Haynesworth / Hall Renegotiated deals

"Albert Haynesworth and DeAngelo Hall now have the option to void their contracts and become free agents in 2011 after renegotiating.

It's not going to happen, though. Per the arrangement, Haynesworth would have to return $16.8 million of his $21 million 2010 signing bonus if he wanted to hit the open market. Hall would have to pay back his $15 million bonus. Redskins GM Bruce Allen renegotiated the deals to take advantage of the lack of a salary cap this year."

Seems like a risk because of arbitration, but it's a risk that is VERY worth taking IMO. We accelerate their contracts and make the future cap hit very manageable. Allen also rid the contracts of any pro-ration because of the voidable clause. I like this man a lot.

Here's another article on it.

Great cause I have been told by some on this site that Allen is not a "true" GM becuase he was let go the the Raiders, et al.

As you can see, he knows how to manage contracts down, as opposed to Cerrato who renegotiated UP.

HAIL!!

Basically he took the $30 million he saved in base salaries by cutting 10 players on March 5th and gave it to last 2 free agents that Vinny over paid for two weeks later.

In doing this he is preparing for when a salary cap is put back in place. There will be no money needing to be prorated over future years.

Any GM in the league can spend as much as they want with no cap, The Redskins operate like they have NEVER had a salary cap. Allen is cleaning up the mess Vinny C left behind. He dropped some dead weight then freed up future dead cap space. Dead cap money generally took up 15- 25% of the cap space under Vinny. If both Hall and Haynesworth leave next year the only impact will be a additional $11+ million saved in 2011 base salaries.

As far as you being told the Raiders fired him as their GM proves he isn't a good GM, I can't respond to that until I fine some proof that he has at some point held the title of GM. The Raiders have had the same GM they've had since 1960s, by time Bruce Allen was even old enough to get the job, the current GM had a hold on it that only death will release. He's been in Oakland for almost half a century. Allen was a Senior Executive to Al Davis when he won the Exec. of the Year, which is normally awarded to a GM, but he's never been the GM in Oakland.

I stand corrected. However, the thrust of my post was not his actual title, but fact that his actions since joining the Skins are those of an executive that have not been seen in these parts since Casserley/Bethard.

Style and impression matter to me. And so far, Allen and Shannahan conduct themsevles as true FO leaders, and not simply as yes men to Snyder.

Hope this continues to be the case.

Making sure you knew that you'd have to be crazy like a horse to even think that Al Davis would would fire himself in Oakland.

I more or less responding to this:

He didn't have the title but in nine seasons with the Raiders the team won three AFC West Championships and a trip to Super Bowl XXXVII. He did have the title in Tampa Bay starting in 2004 and was fired after 4 years, but won the NFC South twice and went to the Super Bowl in 2007 after taken over a 7-9 team

That's because as a Redskins fan your owner has deprived you of that for a decade, wanting to keep the title to himself. As long as Vinny was around "the Danny" was being told he was on the right path, Cerato had Al Davis and that owner of ttiT as proof that it could be done. Jerry's name was enough to let Vinny do what rver he wanted to do. In the early days Vinny wasn't the ONLY 1 to have "the Danny's" ear, however that led to Marty getting a title that allowed him to fire Vinny. Once Cerato returned no one ever got that title again. Vinny wasn't worthy of it but Gibbs didn't get it either.

Gibbs like Marty deserved it... Zorn and Stevie needed one, but Vinny wasn't having it. Somewhere, somehow someone got to "the Danny" AND he listened (Vinny couldn't have been around for this one).

Vinny was fired and here we are

Vinny had style... I want results, and I'm taking a wait and see approach

I imagine most are taking a wait and see approach, but so far, it has been a breath of fresh air. You have to admit that.

I hope this mean Haynesworth and Hall are tradeable next year, as a result of a reduced cap hit. I have hopes that both of these guys will play at a level equal to their salaries this year, but if not, trading them would be a nice option to help get high motor, high work ethic type players in here to establish Shanahan's system.

Haynesworth earned his money last year. Carter and Orakpo BOTH had career years thanks to him.

I really don't think Haynesworth and Hall are the problems. This was a good move made by real football people to help ease some of the pain caused by overpaying these guys.

The article and discussion all contain the flagrant assumption future caps will be calculated like past caps. Given the rhetoric that the current system isn't working, I have a hard time thinking the other owners are just going to go for a lower cap number when the issue is whatever the cap number is will be ignored by the Danny's out there. Maybe this is low risk, I'm not saying it will be an issue. I'm just pointing out the assumption and I don't know that it's true. We'll see.

thanks 1niksder - good pick-up - I am not a Snyder fan and I'm cautiously optimistic that he's trying to let these guys do their thing, only time will tell

we have seen some encouraging things so far but this franchise has a lot to do - we are very lucky that we have this no cap year AND these 2 in charge to try and lead the franchise back onto the path to success

I'm sure that Snyder will be involved to a certain extent but I'm also hopeful that he will give these guys the support they need to make this transition back to respectability
