the media wants to circus, they will circus.

No argument from me on any of the above, however, Mike Shanahan exacerbated the situation at every opportunity and devalued a player who easily might have brought a 2nd round pick had Shanahan attempted to play the game enough to keep up the appearance that Haynesworth has value. Contract issues and non-injury grievances aside, we are likely to get nothing for Haynesworth and McNabb, two players who should have been worth a considerable amount in trade value. That is the only disappointing portion in my mind. Albert clearly doesn't fit the system and doesn't care to try, so from that standpoint to hell with him.

Really? Are you trying to tell us that the Skins didn't try to trade Albert during the off-season? No team was willing to give a second for Albert and that was before the circus during training camp. You may have forgotten, TCIYM, but the Haynesworth was sent home from practice by the Skins for trying to start a mutiny against Greg Blache. After the season, Albert criticized how Greg Blache used him in the 4-3. Albert played less than a full schedule of games (12) in 2009 which was usual for him. Do you really think the HCs on other teams didn't take note of this ?
Really (this one is for McNabb)? Did you see teams beating down the doors trying to get McNabb when it was announced that he was on the market for the Eagles? Teams were aware of the negatives of McNAbb. McNabb got on the field and stunk it up. That is where his value dropped.

Let's not forget Brandon Lloyd. He got a pay raise WHILE he was still under contract AND he cost us a 3rd and 4th round draft choice. Archuleta's 2nd spot is in danger.

I meant Haynesworth was potentially worth a 2nd before all the drama became a media circus. There are reasons why we never hear publicly about personnel issues with good teams. I'd like to think that a philosophy the Redskins should adopt. McNabb is worth a 2nd to a team that understands he is what he is. He isn't worth the two picks we gave up for him when he doesn't fit the system. That was simply a poor personnel decison, and not McNabb's fault. He brings what he brings. The same things Eagles fans harped on were the things Redskins coaches and fans harped on. I also submit not many starting QBs would have success with Joey Galloway and Roydell Williams but I digress ... I'd really like to see an end to the public trials of what should be internal personnel issues. As of now we will be fortunate to obtain a 4th round pick for either player.

I suspect that other teams knew all about Hayneworth's work habits. There are no big secrets in the NFL. There are coaches and GMs who ignore what's known about a player, but still no secrets.
Which makes Cerrato...what??

Yea well at least both of those guys TRIED. Plus I don't remember the numbers but don't think the contract amount was near AH. They also werent divisive, disruptive, and dysfunction causing D-Bag's.

Here is the quote: It actually credits Martin Mayhew the General Manager saying it, but you can bet it came from Schwartz who knows Haynesworth first hand from the turmoil the D line coach Jim Washburn described in his interview with Jason La Confora shortly after the Redskins signed him.
The Detroit Lions, once believed to be interested in trading for Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, no longer consider that an option, a team source said Wednesday. The Lions had internally discussed trading for Haynesworth before April’s draft, but that’s not an option now after the team used its first-round pick on defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. Lions general manager Martin Mayhew has serious concerns about the kind of influence that Haynesworth could become, according to the source. “Even though Suh is his own man, we don’t want any negative influences around him,” the source said.

So why is the quote attributed to "the source" as opposed to Martin Mayhew?

Obviously the writer did not hear the quote because Mayhew would not say something like that in public. He obviously could not reveal the identity of the one who leaked what Mayhew said. Do your deductive reasoning to figure out if the source is credible. The truth is the Lions whose coach was the DC who ok'd Haynesworth to freelance in Tennessee did not want Haynesworth and SURPRISE, this was before your media circus that you claim Shanahan created in training camp. According to you it was the media circus created by Shanahan that caused Hayneworth to be worth less than a 2nd round pick when the truth is no team wanted him before the draft, during the draft or after the draft or even before training camp and the word was the Skins were asking for a 2nd and maybe even third. So you can bet, when an "All-Pro" caliber talent like Haynesworth is not wanted by his former coach, that the article is valid. Truth is you cannot accept the truth that Haynesworth devalued himself his first season in Washington, by clashing with Blache and getting sent home for trying to cause a Mutiny. Truth is you are not smarter than all the HCs and DCs out there who are quite aware of the truth about Haynesworth. The truth IS:
"YOU can't handle the truth!" - Colonel Nathan R. Jessup

...and Martin Mayhew was a CB under which defensive coach for which HC and which team?
(Hint: one of the coaches is in the HoF; the opposite CB is in the HoF; and we are devoted to that team.)
