Kevin Kolb gets extension

With backup quarterback Michael Vick due so much money this year, Eagles starter Kevin Kolb was due a raise. Now he's got one.

The Eagles announced Thursday that Kolb has signed a one-year contract extension through 2011. Scout's Adam Caplan first reported the deal, and says it includes "roughly" $12.26 million guaranteed.

We'll be interested to see how much total money is in the deal. We suspect nearly all of it is guaranteed, because it's hard to imagine Kolb making much more than $6 million per year.

The deal's length is no surprise; Florio predicted a short-term band aid contract last month. The "30 percent" rule made a longer deal impossible.

We think the short deal has practical benefits for the Eagles. They get to see if Kolb is truly a franchise quarterback before forking over huge dollars.

UPDATE: ESPN's Adam Schefter says the whole deal is $12.25 million. All of it is guaranteed.

The Eagles took Kolb in the first round, 36th overall. Below is a list of other QBs selected in the 2007 draft.

JaMarcus Russell: Oakland Raiders, first round, first overall

Brady Quinn: Cleveland Browns, first round, 22nd overall

John Beck: Miami Dolphins, second round, 40th overall

Trent Edwards: Buffalo Bills, third round, 92nd overall

Tyler Thigpen: Minnesota Vikings, seventh round, 217th overall

Other quarterbacks picked that year were Drew Stanton, Jeff Rowe, Troy Smith, and Jordan Palmer.

If Kolb wasn't the best , Who was ?

Yea, but not because he is anything special.

JC could have been considered the best of his draft until Rodgers got to play. They aren't all winners. The rams may learn that.

One thing about the McNabb deal is that it allows us to draft more predictable positions until he retires.
