Can some tell me what the heck this is...? It seems like past teams are put into a super computer to see who "wins" the match up....very bizarre.

But the 91 Redskins look strong....hehehe

It seems that the top team would win every game through the season, since they play each game 10,000 times and take the average. Still, it's a cool idea. No way was the '92 Cowpie team better than the '91 Skins, though.

Not an average. It works something like this.

Let's say you run 48% of the time on first down. You run 10,000 sims all using probabilities like that. In some sims you run on 39% of your plays. In other you run 56% ... or whatever. The 10,000 sims give 10,000 different box scores but one (+ or - some error) appears more often than all others. They use that one. So Ryp throws 3 picks in a certain sim but the box score is most likely and is used as the representatve of the 10,000 and they use that sim. I doubt Ryp averaged 3 picks in 10,000 sims.

accurately predicted Obama's electoral totals by running a zillion sims. McCain won in some sims but that outcome was not likely. A simple avearage would have yielded a closed outcome prediction. The outcome most often produced by sims gave a much more accurate prediciton.

People that remember my posts know I'm a supreme "sky is falling" kinda guy. haha But the 1991 Redskins were without a doubt in my mind 1 of the top 5 teams of all time. Best O-line of all time. Defense was just sick and nasty with Petibone running it and special teams with a young Brian Mitchell was awesome. They should have gone undefeated that year but a hail mary at the end of the first half vs. the lowly 'Boys stopped their 11-0 run and Gibbs rested everyone vs. the E-girls.

I beleive your memory is pretty much on and I agree with the quality of that team. No real weaknesses and many strengths. I always thought it and the Cowboy team that followed were the best two I ever saw. They would hold up today with their size and they were deep as hell. Petibon seemed to be able to tighten the screws during the game and by the 4th quarter he had taken away everything. We turned Thurman Thomas into a blocking back and the K-Gun was done. BTW - I always thought Monk deserved to go in as much or more than Kelly. Kelly was a pretty good choke artist. In fact, they blew it against the 'Boys the next year - horrible end zone pick at the end of the half. Maybe that Cowboy team was not as good as I thought after all.

I really wish that we had the internet then like we do now. I was in New England then (and still here) and there was zero coverage so I really missed that season except for the nationally televised games. It would have been fun to really experience that season. Still I held an epic Superbowl party with my 10 month old son in a Redskins Jersey in my arms and I barely remember the end of the game

I remain faithful and anticipate another epic season. Its gonna (ITS GOTTA!) happen soon!!!

Amusing stats, and pretty much true to reality. Recall that the '91 team beat every splashy gimic offense, like the run&shoot and the Buffalo hurry-up.

The Atlanta game was so bad that Rypien asked to be taken out in the third quarter when he was only a few yards shy of Sammy Baugh's single-game yardage record. The Redskins were that far ahead, and Rypien saw no reason to run up stats.

The NFC Championship game was over in two plays: (a) Charles Mann made his blocker evaporate and ran past Sanders to annihilate QB Erik Kramer for a ten yard loss and a fumble. (b) Redskins scored on the next play, and game was over. The same Detroit offense had bamboozled the Cowboys defense the week before, leading to the most loquacious pre-game talk ever by Richie P.

Asked, "How can you stop Detroit?"

Answered, "Well, we won't do whatever Dallas did".

Awesome team.

Ryp was encased within a virtually impenetrable fortress most of that year. Add to that his game management skills, and strong arm, and he looked just awesome that year.

That was one AWESOME football team.

I feel pretty good about this simulation because I always thought the best 2 teams I ever saw were these 2.

A few other things about Ryp:

The year before he led the league (in a bad way) in fumbles per sack. His fumble total pretty much equaled his sack total. He and Gibbs solved it and they almost couldn't lose.

Before the SB all the 'Skins agreed to honor a paralyzed player (Utley??) with 2 thumbs up while being introduced. Only Ryp remembered to do it. When I saw that I thought "He's gonna have a great game." He was the MVP and deserved it.

One last thing. Monk scored an early TD but was deemed out of the back of the endzone. He stepped on the back line with his 2nd foot ... but his heel hit inbounds before his foot flattend out. Why isn't that a catch? Wouldn't they call it a catch if a 2nd toe landed in before the foot flattened? Shouldn't they?

Yes, Monk's catch should not have been overturned on replay. The NFL came out and said as much after the game. Didn't matter anyway. No way the Skins were going to lose that game.
