what it means by a tender , I'm an overseas fan and for once i'm not just following the draft and season but also trying to learn a bit about the free agency process .
for eg i read
S Reed Doughty--Received second-round tender ($1.759 million)
DT Kedric Golston
--Received second-round tender ($1.759 million)
OT Stephon Heyer--Received second-round tender ($1.759 million)
LB Rocky McIntosh--Received second-round tender ($1.759 million)
what does this mean exactly

It essentially means that if another team wanted to sign say Reed Doughty the Redskins would have 7 days to match the offer or they would recieve the 2nd round pick of whoever signed him. If no one makes an offer Reed would earn $1.759 mm next year.

These guys would have been unrestricted free agents in 2010, but since it's an uncapped year [and the rules that were negotiated in case it was an uncapped year] they are effectively restricted free agents. So as cleg explains above, other teams can make them an offer, but we will get a draft pick in return.

It was a smart move by the Skins to place the high tenders on these players. Washington can still trade their rights and the compensation is still negotiable, but it does provide a fall back scenario in case they decide to spend their dough elsewhere.

Rocky's tender is only an original draft pick tender, which still means we would get a 2nd in return, but teams only need to offer him $1,176,000 to sign him away. Carlos Rogers also got an original pick tender, which means we would get a 1st rounder, and we had to offer 110% of his current base salary, which should be about $1.54 million.

And Rogers is pouting away about it today!

We also have the opportunity to not let them go - in essence, a team can show interest & then we really find out who really wants what & how much, from both sides
that is why some of these players are a little pissed - they were looking forward to being on the free market but now are "restricted free agents" instead

OMG, Heyer? I hope this is a strategic move and not an honest attempt to keep him.

I don't see how it could be unfortunately. Any team that matches that is an idiot.

Rogers does not understand what a truly useless football player he is.

I don't even like this guy as a backup. Worst player on the team IMO.

He certainly has a bad attitude. He was the second least targeted corner in the league last year, teams know he can cover. Unfortunately, him and Landry do dumb crap all the time. And he can't catch.

Totally agree. This already gives me reason to question the new regime.

We can still cut him...maybe it's a strategic move.

I have contended that CR22 has cost this team numerous games with his inability to hang on to the ball. At best he is a back-up. If I ran the team I would honestly just cut him.

Agreed. I'm still waiting for them to being in a strong personnel guy since neither Shanahan nor Allen excel in this role. I also ready in the post the other day that the team has made zero personnel in the scouting department. Pretty disconcerting.
