So, it looks like this is the only guy we have so far at kicker. I didn't see any of his games. Stats show that he had 3 touchbacks on 16 kickoffs. Kicking duties were fine, 4-4 FGs and 6-7 on extra points, the miss being a block. Looks like he kicked the ball well in college, but only for 1 year. 3-16 isn't strong, but we've had plenty of kickers that couldn't get the ball in the endzone, so i will take it. Anybody pay much attention to his kickoffs? Does he get the ball in the endzone regularly? That's always been more of a problem for us than making field goals IMO.

Kicking the ball to the 10 yard line angers me...

From what I remember he had a lot stronger leg than Suisham and the ball usually went into the endzone on kickoffs. I didn't see all of the games he played in though, but I remember it being a big improvement.

Suisham was better at hanging the ball in the air vs. Gano who just booms it out of the back. Danny Smith said he wanted to pin the other team inside the 20 instead of giving them a 20 yd start.

I heard he kicked a 69 yard field goal in high school, but who knows if that is true

His wikipedia page says 69 yards. Other pages show it as 65 yards in september of 2004.

well, hopefully the kicker won't be as important in the years to come as they have been the last 20 years =)

and hopefully he turns out to be a good one...

Whether Gano is the next best thing since sliced bread or not, I would still prefer a kicking competition in training camp. I'd rather choose from two than settle for one.

Let's just hope that he will be kicking more PATs than FGs.

Amen to the PATs over Field Goals!
