Manny Pacquiao...the Pride of Philippines

The Philippines has had a mixed bag of contributions to this planet:

Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos
corruption throughout politics
Massive typhoons and hurricanes
over 7000 islands, large and small
....the list goes on

But its best ambassador to the world is Manny Pacquiao....ugh, I mean, Congressman Pacquiao. Yes, he won a seat in Congress in his district in southern Philippines.

He's a fighter, a singer, a congressman, a philatropist, a man of the people.

Last night, he overwhelmed Margarito in Cowpuke stadium:

ARLINGTON, Texas — Manny Pacquiao proved beyond a doubt Saturday night what most people believed coming into his super welterweight championship fight against Antonio Margarito – that size doesn't matter as much as speed and quickness. And heart.
Pacquiao, 17 pounds lighter than Margarito at the opening bell, had too much of everything for Margarito and won going away at Cowboys Stadium before a raucous crowd of 41,734 and extended his record eight different weight divisions in which he has won world championships. Nobody else has more than six.

Pacquiao (59-3, 39 KOs) put on a boxing clinic, dominating the fight from start to finish, landing combinations at will as Margarito could not protect his face. By the end of the fight, Margarito's face was a bloody, swollen pulp. But he never gave up.

"I was looking for a chance to stop the fight in the 10th round," said Pacquiao. "But Margarito kept fighting back."

In the 11th round, Pacquiao said he asked the referee to stop the fight. "My opponent looked bad, I wanted him to stop it," Pacquiao said. " I said, 'look at his face. ' I didn't want to damage him permanently. That's not what boxing's all about."

Margarito (38-7, 27 KOs) said he kept on fighting because "I'm a Mexican and there's no way I was going to quit. I fight until the end."

............Margarito is tough, but he didn't have enough. Maybe he needed some "plaster of paris" in his glove.....hehehe

And what is wrong with 7,000 islands? I would argue the opposite. The RoP is almost UNIQUE in that regard. Those islands are a blessing in many ways.

Manny is pound per pound, without the shadow of a doubt, the best boxer in the world right now. He has accomplished feats that NOBODY else in the history of the sport has achieved.

Margarito is one of the toughest, strongest and most courageous fighters that you can find and kudos go to him for not quitting when he had ample justification and opportunity to do just that. Respect to him.

My concern is different ToJ, I think that it is not a good idea for Manny to have entered politics ... at least not now.

RiC...I'm from there and I know you've been there.... so I would ADD:

Beautiful beaches
Beautiful women
Great Food
Nice Sunshine
7000+ islands that are hard to come together and be ONE politically
7000+ islands that shelter from massive tidal wave as they crash and dissapate
.........and fiery little guys who can BOX and fight.
the list goes ON and ON

as for Politics, Manny's BIG heart wants to right the wrongs of the Republic.

I want to see that Floyd fight with Manny soooo bad but at last it'll never happen. That idiot Floyd's legal problems will keep him out of boxing for a while and I fear that Manny will call it quits to pursue his politics full time. Too bad though, that would've been the best fight we've had in a looonnng time. Oh, and Floyd is a better BOXER but I don't know if Floyd can handle Manny's style of "street boxing".. heck, I'm not even sure Floyd could take Manny's hits!!!

Dag gone it we'll never know but I'm a Manny fan and unless he fights someone from the DC area, I'll always root for him.
