Kevin Swayne signed

ESPN.Com has Kevin Swayne, Jets WR , listed as signed by the Redskins. Is this something I missed in the week? His stats are average. He has played in 15 games each of the past 3 seasons but started few, has an average of 15.5 yards per reception and 1 TD. If we have signed him Joe must have seen something he likes and Mr L Coles must have given him a personal recommendation.

this might not be very good for Mr. McCants

Maybe I am getting old and forgetful, but I don't recall anything about this either. I also wouldn't be surprise if ESPN got it wrong.

I still want McCants.

This was reported on Redskins.com at about 3:00.

Swayne was brought in for depth, not to challenge McCants. I don't think he's good enough to supplant Darnerien at #3.

Jake, do you think it is possible McCants can take Gardners spot at number two? I hope so cuz I for one am tired of dropped balls!!!!!!!!

I think it's very possible. If Darnerien proves himself and steps up his game big time, he could be our number two. But, as of right now, I think Gardner has the #2 spot in his hands. (Unless he drops it ROTFALMAO )

Swayne will be the 4th or 5th receiver at best.. he's a primary special teams guy and occasionally will get the ball. He and Salave'a are good backup, special teams signings. McCants will challenge for #2.. if someone doesn't sign him to a fat deal first.

Rod Gardner is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
Times better than McCants, can we stop this lame argument? I can understand him being a hometown boy... but sheesh, Taylor Jacobs is better than he is, McCants is fighting for the 4th spot IMO and is no where near #2 quality

I have to say that I agree with you. Gardener definetly doesn't have the best hands in the league but he is vastly better than McCants. I would rather see Coles, Gardner, and Jacobs.

Are we talking about ball drops??? He is not better. McCants is bigger, more physical and drags defenders. His size makes him hard for defenses to defend. Gardner sure can't block better.

no, gardner is MUCH better...it's pointless to even argue.

I think Gardner is better, but I don't think he is MUCH better, let alone 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times better. Joe Gibbs says every job is up for grabs, so I can't see how it is pointless to argue. Time will tell...

I hope we have some nice comp this year. Gardner is proven. McCants is nice and will really have to fight for his keep.

We shall see. :)

Also, keep in mind that, as Redskin fans, we've become acclimated to coaches picking up players they favor from other teams that they used to coach with. Scott Turner, Taylor Jacobs , etc. Maybe Gibbs sees something in this guy that says he can play ST, WR and won't embarrass our team with fumbles or theatrics.
Hmmmm.

Some guys are just better suited to be a #3 WR .I think McCants is like that, not sure how well he do as the #2 WR. I like the best of both worlds...RG at #2 with Dm in the slot...I like our chances with DM vs. the other teams #3 CB
