Is Cooley a top 10 TE?

The Sports Junkies were arguing about weather or not

ey is a top five TE or not and the ended up saying he wasn't even a top ten TE.
I think it is he is a top ten TE and close to top five. This is where I put him from 1-10:
1. T. Gonzalez - yes I know he is 50 years old but still #1
2. A. Gates - will get you 8 TDs, 75+, 900 yds every year
3. J Witten - good first 3 years, great last three!
4. D. Clark -

ey has had a better career, but 2009 puts DC over CC
5. C.

ey - throw out 09 and ove rhte past 4 years he has ave 70 rpt /786 ydrs /6 TDs
6. K Winslow - after missing his first 2 seasons he has had 3 out of four great years
Throw a blanket over the next three all young TEs that may move up in the future.
7. O Daniels - injury last year kept him from passing

ey?
8. V. Davis - Singletary threw him out of that game he has been fantastic
9. B. Celek - Great season in 09, but 08 and 07 were LAME!
10. H Miller or Zack Miller - take your pick
(H Miller might be that best overall TE in football if you place a high value on blocking)
(Z. Miller is a better pass catcher than HM)
There is my list. I have

ey in the top five, but wouldn't argue too much with someone who had him in the top 8, but anything lower than that is just crazy.
Dallas Clark maybe too high on the list. He benefits from playing with P Manning and really isn't a TE, he is more of a slot receiver. Also, he really has only had one great season and a couple of good seasons.
I don't see how anyone can come up with a list of top ten TEs that doesn't include

ey.

"beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
who cares what anyone thinks about our players outside of the franchise or the Redskins' fan base - fact is

ey is a great player for this team
I could care less how anyone else thinks about him - he's a great asset to our franchise
PLUS he's a fun guy too, from all accounts

I touched on this in another thread. I thought they were high, myself, when they were talking about it. The single fact that I like to point out is that

ey was leading all TEs (or was it all receivers?) at the point whre he was injured? And that was even under Zorn's atrocious system and playcalling.
There's no way in hell Celek, Daniels, or either Miller is better than

ey, as I've seen in othere lists. Hell, I even saw on NFLN that Finley from GB was better, all 11 starts worth...

If the NFL Network picked the obvious players all the time nobody would pay attention to it and you would have forgotten all about it.
Celek is the hot pick because they still think that offense is going to be launching the ball around everywhere. Chase Daniels is a very good TE but was injured last year just like

ey. Heath Miller is most likely picked because he has 2 rings on his hand. Finley, I don't know about that...

ey is without a doubt a top ten TE if he stays healthy.

Most of the discussions about top ten have related to fantasy value. In terms of fantasy value he's being left out of the top 10 because of last years injury and because Davis will get a lot of throws this year as well.
In terms of play, I'd put him top five, certainly no lower than top 10.

He's certainly a top 10 tight end, probably just outside the top 5.

ey is top 5, he's just been in horrific offenses....
He'd be a MAJOR star on another team with good QB play, good line play and a good HC. Hopefully we'll be that team this year.

Why are we even discussing this? I think we all know

ey is top 5. No one can blame him for having 2 yrs of a crummy offense.
Oh, I hope you talking about father Winslow from the 80's cause the son who was just traded to Tampa sucks. Anyone putting him ahead of

ey needs their head checked.

I never mentioned fantasy, NFLN didn't call it fantasy, and the Junkies didnt' call it fantasy. Oh yeah, and neither did the OP as I recall.

The caller (Sports Junks' groupie Rich Turpin) was trying to make the case that

ey was Top 5 and he was having a tough time. The Junks (who are all Skins fans except Lurch) threw stat after stat about him discrediting him and saying that he wasn't even in the top half.
The #1 stat they kept using: the amount of TDs

ey has caught in the past 23 games....Answer: 3.
I actually like both Davis and

ey, but neither could block their way out of wet paper bag.

I don't even see the debate in this.

Top 5, no doubt. I wouldn't immediately rule out arguments that have him just outside of the top 5, even though I disagree . . . but anyone who says he's not in the top 10 should probably make a habit of keeping their football opinions to themselves.

Chris makes a huge contribution that is measured in more than statistics. He is the team's court jester, prankster, and funloving personality. He makes the game more enjoyable for teammates and for fans. You always need a guy like that on your team. When you have a guy who combines those qualities with hard work and good numbers, that's like a goose who lays golden eggs.

Easily top 5, no doubt.

ey is in the top 5 and to me the #1 TE with run after the catch. He hardly ever go down after the first hit and those other tight ends are soft.
Only knock I have on him is I wish his blocking was a little better, but compared to the others who really shy away from it he's okay.

I agree and that's not just the homerism in me either.

ey is definitely in the top 6, maybe 7 TE's in the league. They are talking about recency which obviously includes his injury. Before his injury he was like you said, another good WR. Now he has McNugget.. shoooooooot, they better look out.

It's amazing what 2 lost years from a terrible offense and injury will do. Everyone probably had him in the top 3 2 years ago, but now people say he isn't top 10. He will put himself back into everyone's top 5 or even top 3 after this year. Gonzalez is the best ever, at least statistically, and

ey was putting up Gonzalez-like numbers before Zorn came.

ey had 27 TD's in his 1st 4 years, Gonzalez had 24. I think at the end of his career we will all be looking at the 2 years he lost under Zorn's offense and be hoping they won't keep him out of the HOF.

I think so, but he will really have to click with McNabb for it to happen. I think it is very possible.
How could anyone not want to have

ey on their team. He is just a great guy (entertaining).

Is there any doubt after last night's game?

ey is back, and is going to have a monster year.

And Davis will be an awesome compliment. I'm even more excited to see what

ey does this year moving around.

I am in the Easily Top 10, but just outside of the Top 5 category. There is a logjam around the 5 spot. Arguments can be made for

ey, Vernon Davis, Owen Daniels, & Winslow in any order.
I also would put Jermichael Finley above Zack Miller and Celek.

Yeah, I think he's top 5.
I actually think Fred could be a top 10 tight end in the league too. He doesn't have the numbers to back it up thus far, but dude is a monster.

It's hard to give Finley that kinda credit with only 11 starts. I agree with he looked good so far, but give him a full year first.
