man up, Trent Williams

Some good feedback here on Trent Williams especially from Chris Samuels:

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redski ... re-co.html

Good to hear! However, I really hate this quote from Williams. One of his coaches from Oklahoma had said:

"He's one of those guys, he's definitely not a gym rat. If he was, there wouldn't be anybody even close to him," Schmidt said at the time. "If he really committed himself, it wouldn't even be close. He'd be the best ever. That's how much talent he's got. There's a lot of talent there that he just hasn't tapped."

And Williams?

Williams was unfazed by his former coach's comments, he said. "I wasn't really worried about what that coach had to say. What he had to say really wasn't important to me. I mean, obviously, it wasn't important to Washington, either. You going to always have people who got their opinions. Obviously, what he was saying didn't match up to what was being produced on the field. And that's why I went where I went."

I just think that's such an immature response. "Yeah I got drafted high, I got paid, so coach's opinion must not mean anything." Williams needs to take a good look at Jamarcus Russell as a guy with a ton of potential, who got paid a ton of cash but didn't put in the work needed to become a great player.

Dockery on Sirius NFL Radio yesterday said that Williams is busting his butt all around. Take it for what it's worth.

He also said that Selvish Capers is FAST... nearly ran down a linebacker who had intercepted a pass.

If you watch the video of Trent saying this on Redskins dot com, it really doesn't come across as badly as it sounds. Sure, it wasn't the best comment to make, but I'm sure that Trent was upset that his former strength coach made those comments to a reporter.

Having to protect a strong / cool vet QB in MnNabb will only motivate him to work hard. Very glad to see from day one McNabb leading by example in the weight room / film room which will rub off on the team as a whole.

WAR B&G!

Let's at least wait until the start of the season before we start crucifying our players. Williams is going to have his struggles this first year, all rookie do. I think the Redskins made the better selection when they took him.

Thank you, aswas, so I didn't have to say it yet again. Training camp hasn't even started and the lynch mob is gearing up on the rooks? Damn!!

One of those guys reporting from the park said Trent is hitting the gym real hard and working with offensive and defensive players in there. I have confidence the young buck will get it right, ya'll just wait until the season starts and see what he can do. It's gonna be a great year for us, just watch!

My biggest wish this year is that nobody says the words "Man I miss Chris Samuels"

Hopefully this pick works out well.

You're setting yourself up for failure if you think that will happen. He's a rookie, he will make mistakes.

Thanks I will check it out! Sometimes written stuff does come across differently.

I don't know what exactly was meant by the "straw man" comment. I think you probably need to look up what a "straw man argument" is. I was just commenting on a story from the Redskins Insider. A straw man is a "fallacy in which an irrelevant topic is presented in order to divert attention from the original issue."

Also, I don't think I was in anyway "crucifying" Williams. I was really glad to hear that he has impressed Chris Samuels so much. I just think if a coach gives you some criticism - especially CONSTRUCTIVE criticism like "you need to hit the gym a little harder" - then take it for what its worth. Don't dismiss it because you were the #4 pick.

The problem is, that comment wasn't constructive criticism, nor was it intended to be. It was, I understand, an off the cuff comment made in response to a question from a sports writer before the draft... which Williams disagreed with AND which could have hurt his standing in the draft... If that happened to you, don't you think YOU'D be a bit peeved (ESPECIALLY if you didn't agree)???

His attitude sucks, throw him back in the draft pool and get someone else. That solves everything :P

SHAKE.

He's a SHAKE cup... very high tech, at that...

just trying to save you from his considerable wrath... which, btw, goes way beyond "squirrely" in it's scope...

I know what your saying, and I'm sure there will be times we miss him at LT. My point though was that I don't want us out there searching 5 years from now for someone to replace him.
