I think I'm getting a man-crush on Shanahan

After 2 year of everything "medium" Zorn and a laid back retro hippie approach to coaching an NFL team, I feel like we are moving in the right direction. Shan's no nonesense approach and authoritative manner have impressed me to no end. Take the handling of Albert....humilate him and force him to work...by god Shan will get our money's worth from him. The best coaches in any professional sport know how to handle egos and get the most from players that make far more money than they do. I know it's early but so far I'd give Shan and Allen a B+ for running the team for a offseason.

I don't think he humiliated him. He is trying to have his players in better physical condition than last year. I do like how Shan is not afraid to speak his mind to the media. This means there will be no doubt if he's expressing his opinion to the players.

I'd rate Allen & Shanahan a little higher than a B+ - these guys have done very well IMO in their efforts to put a competitive product on the field - this franchise was 4-12 and did not even look that good for most of the season - WE WERE A JOKE

I am not expecting that we will be in the playoffs but this franchise has definetly been assembled to be a lot more competitive than what we have seen here for some time

I am very encouraged to hear reports that the players and coaches from both this franchise and others think that this franchise will be competitive in the NFC East

we are close to having a consistently competitive product and that is a minor miracle after what we had here last year

We'll probably have a better record but we've done zip for the future. We were old, and now we're older, What gets me though is the reaction to Shanny's policy, Nine tenths of us wanted us to build for future, now those same nine tenths are singing praises for what they diidn't want. Any explanations out there, other than most of you need a poppa?

My prediction -- because there were so few younger free agents available this past year, Allen and Shanny stocked up this year on veterans who can play for one year. Next spring we'll look into replacing some of the older guys with younger free agents. Remember this is NOT a single year fix. We had a horrible team last year and plenty of holes.

I'd predict the following guys will not be on our team next year:

DL Daniels -- just can't imagine this guys goes more than one more yr

DL Holliday -- ditto

NT Green -- we'll look for a younger NT to groom to backup our starter

WR Galloway -- assuming he makes the team this yr

Wrs Wade & Furery -- ditto

LB Carter -- money, age and out of position mean, he's going

CB Buchanan -- Tryon will take over 3rd cb spot or we'll draft someone.

Portis -- makes too much money and is nearing the end. We;ll keep Johnson to pair with a younger quicker guy

Parker -- will he make the team this year?

FB Sellers -- Morris was picked to replace him. He is 35

Mike Wms -- I think he may be finished

McIntosh -- depends on how he plays inside.

Fletcher -- can he continue at this pace?

Finally, Albert -- if he can play well this year, we'll trade him to recoup picks we traded away for McNabb and Brown.

I think we get younger, I'm not worried at all about that now.

Neither Galloway nor Furrey are likely to make this yrs team. Just look at their (lack of) production the last 2 years.

We tried to replace Sellers last year (Eddie Williams). We'll see how Morris does.

I see no reason why Rocky won't stay. He's a quietly effective player.
Don't be so quick to count out Fletcher.

We got Older with McNabb, but Trent is a rook and Brown is only in his 6th season. McNabb will play 3 years and could go 5 if everything went well for him. Our RB's are old, but Larry Johnson is pretty fresh. He's only played 82 games and he's in his 8th season. Portis is entering his 9th season and is healthy for the first time in awhile. There's a possibility that those two could play in rotation at a high level for 2 or 3 years. Our TEs are relatively young and both very good. Receivers are relatively young, but argueably won't be here much longer.

Defensively we have a mix. We got some young studs and some old studs. We also have quite a few young guys who have a lot of potential. I personally think moving to the 3-4 is going to make some of these younger guys shine.

As with any team, we have to continue to develope this team thru the draft. Next year, we gotta start looking for a QB, RB and WRs, and then defense.

I think our team has a chance to compete in this division right now and is setup to get better the longer we are in this system. I am very happy with our direction, and it's been a long time since i felt that way...

sure the stats say our team is old compared to the rest of the league, but look at some of the guys on our roster who have no chance of seeing any action, or are in less important roles. holliday 13, sellers 11, draft 12, furrey 8, galloway 16!, grossman 8, wade 8. and bidwell is 11. take those guys out of the equation, and aside from a few spots, our team actually looks pretty young.
