Toyota taking a BEATING....!!!

Post by tribeofjudah »

You all have heard about those sticky gas pedals. Many are real, genuine events.......that's for sure. BUT it's only feeding into the frenzy of ruthless people who want to deliberately make false claims:

1. to draw attention to themselves (cuz they're attention WHORES)
2. sue Toyota for big $$$
3. jump on the "bandwagon" with a lynch mob mentality

I don't know about you, but that guy going 90mph on the freeway in Cali was an idiot. He called 911 instead of shifting to neutral and cutting off the engine.

Yes, Toyota is clearly at fault for poor design of pedal mechanism or staying hush hush on the subject........but COME ON people, get a clue.

I actually think this was an isolated incident. The government took the opportunity to heavily publicize the incident in an effort to hurt the sales of the Japanese automaker. Propaganda to hurt a successful company from another country in an effort to boost sales for American companies. My condolences to the family who was lost in the accident.

However I still think this was preventable and I also think this could and has happened with other vehicles of other manufacturers. Why is the spotlight on this one incident?

Personally, I think the vast majority of claims are bogus crap.

Unfortunately, I have have an open claim regarding rust holes in the frame of my Tundra... which Toyota has conceded responsibility for... but is currently doing nothing about because of all this crap. My case has now been open for 4 months, and I have a truck that is undrivable, which I continue to make payments on. I am completely unable to get a response from Toyota regarding their commitment to do something about this.

What's the likelihood that I will ever buy a Toyota again?

My first car was a '93 Camry, never had any issues with it, my other cars after were Nissans. Back in '06 when I needed a new car I decided to make the switch to all American and bought a Dodge. I wish Toyota the best though, they employ plenty of Americans and I don't want anymore people losing jobs in this tough economy.

I also agree with you guys, I think a lot of people out there are trying scams on Toyota and it's just not right. If they caught doing it I hope there's some kind of ation that can be taken towards them.

I'd say it's politically motivated as well. The older I get, the more I don't like what I learn.

And LPJ, if you haven't researched it, you should look in to just how much your model and manuf are actually 'American made.' Some 'American cars' have more foreign money in them than the imports.

Vet, I did a search to see if I could find that info, do you by chance know of any auto sites I may be able to see? I'm actually really curious now that you metioned it. Plus I want to buy a pickup in a few years and I'd love to know for that as well.

Here's one article that I found that listed the top 10. If I come across a better article, I'll post it for ya.

Edit: This is a lot more comprehensive.

My wife's 98 Camry is made in Japan....says so inside the door panel. Strong car with no such problems.

They may be far superior to those (Toyotas) made this side of the Pacific..... just sayin'..........

Well for the record, I never had any issues with my charger.. great car, even though its the base model V6.. my ONLY gripe is with Dodge putting a dag gone 2.7 liter in it.. I mean sheesh, they couldn't just drop a 3.2 in there? At least that way when a SRT drives up to me with an 8, at least my 3.2 will entertain them.. for a about 2 seconds.

Honestly, I've never had any problems out of the 3 new cars I've had in my lifetime. My wife bought a Geo Metro LSi before we got married and really had no problems out of it. At 80k, it needed a tranny, but what do you expect from a 3 speed auto?

My '03 Altima I still have and the only problem I've had out of it is keeping the front end in allignment. Trivial really. After 7 years and 65k+, I'm putting struts in it and I've put brakes on it. Other than that, it's been services and tires.

My '08 Frontier had warped rotors (it sat on the lot for better part of a year, so after the dealership replaced 'em, no mo' problems.

I've had numerous other vehicles (toyotas, nissan, ford, chevy) over the years and really haven't had too many problems out of 'em.
