Don't get me wrong, Coach Joe was certainly a football guy, but Gibbs 2.0 was running a 1980's offense and behind the times

Now with Allen (cap specialists and good GM) Shanny Sr. (solid head coach), Shanny Jr. (Up and coming OC), and Haslett (Good DC with head coaching experience) we have a bunch of football guys.

I think the future is bright for the first time in a long time

Good QB, stable of older but still good backs, rebuilding OL to go along with a D that has been solid.

And I love that no one is talking about us. Listened to NFL radio breakdown the NFC East and didn't say a word about the Skins

I think we are going to be much better than the "experts" think. Even without Fat Albert (who can go F himself for all I care)

Agree to some extent. I need to see the next franchise QB before I get too excited about the future.

agreed on franchise QB, but if they can get Jammal Brown signed to a long term deal, it certainly eliminates the need to take another tackle next year with our first pick. Brown is still relatively young, so we could have our bookends in place for the next 6 to 8 years. Much like Jansen and Samuels.

Yeah I don't know if that is true or not, but I don't think that was the big issue with Gibbs 2.0. People don't give him enough credit for taking a pretty medicore team to the playoffs. (We all saw what happened when a lesser coach was handed the same team.)

Personally I think the problem with Gibbs 2.0 was that he was just too nice and too deferential to Snyder and Cerrato. At least it looked that way. Shanahan seems to have come in here with the right attitude. I don't really have any doubt that he'll be successful here in the next two years if Snyder just stays out of his way.

I personally think Gibbs completely turned this team around. The attitude of the players for sure, and possibly the fans was much like that of the Lions or Raiders. Gibbs changed the atmosphere. He had a little success on the field, but he left too soon to make a complete turnaround. Our situation was dire. Our team as a whole was just plain bad. We had holes everywhere and hardly any draft picks to fix it. The fact that we made the playoffs was incredible. I also think Gibbs made Snyder realize that it's the football people who should be running the team. Get great football people and then let them do their jobs. It seems to be happeneing...

Gibbs took the Skins to the playoffs twice in 4 years with a roster of average guys. He also mustered a playoff appearance after his team dealt with the murder of its best defensive player and a crushing loss the following week. We lost a very close game to the Seahawks that year - the team that ultimately went on to the Superbowl.

Gibbs 2 was a success given the circumstances he had to deal with.

Yeah I completely agree with you on this. I think this is just one of those things that has taken some hindsight to appreciate.

I think Gibbs helped but ultimately nothing was really going to change while Snyder was in charge

We can only hope that Snyder will give these guys both the support they need and the time to get things turned around


maybe I'm still a little biased but I think these 2 have got things going in the right direction and we do seem to be a lot better but this franchise was in complete disaray at many times during last season

I am hoping that we can get the attitude back - the win loss record may not be great this season but if the players and coaches start believing they deserve to win, a lot of very good things can happen

That franchise QB will have to wait, but if you look at what Shanny and Allen have done up to this point and you have to get a little excited.

When they took over there were holes at Left Tackle, Right Tackle, Guard, QB, FS, DE for the new scheme and a NT. Looking back, they when after Chad Clifton on the first day of free agency and ended up with Jammal Brown (6 years younger and 2 pro bowls) after the last mini-camp ended. Trent Williams was drafted with the 4th pick in the draft instead of them trying to move up to get a QB. Picked up Artis Hicks to play G but he can play just about every spot on the line. They traded Campbell to Oakland and got McNabb from Philly. Swapped draft spots with the Rams and picked up Carrikner to play DE, and signed Kemo to play NT.

They have the highest roster turnover in the NFL from the time they took over to present, mixing in young guys and vets. They have done this with breaking the bank, or mortgaging the future.

They have traded away a couple draft picks...
McNabb and Brown cost the Skins a 2nd rounder this year and a 3rd and 4th rounder next year. No one likes trading picks but if you do it's generally going to cost if that player is a QB or OT. Shanny and Allen got one each and they both are former pro bowlers, they also will get a fifth-rounder or seventh-round pick back from New Orleans. That's one future pick and a swap of draft positions next year. Campbell netted a 2012 pick

So they have pretty much filled all the holes they had coming in other than free saftey and address depth at spots like cornerback, center, QB, and the D-line with free agents signing of Phillip Buchanon, Kory Lichtensteiger, Rex Grossman, Anthony Bryant, Howard Green, and Darrion Scott.

They had one player not buy into what they are doing (even after paying him to) but have created competition at just about every position on the depth chart.

Shanahan said he wanted to build for the future but he also said he wants to win now. His roster is taking the shape of one that will allow him to reach his stated goals.

I have to say I am completely surprised how much they've addressed. Swapping schemes, the coaching staff, adn everything else, they've done very well on paper to present. I'm really hoping that it works out on the field 1/2 as well as it looks on paper.
