Eff Skip Bayless and his "Team Obliterator" tag, I would welcome T.O. into the fold.

because... our locker room isn't quite toxic enough...

People overvalue our receivers. They aren't great. Thomas has potential I guess, but that's about it. Apparently McNabb has already noticed.

Three things jumped out about that article:

1) The title "McNabb "open" to T.O. in D.C." doesn't quite mean that he wants him to come or is lobbying for it.

2) The article reads:

The Redskins have the No. 4 overall pick on Thursday, and Shanahan and Redskins general manager Bruce Allen will have to get creative to improve their roster. There is potential for the team to trade the fourth pick, defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth and former starting quarterback Jason Campbell, which could open the door for them to sign Owens.

I don't know what the trade of AH, or JC, or trading back in the draft would have to do with us signing T.O. He's an unrestricted FA. We could sign him regardless.

3) Bringing in T.O. would also impact the Skins Cowboys rivalry. He left Dallas under equally mystifying circumstances. Now, let's sign Plaxico so the Giants won't feel left out.


If we did sign him, I would support it, but I would definitely be wary that it could be boom or bust. Skib Bayless is a blowhard by the way. He lost all credibility from me when he said Lebron James was overrated, but I digress.

What do you mean? I'm not saying this is a contrived story with no truth. I'm saying that McNabb expressing that he's "open" to playing with T.O. is a little different than say what OchoCinco is saying/doing. Heck, I'm open to it, but I am not sure whether I "want" him to come here.

Pros:

He's a playmaker and will add explosiveness to our offense. He'll allow Santana to move around without double coverage, and will give us options with ey, Davis, and Thomas.

He can help Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly from a veteran, training, taking care of your body, route running standpoint.

He an Donovan MAY have learned from their last stint and be able to make this work.

Cons:

Could split the locker room if T.O. gets back into his disgruntled ways or if the team starts losing.

It would instantly put more pressure on McNabb to win a Superbowl now.

With Portis, Larry Johnson, Owens, and possibly Haynesworth, we might have more of a reality TV show than a football team.

I honestly can't say how it would play out. But, it would be interesting to say the least.

He passed the drama test last year, not in the news(although he is keyed in on by the media) despite having his career worst stats he's still a great reciever that played on the Bills. Put him back with McNabb, two great pass catching TE's, Moss, and Kelley/Thomas and he's a threat again. We must put as much talent on the field as possible if we are to compete this year. T.O. also wouldn't have to cause problems here because he'd be able to remain focused on his hatred for the Cowutters and Eavils. FOUR TIMES A YEAR! Remember him running all over us? Let's do it to them.

He might have walked over Jim Zorn but with no free agent interest in him wShanahan could sign and release him for nothing. That's why he won't be a cancer here, job security. McNabb and T.O. made it to the Super Bowl without a running game, let's get competitive and BRING HIM IN.

He was clearly humbled by getting no interest in free agency last year. That's why he jumped on the Bills contract. He's still a safety over the top WR

our safety over the top WR now is Santana Moss. Our only WR threat for the last 5 years is Santana Moss. Remember when he was younger and we talked about getting him into single coverage with another proven reciever?

From a talent standpoint, it makes sense. Shanahan has had receivers like Rod Smith, and Brandon Marshall before. His son had the beast known as Andre Johnson. T.O. would fit what the offense wants to do, but the question is can he fit into our locker room without doing more harm than good.

I'm done inviting ex-Cowboy, loud mouth stars to Washington. We've learned this lesson before. Say NO to T.O.

Here's my 02.

You got two players who have played in the same division. Both have played on the same team. Both have been ousted by the same team. One played for a TWO division rivals... both want nothing more than to go to the big show, and if they can stomp on the ppl who didn't believe in them on the way, that' just bonus.... happy

With that said... I would rather have Randy Moss instead.

If we signed T.O. We would have 1) the guy who stood on the Star at Cowboys stadium, and 2) the guy who stomped a mudhole in the Cowboys starting center.

I thought I would feel better about saying that than I do.

I can't see Shanahan and Allen giving McNabb his way if in fact is is wanting TO. That would defeat the purpose of what Shanahan is trying to do, which is to change the culture at Redskins Park.

You have to give him a little slack for playing on a crap team. But yeah I still agree with what you're saying. He might not be completely DONE, but he ain't the T.O. that McNabb played with in 2004.

I'm not sure that I'd say he's done--as in has nothing left. But, he is definitely not the player that he used to be. Nobody is, except Brett Favre.

Nonetheless, he still is a talent that has to be accounted for on the field. And, while some might argue that Santana has more in the tank, T.O. still is better than every other receiver on our roster.

That being said, I still don't necessarily want to acquire him. But, if we did, I would get over it.

I'm not a T. Owens fan but I'll trust Bruce, Kyle and Mike's assessment of his ability to help or not help this franchise a little more than anyone here

in my estimation this guy's still a horse - whether we've got anyone that can ride him or not is to be determined

Totally agree. The guy missed SO many balls last year. I would not be in favor of this move. How about concentrating on drafting some good players. Oh wait, we don't have any draft picks

Exactly. He has always had bad hands but used to be able to make up for it with his big play ability. Well anybody that actually watched him play last year would know that he has lost more than just a step and that big play ability has greatly diminished. All that this moved would accomplish would be to block our younger players, hinder their development, and eventually lead to locker room problems, just like at every other place that TO has played. Although he would fit right in with Larry Johnson

Yeah, I didn't hear much from TO last year. Some of his stats sounded mediocre, at best.

My brother put it perfectly: "I wouldn't mess around with Ownes...he's old & sucks.. Go Bengals (MY dad's sound of the family is from Cincy)!"

The only logical way to have Owens on the team is a year by year contract. That way if he acts up you can just let him go with out a big salary cap fuss.

I disagree.. Yes, he dropped passes that he normally wouldn't have in his better days, I agree. However the dude didn't really have a good QB to put it out there for him when he did burn the DBs. I personally think he played his best with McNabb and to have that chance to happen again HERE in DC I don't want to miss that. Last year he didn't talk trash (probably because of those dropped passes I mentioned) and he wasn't a distraction at all for the Bills. I think he's matured since the McNabb thing and plenty of stuff has come out saying he really wasn't 100% at fault. T.O. still has some gas left in the tank.. him, McNabb, CP, Willie, LJ and Santana. T.O on 1 side and SM on the other??? Oh my goodness, who do they double team??? That's all I'm saying bro, a better offensive situation would do T.O. great. I think anyways.
