The New England Patriots on Monday released former Pro Bowl linebacker Adalius Thomas, who joined the team as a high-profile free agent in 2007, but fell into disfavor with coach Bill Belichick last season.

Thomas' agent, Bus Cook, told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora on Monday that the 10-year veteran is a free agent and has received inquiries from several teams already.

While the New England Patriots haven't formally announced Thomas' release, the move is expected to come sometime Monday, La Canfora reports.

He could play Andre Carter's OLB spot, I think he'd be a nice pickup, but we probably can't outbid other teams on him.

He is really best suited as a utility player, and a team who picks him up must understand how to best use him. Suprisingly, Belechek didn't. Rex Ryan got the best out of him by constantly lining him up at different positions. He's played every single position. Lined up against Chad Johnson (when he was Chad Johnson) at CB.

I get ppl telling me, "Don't call me sir." I reply with, "I can't help it. I even call my 9yo sir," and they usually leave me alone about it.
