The Redskins have released running back Larry Johnson, the team announced on Tuesday.

Johnson played in two games for the Redskins this season, serving in a reserve role and recording five carries for just two yards.

His last carry was a 10-yard loss in the fourth quarter of the Redskins' 30-27 loss to the Houston Texans last Sunday.

In a statement, Redskins general manager Bruce Allen said: "We appreciate Larry’s attitude and contributions to the Redskins. However, we needed to make a roster move in preparation for this week’s game against the Rams.”

Nice. Should have done this after his preseason games, IMHO.

LJ played 11 out of 119 snaps in two games with Redskins. Williams, an undrafted FA, played 15 snaps Sun 3 minutes ago via TweetDeck

I think that they were hoping that he would've been the short yardage back this team has been lacking but after watching him try to dance around in the backfield and look like me trying to run from the houston defense, it was an easy decision.

I know he played for the Colts last season but not sure what that does for Williams' roll this week. I'm sure he'll be the #2 back and if the lead is good, he should get some good touches this week. Also, he's on KO return duties so I think that'll now stop too w/ Simpson being a ST's ace.

Just that he'll be there to be a returner. I have a feeling we may start to see the emergence of Thomas as a WR. I expect to see him a bit this week but this may be fully a depth move here. But Simpson was a very decent K/Off returner. I don't know what he does in coverage - if anything though.

They could be using Simpson for ST duties so Keiland can focus on running the rock with Portis.

Surprised we didn't promote Torrain.

LJ was horrible. I hate saying this, but we are better off without him. With his age (and it is insane saying that as he is only 30), he is now CRAZY slow.

Not sure about this Simpson guy. Never heard of him. We'll see what happens with that. I don't think it was a big deal that he was waived from Buffalo mainly because they are EXTREMELY deep at the RB position -- in fact, they could have the best backs in the league with Spiller, Jackson, and Lynch.

Yeah, I was hoping Torrian would make it to the 53 man roster. Was Simpson a part of someone else's practice squad or was he signed as a FA? I am not sure how those rules work, but maybe Torrian will be active against the rams this week?

A waste of time and effort. I would rather have Betts back.

Somehow, whoever handed him the pink slip couldn't be direct about the nature of his dismissal because his agent seems to think this was a strategic move to free up a roster spot temporarily, ala Pittsburgh with Byron Leftwich. Is it remotely possible that LJ will be back next week?

Let's snatch Tolbert from the Bolts.

The guy looks way to slow on the field. I am hoping Williams gets some more carries now. I would like to see them split between him and Portis.

That would be a fun phrase to have a dyslexic try to repeat ten times.

From the very few times I've seen him play, I liked him. I think he got caught in a numbers game with the Bills already having 2 other scat/speed backs in F. Jackson and #1 pick Spiller.

If he can catch I think he's a good pickup. He got some moves.

Or at the very least right right after he tried to reverse field against Houston. Good lord that was painful.
