I'm kinda surprised there aren't any reports of us picking up Adalius Thomas. He's a FA and did well in the 3-4 with the Ravens. He def underperformed with the Patriots but he'd be a better option than Andre Carter...

It's most likely a money situation tho. He'd be an instant upgrade however, during an uncapped year until we can draft more people specifically for this scheme next year.

Ryan also said he has talked to free agent linebacker Adalius Thomas, and signing him to help replace Pace "could be a possibility."

Thomas, 33, was released on April 26 by the New England Patriots and hasn't drawn serious interest on the free-agent market.

Thomas played under Ryan from 2000 to 2006 with the Baltimore Ravens. He spent three seasons with the Patriots, but his production declined and he fell out of favor with coach Bill Belichick. In 14 games last season, he recorded 34 tackles, including three sacks.

Yeah, I saw that. I'm shocked there hasn't been any reports of us looking at him. We need serious help at LB. Especially in this transition year.

I think our defense has looked pretty good. Keep in mind that we've gone up against 2/3 playoff teams.

Regarding the cap, he may not just want a one year deal. We have a lot of talent on D and Carter is a good player, I don't see how chasing free agents without them really being a need or a clear upgrade (he isn't at this point) is a net gain at the price of sacrificing cohesion by swapping players in and out. Maybe bringing him into camp early would have been a good option, I don't think swapping him in now is compelling. Sure, we should look at him with anyone who is available, I just don't see him as compelling as you do.

I don't know if Carter's got what what we need in 2-3 OLB pass support. He's looked lost recently in coverage.

That was the trouble with him in SF too, the last time he was in the 3-4.

I was concerned about this as well when we read teh initial reports, but it sounded as if he wouldn't be in coverage much. Kinda like when Ware is in coverage, I giggle a little, b/c if it's anything else than a pass in the flat, he's gonna get beat.

I have a hard time thinking Carter is going to do much pass coverage. Maybe against a primarily blocking TE who decides to go out. But they have to be aware of that. It is a front seven and with different schemes and looks and lots of substitutions I'm sure they're accounting for that. But a 3-4 with a non coverage LB is no less pass coverage then a 4-3.

I'm with ya, but I've seen it happen already is why I brought it up.
