He is a back up, bench warmer, nothing more. He'd maybe play well in the CFL.
He is now warming up the pine bench in Oakland. Nice guy, but how we EVER stuck with him for 4 years is beyond me....

Thats twice we hve managed to stitch the raiders up with a QB deal ...
he should have gone to the Colts , no pressure there, just be a backup and collect the win bonus curtosey of mr Manning.

True, though not as good as the first time. A 4th rounder's not likely to turn into a beast like Jim Lachey

How many current Skins get as many threads as JC?

Come on Frank, there is no doubting the fact you are a true fan, but eat crow and be done with it. JC is just not a good QB and the OAK situation is how he should have been treated in DC. We literally WASTED 4 F-ING YEARS with JC.
His brief time in OAK has shown that he makes the OL worse due to his slow release, inability to make decisions and read defenses --- and that dumping the ball off wasn't a product of the offense. Regardless of what he thinks, he isn't a starter. I literally thought I was taking crazy pills after watch JC with the skins and people supporting him....as they say, talent rises.......

Give him time, the next coming of Jim Plunkett for the Raiders just needs to learn the system.
JC will be return...mark my words!!!

The only QB who is effective in Oakland's system is a true running QB - see Gradkowsky. That' guys all over the field. JC was taught to hang in the pocket and get rid of the ball when either the WR was open or when he felt pressure. Pressure has been his nemesis. He doesn't feel it and the two teams he's played on have SUCKED at protection. Him sitting is the best thing that could happen for his career because being a battering ram for additional games isn't helping anyone in the health dept.

I was dumbfounded that a team with one of the worst OLs would pick up a QB that has shown a tendency to sit in the pocket and hang on to the ball forever.
I seriously wish JC the best, but he needs to work on that if he wants to be a viable starter.

He would be a good QB on a team with a good offensive line. I think that at this point in his career, he is set up to be a game manager who won't turn the ball over, won't take risks, and will just run the offense. But again, he needs to be protected.

to sit back and "wish" to be protected by Oline.....is NOT enough to make it in the NFL. There is always the league up north....CFL

Now they've put a gag on him
While Gradkowski faced the cameras and answered questions outside by the practice field Thursday about being the new starter, Campbell politely declined to be interviewed when approached inside.
He said he would do it, but was asked by the team not to talk to reporters. Other players stayed clear of the locker room during the 45 minutes when the media is allowed in

I know this is an old thread, but, wasn't it you mark that posted the pictorial evidence way back showing Campbell passing to underneath guys, with deeper routs (still in view) open .... several of them?
Well, the latest on Campbell with the Raiders is exactly what you and I had been saying all along ... and now Cable even said it ....
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d8 ... coach-says The Raiders didn't complete a pass in the second or third quarters and had just three after the first quarter. Two came on back-to-back throws, a short pass that Zach Miller turned into a 22-yard gain, followed by a tipped ball that he caught with a dive for a 26-yard gain.
That pass was the only downfield throw that Campbell completed all day. Every other pass was caught less than 10 yards away, including three behind the line of scrimmage.
"I think the plays are there," Cable said. "I think it shows up on film that they were there, but we're just not executing, whether it's a throw or whether it's a route."
The reason why this Campbell thing won't die is because of the denial that was always present (and still is) refusing to admit that most of Campbell's difficulties with the Redskins were his own lack of ability to make plays. And the experience the Raiders are now having are EXACTLY the same experiences and difficulties here.
And as quirky and strange as Zorn certainly was ... in retrospect, he was dealt an un-winnable hand with Campbell as his QB.
It puts things in perspective when you look at the fast start the Redskins had under Zorn in 2008, going 6-2 to start the first half of the season ... as it was a combination of real strong running from Portis, and three or four competent games from Campbell, only to finish 2-6 for the second half.
Had Campbell been a competent QB ... the Redskins could have limped into the playoffs in 2008 if only they had managed to score a few points and finish 4-4 for the second half of the season.

Strategies for dealing with a dead horse:
1. Buy a stronger whip.
2. Change riders.
3. Say things like "This is the way we always have ridden this horse".
4. Appoint a committee to study the horse.
5. Arrange to visit other sites to see how they ride dead horses.
6. Rewrite the standards for dead horse performance.
7. Appoint a "tiger team" to revive the dead horse.
8. Create a training session to increase riding ability.
9. Compare the state of dead horses in today's environment.
10. Change the requirements declaring that "this horse is not dead".
11. Hire contractors to ride the dead horse.
12. Harness several dead horses together to increase speed and pulling power.
13. Declare that "No horse is too dead to beat".
14. Provide additional incentive funding to increase the horse's performance.
15. Do a CA study to see if contractors can ride it cheaper.
16. Purchase a software product to make dead horses run faster.
17. Declare the horse is "better, faster, and cheaper" dead.
18. Form a quality circle to find uses for dead horses.
19. Revisit the performance requirements for horses.
20. Say this horse was procured with cost as an independent variable.
21. Promote the dead horse to a supervisory position.
22. Shorten the track.
23. Establish Benchmarks for industry dead-horse leaders.
24. Gather other dead animals and announce a diversity program.
25. Put together a spiffy PowerPoint presentation to get planners to double the dead-horse R&D budget.
26. Get the horse a web site.

Hey ... I'm being serious ... I'm not saying Zorn was some genius here ... but really ... if you think back ... the Redskins were the talk of the NFL in 2008 at 6-2 ... I mean it was one of the best first half starts for the team since the glory years ... only a TOTAL MELTDOWN prevented them from making the playoffs at that point.
Given that kind of start, you can't say Zorn didn't have those guys playing well right out of the gate. And what actually happened?
The o-line and Portis broke down ... they were being ridden like a pack mule ... as soon as that 140 yards per game from Portis disappeared ... Campbell folded like a lawn chair ... he couldn't carry the load ... and it took the following 24 games to rack up 6 more wins!
Here's the issue ... Zorn's future was tied to Campbell ... he was brought in to mold Campbell into a winning QB. And, Mr. Phelps, this task, should you choose to accept it .... the front office will deny any knowledge of your actions. This tape will self destruct in 30 seconds. Mission impossible!
During the 2008/2009 seasons ... the Redskins defense played pretty well ... not the steelers or ravens ... but they kept the Redskins in most games, while the offense struggled to score more than 14 points. In the last 8 games of 2009 ... what did the Skins average? 11 points/game ... 12? You can't beat anyone like that.
Again ... Zorn's inexperience, coupled with a QB that couldn't make plays ... the unfolding disaster that occurred was a foregone conclusion and very predictable . And without that leadership that Campbell couldn't provide ... the team began to lose any sense of hope ... back biting started ... frustration set in, and this team began to anticipate failure, even against lousy teams like the Lions and Rams. How frustrating must it have been to hold the Cowboys to 14 points and lose? How many times did the Redskins fight off good teams for 2 or 3 Qtrs, and simply run out of gas after constant 3 and outs on offense? This is what I remember over the last 24 games of Zorn's tenure.
And what did Shanahan and Allen do first thing? They unloaded Campbell ... Shanahan was never going to hitch his wagon to that horse. And the moment McNabb joined the team ... what was the FIRST THING that we heard from the players ... "he's a leader ... he took leadership day one" and the players rallied around him as if he'd been here 10 years. Now the players won't bad mouth a teammate .... but none of them had an ounce of trust in Campbell's ability to lead them ... if he wasn't staring into space with that deer in headlights look on his face ... he looked defeated .. and every post game presser, he said the same lame things ... we lost as a team ... no ... Jason, you suck as a QB.
I'm telling you, that in 2008 ... if Zorn had McNabb ... the Skins would have made the playoffs EASILY, and probably won the division.
Fast forward to 2010 ... look closely at the Raiders ... with Campbell in there they look pathetic (Campbell's passer rating in the last game was 10 .... 10 !!! ... with Gradowski (and no one is going to confuse him with Peyton Manning) they are competitive ... can move the ball down field ... and their O-Line looks much better when he plays versus Campbell. You know what the LA press was saying after last week? That Campbell looked worse than Jamarcus Russell !!! That's right ... worse than Russell ... and that is a SAD STATEMENT ... because Russell was BAAAAAAAD.
The Raiders and Cable didn't hesitate to yank Campbell ... Gradowski got hurt, and Campbell was back in ... now they are talking about starting Boller this week!!! He started out the 3rd QB.
From #1 to #3 in 2 1/2 games? This is Jason Campbell, and this is why Zorn never had a chance to be successful. He had his own inexperience to overcome, and with a 240 Lb boat anchor tied to his rear end, he couldn't find a way to make chicken salad out of chicken droppings.
When you have a QB throwing dump offs, with guys open 20 yards down field .... over and over again ... failing to score TDs, you can't win in the NFL like that ... whether you are Jim Zorn or Joe Gibbs, or the Redskins or the Raiders.
