NFL Notebook: League looks into Favre scandal
Monday, October 11, 2010
The Associated Press
The Randy Moss trade has become a sidebar to the evolving scandal involving Brett Favre and his alleged inappropriate messages and photos sent to former Jets sideline reporter Jenn Sterger in 2008.
The story, broken by the website Deadspin.com, gained steam throughout the week and serves as a juicy subplot to their Monday night game against ... you guessed it, the New York Jets.
Favre, who turned 41 Sunday, has played his entire career in the spotlight, but he now finds himself in an uncomfortable situation as he prepares to face his former team with an NFL investigation into his possible off-the-field transgressions hanging over his head.
Multiple outlets reported that the NFL is going to "fast track" its investigation into the matter. However, the league appears to be going into stealth mode when it comes to this situation.
Asked Sunday morning whether the NFL would acknowledge if and when it discusses this matter with Favre or whether the investigation indeed was being "fast tracked," league spokesman Greg Aiello responded, "We are not commenting further at this point. The matter is under review."
The investigation focuses on whether Favre violated the NFL's personal conduct policy when he allegedly made inappropriate sexual advances to Sterger when he played for the Jets. Sterger reportedly has said she will cooperate with the investigation. The Jets also have said they are cooperating with the league.
Deadspin also reported that two massage therapists who worked for the Jets received inappropriate text messages from Favre that season.

I really hope this isn't true. Favre has received deserved criticism for his offseason waffling, but he's also a well known family man and has generally kept his image clean after he sobered up. I'd hate to see this turn out to be true.

I get your point... JSPB... but generally, it's a good idea to find out if there is any reciprocity before committing to electronic text...
FFA... I hear that... and hope you're right, but I suspect there is some documentation...
You'd think that folks would learn after Tiger's debacle... there is a direct correlation between the visibility of the celebrity, and the number of people looking for dirt.

Didn't this actual event occur like 2-3 years ago when he was still ON the Jets?

That's the allegation, Vet...

This would also be a nice way to get her name in the paper... a model likes publicity.

That doesn't explain the massage therapists. I'm willing to wait for the investigation to pan out to condemn him, though.
To me, the timing seems a little weird. Why did everyone wait for two years, and the week before the Vikings play the Jets to bring this up?

I figured, but that's not what I meant by "works for me."

I doubt very seriously that this happened. How convenient this is for it to come out before the Monday night game against the Jets
