Schefter: Eagles Traded McNabb to Keep Bradford Out of DC

This is from Adam Schefter's Twitter:

NFL execs believe one reason Eagles traded McNabb to Redskins was so Washington could not acquire Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford.

Eagles did not want to see a Sam Bradford/Mike Shanahan union. By trading them McNabb, Redskins don't have ammo to trade up to No. 1 anymore

This is just the National media trying to make the Eagles look good. Because, recall they are the Gold Standard and sooo much smarter than everyone else.

Schefter is an idiot. That the Eagles traded their starting quarterback to another team to screw them up is just moronic. But that he'd do it to screw up the Redskins with our recent lack of prowess on the field is to the level of fall on the ground and laugh at the drooling idiot.

He's citing other GMs, not coming up with this on his own.

Yes, but he didn't say NFL GMs!

So, he talked to GMs that guessed that the Eagles guessed by giving the Skins McNabb they would no longer take a rookie QB that has had two major shoulder injuries!

Sounds like a lot of speculation there!

You mean one not so serious shoulder injury?

yea lets trade away one of our best players so that the redskins don't get an unproven rookie qb, who if selected, would perish behind their offensive line.

And, whom, oh by the way, don't have the number one pick, and who probably don't have the leverage to get it from St Louis, who show every inclination of taking Bradford...

To make this play, on such a flimsy possibility, is just voodoo Machiavelianism...

I made that up!

Shefter is an idiot for coming out with that. Someone is probably pulling his leg. That's literally the most retarded thing I have ever heard of.

If they really thought that he was still one of their best players would they be trading him away within the division?

Yes, I'm saying he made it up. Maybe he brought it up himself and they said "sure" so they didn't need to tell him he was a moron. Maybe he took it out of context, took a joke literally. When I said "who" obviously I meant who by name. No one of credibility would say such a stupid thing. Maybe he got an intern to say it. A "management" intern so he could call them an "NFL exec." Then again he said "execs" so I guess it was two interns. Ones who were wearing suits at the time.

An "NFL exec" could be the executive janitor or the head parking lot guy or the head of officials or the VP of PR, it doesn't nessecarily mean GM. And even if it was a GM, it is still just A GUESS as to why the Eagles traded McNabb to the Skins.

Heck if you belive Brian Baldinger (SP?) they might have done it to make the games with the Skins easier. THe EaGirls are the only NFC team the Skins didn't have a losing record to in the "Zorn era".

If he were their best player they wouldn't have been trading him anywhere. McNabb was headed out of Philly before training camps opened regardless if it was to Washington or not.

NFL execs believe one reason Eagles traded McNabb to Redskins was so Washington could not acquire Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford.

Rumors were out there that Shanny liked Bradford and might try to move up to get him. What they gave to the Eagles is about what it would have taken to get the Rams to swap no. 1 picks. Bradford could have sat for a year and learned, while Philly struggles with Kolb for one year, Washington will be without a young QB to build around.

I don't see why it's hard to believe that NFL execs believe this could be one of the reasons they traded him within the Div.

I believe that Andy Reid is betting on his knowledge of McNabb to neutralize him.

I believe that Andy Reid is probably wrong. McNabb is a quick learner, and a skilled quarterback who will fit immediately into Shanahan's schemes... which rely far more on play-action, and a strong running game than anything McNabb has done in the past. All that is required to complete the change is a modest improvement in the offensive line's play. The McNabb that will be seen in the next 3 years will not be the same McNabb that was in Philly. I believe that Reid will regret this move.

So if the Skins passed on McNabb and gave the #4 and their #2 to move up to the #1 spot then Bradford would have been starting by October after JC had his neck broken in the first two games! Our first chance to get an OT would have been in the 4th round. And that means Colt or Grossman would be starting by week 8-9 after Bradford re-injurs his shoulder when a DL taps him.

You all act like the OL was as bad at the start of the last season as it is right now! Our line is in right now is in FAR WORSE SHAPE than it was at the beginning of last year and worse than it was at any time last year.

Unles we draft a LT in the first, we might as well start Grossman or Colt, because McNabb will get killed behind this pathetic OL.

I guess we could always go out and sign False Start Adams and Levi Jones to play LT & RT, but my wigi board says that they wouldn't last the season and no QB would either, but at least we would have someone that we could line up at both OT spots. Right now we don't have anyone to start at LT or RT!

Awwwww yes, the always knowledgeable, all knowing un-named sources. I think you hit the nail on the head, he just made it up to meet a deadline. It would not be the first time.

While it is possible that some high level Exec said that, I'd say it was more of an "off the cuff" statement than a well thought out opinion.

It sounds like the kind of conjecture you come up with over drinks at a cocktail party but nothing you would take seriously. That's a HUGE reach to believe that the Redskins even stood a chance of getting Bradford, much less that it would be a motivating factor for Philly.

No way do the Redskins not have the ammo to pull off a trade for Bradford. So long as there is future number ones there is ammo. They could very easily trade this years number one, next years number one and two and that would be enough.

This rumor is just bogus.

The bottom line is this. The Eagles have always been a relatively cheap team. They simply did not want to pay Donovan anymore. Donovan was in his final year and the Eagles were looking to get some draft picks before seeing Donovan let go. What do people not understand about this?

Major reason why Mcnabb is in D.C. is because we offered them compensation. Believe me if we only offered a third round then Mcnabb would be in Oakland.

That anyone would trade their starting quarterback to keep another team from trading draft picks to draft a quarterback is a retarded idea, that's why. And that of their competitors we are the ones the Eagles are afraid of enough to make them do it to is even more retarded. Then again...the Eagles just need to trade 30 more starting quarterbacks to other teams to sabotage them and bam...Super Bowl baby!

Or maybe, could McNabb be by any chance Scottish? Do we have an unexploded Scotsman crisis looming? Somebody, call the bomb squad!!!!

Thank you. I'm still not certain how I feel about the McNabb trade but to act as if the Eagles did it to prevent the Redskins from drafting a player that they have no shot at drafting is spurious at best.

Exactly. Besides, McNabb is a Scottish name. Sending a Kamakazee Scotsman to every team to blow them up is a whole lot easier then trading them a quarterback to prevent them from drafting Bradford. It's a far more plausible theory. If the Eagles send a Scotsman to any other team besides us, then we've got them...
