McNabb is a great addition but....

We need to seriously protect this guy. My main concern is the Oline... I know Shanny's notorious for building Olines, but we don't have Alex Gibbs to go with Shanny.

That's my concern if we cant protect him then it makes no difference who the qb is hard to be a good qb from your back.

The guy has 6 years left with a good line. 1 year with our current line

6 years? You think McNabb's going to play until he's 40 at a starting calibre? seriously?

Come on Vet. In his 11 NFL seasons, McNabb's played in 16 games FOUR whole times. With that kind of history of durability, there's no reason why we shouldn't apply the Brett Favre ironman metric to his future.
Or, in more seriousness, we'll be lucky to get 4 good years out of him. I think 3 with any sort of production is the most likely.

Donny Mac is not Jason "slow release" Campbell. He will fire that thing out of there if the line breaks down. Slants and RB flats would be common until we shore up the line. I think McNabb will be savvy enough to guage when the pressure is coming and get rid of it before he takes a hit.

Hard to when your line lets you get planted on 3 step drops. We'll see how much better the line will be.

maybe they will line him up in shotgun.. Hard to guage where the line will be this year, but I'm positively sure that it will be better than last year.. Might not be by much but it should and will be better.

Cause it couldn't get any worse Mastdark81... you can't go lower than rock bottom and I think you'd agree we were there last year

Exaggeration of 6 years. Point of it, without a line, he's toast after one

We draft Berry, McNabb gets clobbered and ends up on IR, and we have Grossman starting for 14 games b/c all the Campbell detractors wanted him gone. That's worse.

Dunno if I could hack a year of Grossman. He'd even make RayNAustin pine for the days of Campbell...

Everyone eventually gets clobbered. Heck, he'd get clobbered a few times even with a good line. It's a new offense, new recievers, new coaches. It will not all come together like magic. I'm talking about our offensive line. It will be better this year. This year we have a QB that can pull the trigger when he has to. We have veteran RB's that can produce, even if their shelf life is 1/3 of a season, we have 3 of them.

C'mon guys - this group is going to make sure that McNabb won't be in the same situation as Campbell - there also is no comparison in the amount of time it will take McNabb to get rid of the ball
we'll be fine and the offense will be much improved this season - this franchise needs to undergo a lot of changes but we are lot better off at the QB position than we were last season

If you're Andy Reid, you think that he was done playing at a starting caliber at age 33. Good line or not, this was a mistake. I would have rather we traded for Vick. At least he would have fit in with the "character" guys we've brought in recently: Haynesworth and Larry Johnson.

I thought my example was obvious enough, but let me dumb it down so there's no confusion.
When Mcnabb gets hit in a fashion that puts him on IR behind this offensive line that I feel is not going to be starting caliber as a whole. After McNabb is hit in this fashion that forces McNabb on to injured reserve, we are then reduced to Grossman starting for the washington redskins. In my opinion, Grossman is a downgrade to Campbell and we will be in a worse situation due to not addressing the offensive line in an adequate fashion.
Is that simple and blunt enough?

Last time I checked, the NFL season doesn't start until the fall...
How is it that everyone here seems to know what are starting offensive line is going to be?
We haven't had the draft?
There are potential trades that could happen.
There will be more releases and casualties due to the cap.
We have guys who played well last year that were young but got hurt.
There are a myriad of reasons to not want to slit your wrists over the offensive line. Let's just take a wait n see approach.

I agree with all of your points except for the third. With the uncapped year there is really no reason for teams to wait to cut players, so I think that there will be a lot less of these types of cuts happening this year than in most years.
