ASHBURN, Va. -- Washington Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall says he knows what his team needs to do to win: have him cover each opponent's top receiver.
Hall says Monday it doesn't matter what Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett thinks because, Hall says, "This is my team; this is my defense."
Washington allowed Houston's Matt Schaub to throw for 497 yards and three touchdowns in the Texans' 30-27 overtime victory Sunday.
That included a game-tying, 34-yard scoring pass to Andre Johnson on fourth-and-10 with 2:03 left in regulation. Cornerback Phillip Buchanon and safety Reed Doughty were in coverage; Hall was lined up on the other side of the field.
"Won't happen like that again," Hall says. "If Andre Johnson's out there, I'm going to be out there."

I like the spunk and the attitude.
But one has to wonder though??? What if #21 were here????

Exactly what I was trying to say.
Just like Revis covering Moss all day. Same thing when we face the opposing teams best player. Hall must cover him. Especially if we are being torched.
I like his attitude and he has got the right idea.

we would have an unbelievable treat in store for us each week
Schaub would not have had the day he had - we win the game
If ST were back there I doubt that A. Johnson would have been able to come back on the field and IF he had he never would have been able to hold onto the ball

OK I got your point. If ST is back there is one thing. But, Hall being on him is totally possible. Just saying for the next time. Ok I am done venting moving on.
Positives to take from the game. Offense looked great. Hall was good and solid in coverage.

agree Hero - I'm sure that the defensive backfield will be getting a close look on how they have done and will adjust accordingly
I think putting Hall on the best receiver makes sense and I'm also really sure that the defensive backfield coaches are looking into what gives them a better secondary
no worries - we are 1-1 and the ONLY reason our pass defense is "ranked" #31 is because of 1 game that we could have just as easily won
this defense and actually the guys on the field and on the sidelines are an exciting team to watch again - I'll take this defense against a lot of the defenses we've had here recently - these guys think they can control the game - some of the defenses we've had recently did not look at all as good as these guys do
gotta love it

Once again, I have to ask, why did we get rid of Ryan Clark?
Sorry had to be said again. Hopefully Moore comes back soon. I like hall's gumption but this seems a little arrogant and the team won't like it.

Yea, he definitely could have been more tactful. Really wasn't necessary to throw Buchanon and Doughty under the bus either.

We missed Kareem Moore on Sunday... as much as I like Reed, Moore has it figured out, and is much more athletic...

Sunday was yet another game that we would have won had #21 still been on the field. Can't go a single week without thinking of him.

Just read Shanahan's response to the remarks in the WP. Shanahan loves the quote. He said he wants all his guys thinking like that. He what's his players to want to cover the top receiver.
Looks like the team is fine with it.

Shanny is the best. I love this team right now. It is truely bad ass, and that's after this last loss, and it's only going to get better.

Reed plays well near the line of scrimmage and tackles well, but he can't cover at all. Our FS depth is non-existant.

ASHBURN, Va. -- Washington Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall says he knows what his team needs to do to win: have him cover each opponent's top receiver.
I had been wondering the SAME DARN thing over and over as Carlos Rogers was being OWNED for big gains with a smile on his face time and time again.
Why not place the best CB to cover one of the best WR in the league?
Hey, believe it or not, I am VERY happy with the fact that we have a COMPETITIVE team again. I did not expect a win every week. I do not expect a Superbowlk this year. We are being exposed for our deficiencies and lack of depth in some areas. Thioose same areas will be addressed. Great progress hastaken place and we werefacing the strongest offense in the NFL to date. Not bad at all and in fact, much better than many expected.
... and we were so close ...

D. Hall: YOUR defense got shredded. You may make claim to the defense...but last Sunday, the Texans owned the Skins defense.

I'm surprised (pleasantly) that the team took it in a positive light. Let's hope it's contagious!

Hard to believe, but Carlos is our best cover CB when you're talking about man to man coverage. DHall is only good in a zone setting, when he has a chance to anticipate throws. Just another indication of the personnel we have on defense not matching the scheme we are going for. We should be in a 4-3.

I'd be really surprised if they agree with you (and some others here) and switch to a 4-3 - I think they think the 3-4 with the guys they have gives them a more effective defense
I'm not as good about this stuff as some here but in my opinion we were VERY close to going 2-0 and at this time we are 1-1
I happen to like the way the defense is playing - actually
I like the way our Redskins are playing and we are in for an interesting season if they can keep improving and getting better each week which is what I think we can expect
I'd rather have Haslett and his 3-4 style of defense and with these players than Greg Williams or Blache with their 4-3 defense and these players - been there done that - great for stats but not good for much else
we haven't looked this good as a team for many years - AND I think we're going to get better

Who cares how close we were to going 2-0? We were also VERY close to going 0-2.

The only thing that stings with the loss is that it came as a result of our inability to do the only 2 things we've been able to do in recent memory (i) run the football and (ii) play defense.
I can't say that I'm Jim Haslett, but I think that it's a no-brainer that we need to still implement some 4-3 packages. Not only do we have the personell for it, but it's apparently much easier for teams to run through our 3-4 front on first and second downs.
Mix it up is all I ask. I like the 3-4 but we have to mix it up. We ain't Pittsburgh.

Agreed. I like the idea of the 3-4, but until we have the personnel in place to run it effectively we need to be mixing in more 4-3 packages. This is starting to look like one of those situations where a coach is hell-bent on forcing a scheme onto a group of players that aren't suited to run it.

It's possible to take what he said negatively, but when you look at the quote he clearly meant it positively. I liked Shannahan's reaction that he totally took it that way as well.
