Just heard on the fan (sports junkies) that Weigman is going to come here to play RG. He's older but I think he comes in for a year to teach Reinhart the ropes.

Not yet but it was reported by someone on the Junkies. I don't know those guys but not a call in.

I believe it was Chris Russell who reported it. He is their Skins beat reporter for the station, 106.7 The Fan.

So we are looking at a 36 year old RG and if we sign Clifton a 33 LT. So the plan is to get older???

thats my worry right now.. weve already proven that an old line in unreliable and will break down.. as long as we still address the OL with the draft mainly our 1st 2 picks of the draft I'm ok with bringin in some vets...but only if thats the case

l could see us bringing him in for a 2-3 year deal for a young lineman to learn the zone blocking scheme under.

Depth and to allow the rookie OL's that we draft some time to develop.

He is too small to play OG in the NVC East. He is roughly the size of Mike Sellers.

Don't forget that we already signed Kory Lichtensteiger from the Broncos earlier in February. He is a young guard that was drafted by Shanahan. He could kick Rinehart out of here.

Wiegman will be like having an extra OL coach and player. He is a technician, he is very durable, very experienced. plus, in the zone blocking scheme, big slow lumbering OL are not always successful. Quick, agile and smart works better. I'm not saying you can pencil him in as the starting guard. But he is a good addition and will help this line learn the Shanahan's zone scheme.

I really hope these aren't signs that we are picking a qb with the four pick. I'm hoping it just means we still get okung and gives us the oppotunity to not have to draft another lineman in the second

Weigman, if he comes here, will come to beat Reinhart out. He doesn't care about Reinhart. Trust me.

Coaches coach players. They don't bring in other players to do their coaching for them; and older players, as a rule, are far more interested in causing younger players (their competition) to get cut than they are in helping them.

I guarantee you that Wiegman will not try in the least to be an extra coach, but if he does, the people he tries to teach will think he's crazy and/or punch him out. You guys have taken Bull Durham too seriously.

Of course coaches are going to coach but Vet. players also help those coaches. How many times did we hear about after OTA's JC and Santana Moss working with Kelly and Thomas on their routes and learning the playbook. A LOT!!!!

Daniels is a perfect example of a Veteran leader in the locker room. I think many times in the postgame show player's talked about veteran leadership and Daniels, Fletch and Carter were always referenced on the defensive side of the ball.

Well, you don't sign random older players to mentor, you sign specific ones. The ones who want to win and who love the game and helping others.

And it's not just about coaching, it's about setting an example. Younger players learning by what they do.

Also, a first round pick is likely a first year starter, especially a #4. A second round lineman starting year 1 game 1 is pretty dubious. After that they're typically not. Even with Rabach and Dockery, we need at least THREE starters and if the draft works out PERFECTLY we get MAYBE two. What's your plan for the other position? What if the second rounder actually isn't ready to actually start on opening day? How are you going to fix our line with ONLY draft picks given the reality of drafting linemen and that we don't even know if we get the ones we want?

Why would this need to be explained to anyone? Veteran players have a serious impact on the learning curve of the team. Add a whole new system and veteran players who are experts in that system become almost like coaches. Hell, where do you think coaches come from, a stork? McCardell and Samuels will go from playing to coaching in just a year. Do we need to explain how veteran players have a big influence in the locker room too?

Anyway, it appears we've jumped the gun on Wiegmann because I cant find any evidence he's even been offered anything by the Skins. Hope he comes here. Hicks, Wiegmann and Pashos would seriously improve the depth of this O-line. and depth is almost as important as talent through a 16-20 game season.
