Now that we've played 3 pre-season games, the verdict is almost in. Here's who I think should stay and who should go.

Stay

Keiland Williams - seems capable of gaining yards that LJ and Parker can't
T. Austin - might be the 5th or 6th WR, wish he would get more PR/KR reps
T. Carter - might be early, but he looked better than any other safety vs. Jets
A. Armstrong - should be 3rd WR against Dallas
P Riley - looks good every week

Go
Banks - Sorry but one TD doesn't make up for two fumbles.
Landry - I know he's staying, but am tired of seeing him over-run plays
Bartel - not impressive at all
Wade - I thought he would be a lock, but has been invisible so far

Landry has been the 3rd or 4th best person on the entire defense this preseason.

Hall has been impressive and Orakpo is abusing LT's and RT's out there but then the next person is prolly Landry followed closely by London Fletcher. But London has actually had a few bad plays this preseason.

I think landry will make the pro bowl this year playing down in the box.

Cuts/Keepers

WR:

Cuts- Hodge, Wade, Kelly. Hodge and Wade have shown nothing. Yes I'm giving up on Kelly.

Keepers- Moss, AA, Galloway, R.Williams, Thomas, Banks. AA is more then a 3rd WR. He has had the best hands, best route running, and was a beast on ST last night making most of the tackles. He easily locks up my #2 spot or #1 if we move Moss to slot. Thomas needs a good game 4 cause he's been invisible. You gunna gut Banks? OMG. He has shown to be a threat as a KR/PR constantly knowing when to field the ball and when not to and possibly take it to the house. In the Ravens game he had a nice catch at WR, running a good route to get open and sitting in the open zone for a pass for 25 to 30 yrds gain and yes he took a hit from to defenders and still got up. This week he showed how valuable he is running a screen for a big gain. You can't cut a guy for fumbling if he's producing. Sadly I almost put him in front of Thomas at this point.

I know, I know, where is Austin? He has not shown be a lot. He's not that great of a KR/PR and has caught limited balls. I would put him on the practice squad for next yr or in case some one got hurt.

RB's:

Cut- Parker, Torain.
Keep- Portis, Johnson, Williams

I'd use Banks in the Wild Cat roll ,which they practiced during camp and MS was afriad the media would make a big deal out of it, or as a scat back.

QB:

Cuts- Bartel or Beck, flip a coin I'm not impressed with either. Who ended the game with the nice drive and TD? was that Beck.

Keep- McNabb, Sexy Rexy.

I think the OL, DL, CB, LB, S will be difficult to decide. How many players do we need to cut? I've given you 5 so far. TE is a lock with Cooley and Davis but the young guy playing in the 4th quarter looked good also. I think deciding between him and the FB's will be hard. Maybe some can go to the PS.

He was terrible yesterday. Overran two plays and was out of position on LT's long run. He's constantly not where he needs to be. He looks better than he did last year, but he still has a ways to go.

Candidates to be cut Tuesday:
Gatewood
Jackson
Scott
Oldenburg
Vickers
Hodge
My guess is that at least 3 of those 6 will be cut Tuesday.

Yeah, Haslett's defense doesn't really have a set FS and SS. Both safeties play both positions. It all depends on the particular play call which one plays which position. So on plays where he is playing FS, he is still taking bad angles, and having trouble in coverage.

I have confidence in both Landry and Haslett - I think that Landry responds a lot better to this guy and becomes the force that we thought he was going to be when he first started here

I'm still of the opinion that Landry is going to be a huge factor for our defense for many years - this guy has all the tools to be one of the best

I'm still concerned about having the right personnel for the 3-4 but it certainly appears that both Haslett and Shanahan are convinced it will give the defense more opportunities to both be more effective and to create more turnovers - Landry will be a big part of that

I think this year more then any other there are very few sacred cows and almost anyone could be cut. I think Shanahan's going to count history very little this year and it's really going to be who had the best camp at most positions. There could be a lot of cuts we're not expecting, even more then usual.

I also think we only keep two QBs. Not because Shanahan wants two but because he has two. We can get a guy as good as Bartel or Beck any time we want. There's no reason not to just have one of them or someone else on the PS.

Jeff Garcia's in the UFL - I think QB's are out there if we want them.

I think there's something personally wrong with Garcia. He seems to play well everywhere he goes, but for some reason he's always cut.

Whatever it is, the teams keep it quiet, but I'm thinking it's got to be something; I mean, Philly cut him after he took them to the Super Bowl for chrisakes.

Shanahan said today that McNabb might not be ready to go for the Dallas game. Given that there is no way that we only keep 2 qb's. They're also holding Rex out of the Arizona game because of McNabb's ankle so I'm thinking that whoever has the better game stays as the #3 qb, at least until McNabb is back healthy.

I agree we'll have a third QB on the roster if McNabb's not ready to go. We're probably going to be looking at everyone available though, it may or may not be someone on the roster. But if neither of our 2 QB's are playing this week it's a great chance for one of them to step up.

Week one and we're holding our breath that Grossman doesn't get injured. Not how we wanted to start the Shanahan era.

It's possible that Shanny is just trying to force Dallas to have to game plan for both. He can always claim later that he was just giving a conservative assessment.

OK, so I'm spinning...

Wow, thanks for the seering insight. Landry will stay by sheer virtue of being the 6th pick in 2007 and his physical talents. But watch him play and he does more harm than good. Maybe one day he'll learn, but this is season 4 for him. At what point does a guy learn that as the LAST f-ing line of defense, he needs to be a sure tackler, always move the ball carrier toward his teammates while always keeping himself between the ball carrier and the endzone. Instead, we typically see Landry traveling through the air, off camera somewhere.

It's definitely possible, but he doesn't have to claim anything later because he said he didn't know if McNabb will be ready, I haven't seen him say he won't. I know Grossman had a decent camp and all, but I'm doubting the Cowboys are very afraid of him. Then again maybe they watch his Superbowl game and we run all over them because they can't stop laughing...

Some typos are pretty funny. I had to think about this one for a second. I realize it's only one letter off but it's such a different word.

nobody with any sense is predicting that this guy is not a part of this group this year

Yeah, but will he be a good part of the group. Or will he be the same guy he has been the past two seasons?

Okay, so I'll remove Landry, because despite explaining that I know he will stay, people still get hung up on it. I've added some more names.

T. Carter - might be early, but he looked better than any other safety vs. Jets
A. Armstrong - should be 3rd WR against Dallas
P Riley - looks good every week
R. Williams - has been solid. Can expect decent production from him as the 4th or 5th WR.

Go
Banks - Sorry but one TD doesn't make up for two fumbles.
Bartel - not impressive at all
Wade - I thought he would be a lock, but has been invisible so far
D. Thomas - has done next to nothing. Doesn't appear to be a factor in special teams. Hands are suspect. I see the coaches being more willing to put their faith in Armstrong, R. Williams than Thomas.

Wow! They're holding out Grossman because of McNabb's injury? Do they want to make sure we have at least one starter when the Pies come to town?

They did not like what they saw in Rex I guess, or they want to see who they will cut between the 2 3rd string QB's. Sux for the WR's like Kelly, because it's tough enough being hurt and coming back, now you have an unproven QB throwing to you.

worry, worry, worry - the sky is falling

actually for even worse news - I just heard that Wade is going to keep most of his starters in for the last game because his feeling is they are not ready to play yet
so this obviously (for all the worry warts, anyway) means that the pukes will be a lot better prepared than we are for the first game - game over :D

I think that Shanahan is doing the best he can to not only try to ensure that we win the first game but also try & win as many games as possible after the first game - DUH

It's just me, BUT I think we'll see a big difference than last year and that's something to be pleased about

worry, worry worry - we have so many issues - worry, worry worry

I think that the coaches want to see as many of the guys that are close to being cut as possible
