Hey guys, I just got done listening to the Coach Gibbs press conference on redskins.com and he announced Trotter was not going to be attending camp and that they'd given him permission to seek a trade.
Coach also talked about Brunell/Ramsey, Portis, and a host of other issues.
If you missed it, they will archive the conference and you can listen to a replay later tonight.

Wow! I thought we were going to keep him!!!He is gone.
Did they say why??????????????

I am shocked. I guess thats why we were trying to sign another LB. Well, he wont be cut. The only way he isnt a Redskin is if he is traded. He is too big of cap hit even if we wait until after June 1st he will cost us too much next year.

Coach didn't say why. Just typical coach-speak. You know, better for him, better us.
He never made it onto the practice field. They told him not to show up today. It must be something they saw in the film room when they did the full team evaluation.

I think the cap hit is the same whether he's traded or cut. The only thing they have to account for is the signing bonus in either case. If they hang on till after June 1, the remainder of the signing bonus is split between two seasons.

all the linebackers that the redskins have seen the past few weeks have been outside backers (Holdman, Short, Favors)...i wonder if they have something up their sleeves only name that i have heard us interested in that can play in the middle is Barrow but i thought he was as good as gone to some other team

man, that sucks...but that could mean more draft picks. and they asked in the press conference if Kevin mitchell could start and gibbs said they like him. so who knows. but with a trotter trade, we could get a draft pick that could be big!

Not sure what to make of this - I felt sure he would still be a skin this year. Will the elevate Mitchell, get someone new? Got to trust in Gibbs - he has a plan.

Guys, I've said it before and I'll say again, there's nothign wrong with having Kevin Mitchell as a starter. I would feel just as comfortable with him as a starter as I was with Trotter.

jake, that's what joe seems to be saying here...
"When asked if Mitchell could be a permanent replacement for Trotter next season, Gibbs said: “We like him. I think everything that you have at that position, you take a look at it. And then you evaluate all of your other players."

Mitchell is a good, quality player. And he also is a good Special teams player and a veteran. All qualities Gibbs likes.

Well, I guess my role as GM is safe!

I liked Trotter....kind of dissapointed.
More inconsistency for the defense....
guess you just have to trust Gibbs

Nope no draft pics are coming the skins way, no one is gonna be that stupid like Synder and trade for a guy that will be released anyway. See Gibbs has to deal with salary cap issues now.

You know, Cowboy fans are so upset at the skins for what we did to them so many years. Thats why they always trash talk us. If they had a loyal fan base like the skins then they wouldnt always run their mouth. Kinda tough when your rival is the richest team in football history. Good luck to the cowboys next year but if you look at it logically with the players that we have aquired at this point. Performance wise, were on top.

Trotter would probably rework his contract with a nice signing bonus. I wonder if someone might want him...

draft picks would be nice, trotter is totally replacable.

Trotter at his best in the right scheme could have been a monster - I still wish we could have seen what he was capable of under Williams - you just don't know what is talked about in the locker room and coach's office to have them cut someone like him...

But why are they even trying to get rid of trotter he is an excellent linebacker i just dont get it ?

he might be yapping, might not fit the scheme, might be worse off with his old injury than we think.
For all that it is probably just the fact that he didn't perform as well because he wasn't supported well by a line showing he wasn't the all star we thought when we picked him up. I liked him, but they had to know something we didn't in order to take this big hit.

I think Greg Williams must not of liked what He saw with Trotter and Gibbs must have agreed with Him. The way the coaches look at film they must have seen things they did not like.

I agree. Last year was terrible for him. That was his year to step up. If i remember correctly, they took responsabilities from arrignton and gave to trotter b/c he was to have been better in say attacking the QB. Thats why arrington's sack numbers were not as good.

Remember how Iffy was being accused of going down the wrong gaps - following Trotter? Maybe it was Trotter going down the wrong gaps and the idiot announcers (Clownsworthless) pointing to the wrong guy cause Trotter was a name?
I would imagine that the coaches have play information and would have seen that.
